View this email in your browser The newly elected Chair is Frances Neil - read her blog on the website https://www.aqha.uk.com/about-aqha-uk/. This will be regularly updated with Council news and views. To reply or ask Frances a question please email info@aqha.uk.com The AGM on Saturday 25th March was very successful and Council would like to thank members that attended, as well as those that sent in forms and gave their support.

There were no new nominations to Council therefore the following members were re-elected; Frances Neil; Chair David Deptford, International Director Leigh Cheetham, Show and Events Director Sandra Loder, Youth Director Lucy Adams, Technical and Welfare Director Ruth O Reilly, Administration Director Two resolutions were passed: That all communication in future between Council and the membership can be done by email, unless members otherwise choose a postal option. This means that the Association can save huge costs in postage charges, especially regarding AGM documentation. The Journal will continue as a hard copy and is not affected by these rules. Please let the admin department know your current email address, we suggest that you do not use work emails but a personal email instead. Businesses often have high levels of security and can block mail with attachments, also people do change jobs and forget to let us know their new email address! The second resolution increases the council numbers to 9; Council are specifically looking to fill these posts with members who have expertise in PR and fundraising. If you have those skills and wish to apply please send an email to info@aqha.uk.com, or perhaps if you have some spare time to offer advice on these matters then please do get in touch, we really do need help with these issues. New Futurity rules were added which included restricting ridden classes to 4 year olds and over, and adding longe line classes for 2/3 year olds. More details can be found on the website. The accounts were prepared and delivered by the accountants, Willis Cooper, and we thank Nicola Cole for attending the meeting and her support to the Council. The Chairman s Report, the document presented at the AGM, is now on the website and the minutes will be published shortly. Please note the new address for the Association is: AQHA UK P O Box 10614 Sleaford NG34 4ET

AQHA International Rookie Award The AQHA Show season is just about to get under way with the first AQHA show being held at Oakridge Arena over the Easter Weekend in April. So it was thought to be a good time to remind competitors about the AQHA Rookie Award. Each year AQHA awards a stunning customised Montana Silversmiths Buckle to the Youth and Amateur competitor who win the most points in a calender year but they must not previously have won any points in Amateur or Youth AQHA Classes. Points can be won in Halter and Performance Classes Photos; AQHA International High Point Awards Photos below form 2016 are of Katie Willis (top) Youth Rookie Champion, and Anita Bokisch (below) Amateur Rookie Champion who both won an AQHA Rookie of the Year Buckle.

AQHA UK Squad - AQHA Youth World Cup 2018 We are very please to announce that the 13 youth riders who will be going forward for selection at the end of the year to represent the UK at the AQHA Youth World Cup 2018 in the USA are: Jolie C, Sara C, Maddie D, Gracie G, Natasha H, Mary K, Isobel L, Iain L, Jasmine M, Olivia P, Isobel S, Holly S and Katie W They will be attending training clinics and showing throughout the coming months aiming for a coveted place on the team which will be selected at the end of this year. We will be sending at least 5 team members who will compete against other the countries at the event which is to be held at Brian College Station, Texas. There are 5 other places available, a team reserve and 4 Leadership places, these riders get to take part in the pre show clinics and will provide much needed support to the team during the competition. The host country provides horses for the event. These are then graded and grouped by AQHA and each country will select a group, at random, from the pool. Only the youth riders are allowed to lunge and ride the horses and have 5 days in which to do so before the competition starts. No mean feat! The dates for the YWC have been announced and will be from the 28 June to 8 July 2018. The team will be training from March to June 2018. This is an exciting opportunity for them all and one which will see them develop not only their riding and horsemanship skills to a high level, but also their leadership and ability to work as part of a team.

It is interesting to note that 8 of our UK based trainers and clinicians have been youth riders at this event in the past. One now works in the USA and one from the last round is now working towards her UKCC training qualification. It is therefore an important event in terms of the education of our youth riders which influences their careers into the quarter horse industry in the UK. Many others who have taken part have gone on to become some of our well established amateur riders. We are looking for some major sponsorship and funding for this event. The Squad members themselves have been given a fundraising target and will also be aiming to raise their own funds to help with their individual costs. If anyone out there has any ideas or contacts and can help in any way possible please get in touch. sandraloder.aqhauk@gmail.com Information on how to make payments to the AQHA UK! Breed Show 2017 The 40th Anniversary Breed Show will be held at Bodiam International Arena 14th - 17th September. For information on the qualifying rules, classes and sponsorship packages please go to the website. Show team will be announced soon. GARDEN OF ENGLAND SHOWS 2017 There are a few changes to the Garden of England Shows this year. We have combined the Spring & Summer Shows so that we run 2 x Split Combined Shows at the late May Bank Holiday (May 26-30). This means for 4 sets of points you only

have to travel once and pay one lot of stabling & admin fees. We are also for the first time judging all the halter on the Sunday evening with all 4 judges, that should save 2 lots of primping and preening. As the show incorporates 2 x split combined AQHA Shows, this will also count as 2 separate qualifying shows for the AQHA.UK Championships. The show starts on Friday, running through to the Tuesday to take in the Bank Holiday Monday and going in to half term which should make travelling days easier. As well as 2 slates of NRHA & BR classes we are also offering WES and UKPHA classes. There will be 2 FEI events and we are pleased to see that there are more competitors wanting to work their way up the ranks to be eligible to qualify to represent Great Britain in the prestigious team events. At this year s events there will be riders competing for qualifying scores to compete at the Senior European and World Junior & Young Riders Championships in Switzerland this year. Competitors will also start wanting to bank their scores for qualifying for the World Equestrian Games in 2018. The International Show has moved from its regular July dates to mid August (August 16-20), due to European events moving their dates. We think this may well fill the long gap that has been created over the years with no shows for almost 2 months in the summer. This year is our 15 th Anniversary show, there will be complimentary T shirts to all along with various all around and special awards. This again is 2 x split combined and once more we are judging all the halter in one session. This is the only show in the year that Great Britain offers a full range of all NRHA trophies and plaques including the much sought after Lawson Trophies. For more information on the shows and to see schedules and entry forms please go to www.gardenofenglandcircuit.co.uk and look on the upcoming events page. Go to the AQHA website: https://www.aqha.com/landingpages/ebooks/guide-to-versatility-ranchhorse/ for a free guide on the Versatility Ranch Horse by subscribing to the Ranch Horse Journal. Although we cannot do the cutting and cow work classes in this country, this is a great guide to the classes that are available including how to do patterns, what the judges are looking for and advice on tack and clothing. Well worth downloading. AQHA have many ebooks available - have a look on their website.
