Tht seson ws the most successful s we finished legue runners-up, reched the qurter-finls of the FA Cup, where we lost to Blckburn Rovers (0-7). When the Allince merged with the Footbll Legue in 1892, Bootle becme founder members of the new Second Division. However, despite respectble 8th plce finl position, the club dropped out fter one seson (nd were replced by neighbours Liverpool) nd seemingly disppered due to finncil problems. Footbll returned to Hwthorne Rod when new club, Bootle Athletic. ws lter formed with the new tem initilly plying in the Liverpool Legues. In 1948 when the club were elected to the Lncshire Combintion 2, which ws won t the first ttempt. However, Bootle struggled in the top-flight nd fter severl tough sesons withdrew nd folded during the 1953 54 cmpign. In 1953, the current club ws formed s Lngton nd plyed in the locl legues. After very successful spell in the Liverpool County Combintion (which we won on numerous occsions) the club reverted bck to it s It s better known identity of Bootle F.C. in 1973; nd yer lter joined the Lncshire Combintion, which we won in 1976 nd 1977. Bootle then joined the Second Division of the Cheshire County Legue, which ws won in our first seson, nd we were promoted to the First Division. In 1982 the Cheshire County Legue ws one of the legues tht merged to form the North West Counties Legue, which Bootle duly joined, becoming member of the First Division. The club spent most of their time in the First Division until 2000 when we unfortuntely dropped into the Second Division. However, despite finishing 6th in 2002, the club dropped into the Liverpool County Combintion. In 2006 the club, with new ground, were elected bck into Division 2 of the North West Counties Legue. In 2009 Bootle won promotion to the NWCL Premier Division nd lso won the Chmpionship. In 2009/10, our first seson bck in the NWCFL Premier Division Bootle finished NWCFL highest plcing of 3rd. Tom s bility is never questioned, we just need him to work hrder for the tem nd be more consistent. It ws lso gret to see Bret get his 1st gol for the club, on his first tem debut. He is very promising plyer who needs minutes under his belt to build his shrpness up. Results hve continued to go for us when we hven't been plying nd we hve to forget bout the gmes in hnd tht we hve nd just tke ech gme s it comes. Directly North cross the Mersey is the town of Widnes; while 8 miles to the Northest is Wrrington; nd downstrem 16 miles to the West is the City of Liverpool. Runcorn Linnets Footbll Club ws born on 28 April 2006, when the fns of Runcorn Footbll Club, dismyed t the club s predicment, met t their spiritul home t the Quyside in Cnl Street in Runcorn nd voted to estblish new club which would continue the proud trdition of non-legue footbll which hd existed in the town since 1918. A lrge group of fns formed n interim committee to set the wheels in motion. A Supporters Trust lredy existed nd this ws the vehicle through which the new club would be run. At this erly stge, the club existed in nme only, nd the choice of the nme Runcorn Linnets ws symbolic in representing where the fns hd come from nd in keeping thise ties with our pst, whilst t the sme time RUNCORN LINNETS recognising tht new club needed to be built to reestblish confidence in the locl community. Mtch Review Bootle 2 Silsden 1 22nd September 2012 Attendnce: 124 The Bucks were out of the trps quickly nd dominted the erly exchnges s the visitors tried to get to grips with the gme. For ll the net possession however there ws not relly chnce to note until Tom Foley whipped in dngerous cross from the left tht found Lee Thompson, however the Silsden golkeeper Ed Hll sved well with his legs. This sprked Silsden into their first ttck nd long punt up field found Ryn who shot stright t Den who sved well however the bll broke loose for Tom Mrshll to score. The Bucks stepped up ger now nd wve fter wve of ttcks were thrown t Silsden who were trying in vin to keep the home side out. Tom Foley nd Dniel constnt threts nd with Lee Thompson nd Jk Gry rriving lte in the box it ws just mtter of time before they would get there equlizer. Foley gin broke down the left nd plyed bll into, but the keeper ws equl to his powerful drive. On 17 minutes bll forwrd set wy nd he burst through the wy defence. The Keeper ws quick out to close the tlismn down but chipped the bll over Hll but gonizingly, his shot hit the top of the br nd down before being fired over by Hy. Minutes lter the bll fell gin to who smshed drive through the crowded re only for the keeper gin to be equl to it. It ws ll Bootle t this point. Lee Thompson gin mde himself some room outside the penlty re nd drove crcking effort just over the br, lthough mybe through bll to Foley would hve been the better option. The equlizer ws much similr nd it finlly cme on 22 minutes, Lee Thompson crrying the bll forwrd before unleshing superb drive from 35 yrds tht crshed ginst the Silsden br before re-bounding this time to to hed in from 6 yrds out. It ws just wht Bootle deserved fter the chnces creted but they were nerly behind gin on the hlf when McEneney crossed from wide nd Ryn s towering heder struck the br. Second hlf strted with something of contrst of the first with the visitors using the bll well nd only for some resolute defending, especilly from the impressive Mrk to vert the dnger. The only forys upfield cme from the centre of midfield now with Jmie Hy, Lim Blkemn nd Lee Thompson looking dngerous when they hd the bll, s Silsden looked to hve nullified the thret on the wing from Gry nd Foley. Brett Admson cme on for his Bootle debut nd his pce gve bit more for the Silsden defence to think bout. A gret bll out wide by Hy finding the young winger who crossed first time but never bet the first mn. He ws soon bout to mke n impct though with 14 minutes to go. A gret run down the left gin from Foley forced corner nd s the resultnt corner ws whipped in Brett Admson ws in the right plce to score his first Bootle gol. Bootle sw out the gme in professionl mnner s Silsden for ll their good ply could not brek down the strong Bucks defence second time. 18 In their first seson in 2006/07 they finished second to Winsford on gol difference. Linnets supporters, s lwys, turned out in numbers to support the tem. Seson 2007/08 hd success in the Cheshire Senior Cup, beting Unibond 1 side Wrrington Town on their own ground nd nrrowly losing to Altrinchm. At the beginning of 2008, the club decided to prt with its mngement tem by mutul consent nd we ppointed Steve Wilkes s mnger, with golkeeper Robbie Holcroft s his ssistnt. Steve used the second hlf of tht seson to look t plyers old nd new. Overll seson 2007/08 will be seen s one of consolidtion in higher legue, with better stndrd of footbll. In the FA Vse, Linnets hd good run up to the Third Round Proper. They then cme up ginst Vse holders, AFC Fylde, losing 4-1 fter very tight first hlf. Good wins t Alsger nd t home to AFC Fylde in the Vodkt Cup put The Linnets into the semi- finls ginst Silsden. A defet in the home leg ws followed up with fighting performnce t Cougr Prk, which sw The Linnets through to the finl t Tmeside Stdium ginst very strong New Mills side, where ending s runners-up by 2 0. Seson 2010/11 ws the first bck in Runcorn nd sw The Linnets prt compny with the mngement tem of Steve Wilkes nd In McGrry towrds the end of August 2010 nd former Linnet Pul McNlly ws ppointed s the new mnger bringing in former Atherton LR mnger, Dve Hughes, s his ssistnt nd Chris Fitzsimmons s coch. A rebuilding process took plce during the seson nd the Linnets finished the seson strongly. The most encourging feture of seson 2010/11 ws the tremendous support the Linnets received from their fns. The verge ttendnce t the Millbnk Linnets Stdium ws 106% up on the previous seson nd lmost 50% higher thn the next best supported tem. A number of new signings hve been dded to the squd tht finished lst seson strongly. In 2011/12 the club chieved its highest ever finish in the NWCL when we cme fifth. A gret strt to the seson in the legue ws interspersed with cup success, but this brought lrge number of replys nd no legue gmes were plyed during September. The highlight of the cup runs ws the 4-0 defet of Evostick North opponents Mossley fter 0-0 drw t Sel Prk. They finlly exited the FA Vse up in the North Est t Hebburn. Perhps the most memorble gme of the seson cme t Stone with n 8-5 victory nd 3 ht tricks in the gme. During the seson 7 plyer nd mnger wrds cme the wy of The Linnets, but despite best efforts ended the seson in fifth plce, lthough victory over ner neighbours Runcorn Town on Ester Mondy ws to hve gret bering on the finl outcome of the title s well s providing the legue s biggest gte of the seson. 11

Drk clouds hung over the loction bringing with them constnt drizzle of rin. Around 2,000 Everton fns, of the diehrd vriety, hd mde the trip down from Liverpool nd they were conspicuous mongst the smll crowd, round 10,000 in number, who clustered to-gther under wht shelter they could find mking the fmous ground, with its vst bnks of empty terrcing, look nything but inviting. (The officil ttendnce ws lter returned s 16,000) Hull City took the led, through Guyn, fter seven minutes but Everton were level t the brek thnks to cleverly looped gol from Dixie Den. They then confined they opponents to their own hlf of the field for fully thirty minutes before the Yorkshire men, reestblished their led with brekwy gol from Whitworth. The Hull forwrd, during the process, collided with Dvies in the Everton gol nd both plyers were injured. Everton then strived for n equlising gol but were thwrted by some excellent defending by their opponents. In the dying seconds of the gme they won corner. The well-directed kick ws tken by Alex Troup nd Arthur Dominy ws on hnd to hed Everton level just moments before the whistle ws sounded. With the score now stnding t 2-2, the gme, for second time, went in to extr time. Both sides then hd their chnces to score before Mrtin got the gol tht, eventully, settled the tie in fvour Hull City. He did however, burst the bll but this fct ws not discovered until it ws retrieved from the net. It is thought tht stud on boot of George Mrtin hd done the dmge so, ccording to the rules the bll ws ded when it entered the gol. Nevertheless Everton refused to ppel ginst the incident nd Hull City, by 3 gols to 2, went on into round five. The clss performnce given by George Mrtin hd clerly impressed the Everton executive who gined his signture the following seson. Born in Glsgow he hd begun his footbll creer in Hmilton Acdemicls before moving south to join Hull City. He ws signed to strengthen the Everton side when their push for the 1928 chmpionship ws beginning to flter. He plyed on 10 occsions nd ws wrded with chmpion s medl s Everton went on to win the title nd ws on the field when Dixie Den scored his record breking sixtieth gol ginst Arsenl t Goodison Prk. He went on the ply 85 gmes for Everton scoring 31 gols in the process. He lter signed for Middlesborough before ending his plying creer with Luton Town. The mjority of the crowd, who numbered 22,000, now sensed n upset s Everton struggled to overcome the offside tctics tht were implemented by their opponents. Dixie Den, it ws reported, worked in desperte groove. The bll did not come to him nicely, but he certinly hd so big bodygurd tht the other forwrds should hve hd hppy dy. However, Everton stuck gmely to their tsk nd drew level, fter 75 minutes, when they were wrded corner.
