CYTO Safe Preparation and Administration of Cytostatics
CYTO The CODAN Connect Z and Cyto-Ad Z systems have been specifically developed for reliable, safe preparation and administration of cytostatics. Connection of the injection port Connect Z Connect Z is used in the preparation of cytostatics with infusion bags in order to avoid the use of cannulae. At the same time, the preparation and transmission of the medications must be possible without leaks and contaminations. The CODAN Connect Z fulfils both demands. Liquid can be safely removed from the bag or added to it with a syringe and without a cannula via a Luer Lock connection with a special open/close mechanism. Automatic, simple, safe The specific Luer Lock connection of the injection port has been constructed in such a way that it is opened in both directions by the Luer cone of the syringe. Liquid can be removed, but also added. After the syringe has been removed, the connection is automatically and immediately closed. Connect Z is filled with the help of gravity. It is important that the bag is not pressed at this stage. The connection piece with the FlowStop protective cap is held at the same height as the injection port. As soon as the liquid reaches the FlowStop protective cap, the flow is automatically stopped. In this way, leaks are prevented and the risk of contamination minimized. After this, the hose clamp is closed tightly underneath the injection port, a Luer Lock syringe is connected on the side connection and filled with the required amount of carrier solution. By using the CODAN Chemoprotect Spike, the carrier solution is mixed with the medication and then put back into the infusion bag. To start with, two to three millilitres of air are added to the system after the medication. This ensures that the entire quantity of medication enters the bag. After the syringe has been removed, Connect Z is then ready to be connected to the Cyto-Ad Z. The Cyto-Ad Z is available with 1, 2 or 4 connections. This enables the combination of a variety of administrations of cytostatics to the patients.
The CODAN Chemoprotect Spike eliminates excess or underpressure in the medication bottles and effectively retains aerosols. The amount of medication required is taken off with 2-3 ml of air. After this, the medication is injected into the Connect Z together with the air. The clamp of the Connect Z system, which is arranged directly beneath the injection part, is still closed in this process. After this, the connection is closed again with the green stopper. The tubing of the Connect Z system is now primed with the basic solution, the medication is only in the bag and is secured there by the closed clamp. The Luer Lock negative connections have been provided with non-return valves for avoidance of leaks and retrograde infusions. CODAN Connect Z Clip The Connect Z Clip has been developed in order to ensure an absolutely safe connection between certain infusion bags and and the spike of the Connect Z system. The clip provides additional safety in the administration of cytostatics. The connection to the infusion bag is secured even in transport, unintentional manipulation of the system is also prevented. 1 2 3 Simple application: Connect and lock the Connect Z Clip. The Connect Z Clip ensures additional safety in the administration of cytostatics. Now, the secure connection to the Cyto-Ad Z can take place. Cyto-Ad Z Safety with a system The Cyto-Ad Z is the most important part of the closed CODAN system for safe and low-risk administration of cytostatics and other The drip chamber should always be filled with the basic solution up to 80%, in order to compensate for small quantities of air which can result from the connection of the Connect Z systems. The 15 µm liquid filter ensures particle-free infusion administration.
Cyto-Ad Z with 3 connected Connect Z systems medications. The Cyto-Ad Z has been equipped with a specific spike which contains a non-return valve in the venting part. In this way, the safe and secure application of the Cyto-Ad system with infusion bottles and bags is achieved. At the same time, the medication lines connected are protected against leaks and retrograde infusions. The large drip chamber with a 15 µm liquid filter absorbs residual quantities of air. The CODAN roller clamp controls the flow of the infusion to the patient. NO DEHP Tubings All CODAN Cyto Systems products were manufactured from DEHPfree PVC tubing (NO DEHP) for the administration of the various cytotoxic medication. The plasticizer used is TOTM. FlowStop protective cap The FlowStop protective cap on the connection piece guarantees priming of the Cyto-Ad Z systems free of leaks and contaminations. This "critical" procedure can thus be carried out particularly safely and simply. The vented spike of the Cyto-Ad Z system permits connection of the set to bottles and bags by the integrated non-return valve. As the drip chamber is filled upside down at an angle of 45, the upper system is optimally primed. When the drip chamber is 80% full, the roller clamp can be closed and the drip chamber returned to the normal position. After this, the remaining system is primed. The liquid throughflow is automatically stopped when the FlowStop protective cap has been reached. The Cyto-Ad Z has been fitted with a Luer-Lock connection with rotating collar for a safe connection to the catheter which is also gentle on the patients. The FlowStop protective cap developed by CODAN enables safe priming of the system without leaks. The hydrophobic filter allows the air to escape and retains the liquid. Priming the Cyto-Ad Z Administering the cytostatics The Connect Z systems are connected directly to the Cyto-Ad Z. In order to avoid incompatibilities, only one medication should be administered at a time. Between each administration of medications, the system must be rinsed with the basic solution. After the medications have been applied, the system is disposed of without the emptied Connect Z systems being removed.
Variations Dedicated pumps specific IVIP systems CODAN provides a variety of combinable systems, specifically put together and aligned to the application in question. These IVIP systems guarantee a safe and reliable administration of cytostatics at any time, even with specific pumps. In addition, individual configuration of the devices, e.g. by special conveying and retention segments, silicon segments and hoses, is possible. Cyto-Ad Z Inline The Cyto-Ad Z Inline with 1, 2 or 4 connections is used in infusion The CODAN IVIP systems, developed to administer cytostatics with specific pump systems. devices with specific pump segments. The benefits of the Luer-Lock connections with integrated non-return valves allow also for applications in which the medications are to be put through an infusion pump. The vented spike with non-return valve also permits use of bottles or bags. At the end of the set, there is an inline spike adapter for connection of a dedicated pump set, an I.V. Micro filter set or others. Cyto Systems Specialities Amongst the Cyto Systems products used for regular IV administration of cytotoxics, various other product specialities are available: Infusion set equipped with 0.20 micron filter designed for the administration of TAXOL Opaque administration sets used for light-sensitive cytotoxic medication Cyto Bolus Adapter Sets bi- and trifurcated sets for bolus application of cytotoxics 4-Valve Multiflow Set manifold system for the intrathecal administration of cytotoxics Urology Adater Sets specific configuration for urological administration of cytotoxics Das Cyto-Ad Z Inline ist für die pumpengesteuerte Verabreichung von Zytostatika konzipiert worden.
