Wildcat Nation, Here s the Lawrence North athletics weekly update for the week of February 4, 2019: Lawrence North Athletics Community Partner of the Week: GEORGE S NEIGHBORHOOD GRILL George s Neighborhood Grill will host an LN Parent s Night on Monday, February 11 th at 6:30pm. This is an event to benefit the efforts of Sophie Treend to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Please see the flyer for the event here: George's Night Flyer

LN Student-Athletes of the Week Brooke Atkins, Swimming and Jacob Penrose, Swimming At the IHSAA sectional meet at North Central, Atkins, a senior placed 2 nd in the 200 IM and won the 100 backstroke to advance to the IHSAA State Finals this weekend. The Xavier commit also gets it done it the classroom, posting a 3.8 GPA. Penrose, also a senior, won the 100 butterfly and anchored the winning 400 free relay to help lead the Wildcats to a 95-85 win over North Central and secure an undefeated dual meet season. He has a 4.0 GPA and recently committed to Wabash. Great job, Brooke and Jacob!

Cheerleading: The LN cheerleaders were loud and proud this week, supporting both the boys and girls basketball teams this week. They really got the crowd going at Cathedral as the girls basketball team knocked off North Central! Reminder that the LN cheer clinic will be held on February 9 th from 9:00am 11:00am. Those participating in the clinic will perform with the varsity cheerleaders on Saturday, February 16 th at the home basketball game against Ft. Wayne South. Boys Basketball The Wildcats (11-6, 2-3 MIC) had a rough week, losing to #2 Carmel at home 67-60 and then lost on a last second shot to the Spartans of Connersville, 41-39. Tony Perkins led the team against Carmel with 21 points and 5 rebounds. Jared Hankins scored 15 against Connersville. The Wildcats will face MIC rival Ben Davis (12-6, 2-4 MIC) on the road Friday night.

Lawrence North Night with the Indiana Pacers This Thursday, February 7 th, the Indiana Pacers play the LA Clippers starting at 7:00pm. At halftime, the Pacers will be recognizing the two winningest active boys coaches, Jack Keefer of Lawrence North and J.R. Holmes of Bloomington South, along with the winningest girls coach, Donna Cheatham of Scottsburg. We don t have anything on the athletic calendar, so let s get a big group of LN fans and friends to go downtown on Thursday night! Girls Basketball: The #10 Wildcats (18-6) took down #7 North Central (19-7) in the IHSAA sectional semi-final on Saturday 59-51. Every Wildcat made key contributions throughout the game! Katie Davidson was on fire and led the team with 17 points, senior Maddie Howe was knocking down threes, Jayla Smith had key steals, blocks and knocked down an important 3 pointer right before the half. Kristian Young was the offensive engine, hitting key free throws and was driving and dishing all day, usually to Lauren Gunn who had a great game around the bucket on both ends of the court. Kalyn Ervin made key plays and Justis Odom was a force inside. The championship game is set for Monday night at Cathedral against Heritage Christian (18-6) starting at 6:00pm. Swimming & Diving: The boys swim team defeated North Central, 95-85, to finish off the regular season undefeated with an 8-0 dual meet record! First place finishers for the Wildcats were Joe Grese in the 200 and 500 freestyles, Brayden Laycoax in diving, Jacob Penrose in the 100 butterfly, Bennett Vail in the 100 breaststroke, the 200 free relay team of Jack Dempsey, Evan Sass, Grese, and Jasper Suiter and the 400 free relay team of Grese, Nick Hammersly, Vail, and Penrose. The team is preparing for the IHSAA sectional meet February 14 & 16 at LN, where they expect to contend for their first sectional championship since 2012. The girls swimming & diving team placed 3 rd out of 11 teams at the IHSAA sectional at North Central. Brooke Atkins led the team, placing 2 nd in the 200 IM and 1 st in the 100 backstroke, advancing to the IHSAA state finals this weekend! Also placing in the top 8 were Kristen Mouser, 6 th in the 100 breaststroke and 7 th in the 100 butterfly, Carol Ludington, 4 th in the 100 freestyle and 6 th in the 50 freestyle, Kelly Matsuoka, 8 th in the 200 freestyle, and Aariona Spencer, 3 rd in diving and advanced to the IHSAA regional diving meet on Tuesday in Brownsburg. The 200 medley relay team (Atkins, Mouser, Sophie Bradburn, Ludington) placed 4 th, the 200 free relay team (Lily Cord, Olivia Rubick, Sydney Willis, Matsuoka) placed 7 th, and the 400 free relay team (Ludington, Atkins, Bradburn, Mouser) placed 4 th.

Wrestling: Ten wrestlers competed at the IHSAA regional at Pendleton over the weekend: Logan Carrender, Anthony Hughes, Lamarr Britton, Jeremiah Henderson, Deacon Pettiford, Aidan Bunce, Ethan Butterfield, Chris Santos, Excell Brooks, and Deon Pettiford. Carrender took home the regional championship at 106 pounds and is headed to the IHSAA semi-state in New Castle. By placing in the top four, Hughes and Deacon Pettiford are also advancing to the semi-state. First round matches will start at 9:00am on Saturday at the New Castle Fieldhouse.
