history BRENTWOOD TOWN LADIES FC www.brentwoodtownladiesfc.co.uk The Society of Old Brentwoods Ashwells Road BRENTWOOD CM15 9SE affiliated to the Essex County Football Association members of the Eastern Region Women s Football League secretary Ian Bent (0787 575 251) (ian.bent@essexfa.com) chairman David Worsfold (01277 221 5) (david.worsfold@zen.co.uk) treasurer John Lovell (07785 571 22) (johnhlovell@o2.co.uk) press & publicity Robert Craven (0755 6 872) (robertcraven@hotmail.com) first team manager Ian Bent assistant managers Lucy Faraday & David Worsfold club captain Carla Rose honours ERWFL Division One South Runners-Up 2009/10 ERWFL Plate Competition Winners 2007/8 2 www.brentwoodtownladiesfc.co.uk Brentwood Town Ladies FC was formed in 1999 following the merger of Brentwood Ursuline FC and Brentwood Girls FC. The Ursuline Convent High School had been running teams in the town since 1991 and by 1998/9 had entered three teams into the Essex County Girls League whilst Brentwood Boys had also launched a girls team in 1997. By the spring of 1999, Brentwood Ursuline had decided that the school could no longer support football's rapid growth and the decision was taken to form an independent club which also took on board the girls' team from Brentwood Boys for the best interests of female football in the area. The focus has now moved to a successful Ladies side, who compete in the Eastern Region Women's Football League (ERWFL) having claimed successive promotions from the Essex County Women's League in 200 and 200. Having finished fifth in their first season, 2005/6 saw Brentwood reach the play-off finals as they pushed for promotion from Division One East. Town could not quite reach the top tier, and subsequent seasons saw the club narrowly miss out again having been placed fourth in 2007 and then third in consecutive campaigns within the newly-realigned Division One South. There was some success in 2008 as the Ladies won their first major trophy, scooping the ERWFL Plate Competition courtesy of a -1 victory over Kings Sports, as well as consecutive runs to the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Women s Cup. After the departure of coach Kevin Anderson at the end of the 2008/9 campaign, 2009/10 dawned with a new management team in place, headed by Ian Bent. Ably assisted by David Worsfold and Lucy Faraday in his backroom team, Bent tasted success at the end of his first term in charge as Blues finally claimed that elusive promotion spot, completing the campaign as runners-up to Arlesey Town. 2010/11 now sees the Club competing in the ERWFL Premier Division for the first time in their history. btlfc Back row (l-r): Jess Tuffen, Danielle Butler, Emma Hooker, Kelly Walker, Sarah Murphy, Dominique Hume, Izzy Vian, Leah Cowan, Bryony Lynch, Sophie Lovell, Ian Bent (manager) Front row (l-r): Nicole Manning (vice-captain), Nikita Whinnett, Carla Rose (captain), Lucy Faraday (assistant manager), Keeley Walker, Nikki Allen Not shown: Georgia Allen, Toni Brown, Kerri Thomas, Stacey Turner, David Worsfold (assistant manager)

We hope that the visiting players, coaches and supporters enjoy their trip across Essex today. Today s game sees these two teams go up against each other for the third time this season and, after the previous two encounters, I m expecting another close game here this afternoon. The reverse league fixture was all the way back in September and an extremely good defensive display saw us come away from Barking with three points and gave everyone in the squad a real confidence that they could perform well in this league, and credit to the players who simply haven t looked back since that day. Our second meeting was just as close with a victory on penalties ultimately earning us a place in the Semi-Finals of the League Cup. I was particularly pleased that day with the spirit shown after conceding a late equaliser in that game. Other teams may have folded at that point, but this team pulled themselves together and regained control of the match and probably should welcome have won it in extra time. This squad has a terrific team spirit and the way they deal with anything that comes their way is a great testament to them and the personalities within it. We come into today s game in good form after a very impressive performance against Woodbridge Town here last week. After a slow start we controlled the game and deserved the three points and a wide margin of victory. It is important that we build on that today with another committed performance as we look to continue to apply pressure to all the teams in the league as we enter the final months of the season. With many games still to be played we will continue to focus on each match as it comes and strive to collect as many points as we can and then look at where that leaves us come May. Enjoy the match! match report Brentwood Town 6 (Cowan 18, 89, Rose 6, 77, Lovell 61pen, Whinnett 81) Woodbridge Town 1 (Warnes 90+1) Eastern Region Women s Football League Premier Division @ the Society of Old Brentwoods on Sun 06 Mar 2011 Town: Izzy Vian (Dominique Hume 81), Nikki Allen, Jess Tuffen, Kelly Walker, Nicole Manning (Georgia Allen 59), Sophie Lovell, Nikita Whinnett, Lucy Faraday, Danielle Butler, Carla Rose (Toni Brown 78), Leah Cowan. Substitute not used: Sarah Murphy. Brentwood Town moved up to fifth in the Eastern Region Women s Football League Premier Division after defeating Woodbridge Town 6-1 at the Society of Old Brentwoods. Leah Cowan and Carla Rose contributed a brace apiece, whilst second half strikes from Sophie Lovell and Nikita Whinnett completed the scoring against a hardworking Woodbridge side that had frustrated Blues in the opening stages. Today was an excellent all-round performance and a great three points to keep up the pressure on the teams above us in the League, said manager Ian Bent after the match. I m now looking for us to maintain the momentum we have picked up from today and keep applying that pressure on all the teams in the Premier Division. Izzy Vian made an excellent early save from Michelle Allum, but Brentwood took the lead in the 18th minute as Rose picked out Lucy Faraday in space thirty yards from goal. She quickly moved the ball on to Cowan down the inside-left channel, and the former Arsenal and West Ham United player cut onto her favoured right foot before curling delightfully into the top www.brentwoodtownladiesfc.co.uk right-hand corner. Nine minutes before half-time, Brentwood edged two goals clear. Jess Tuffen drove through the midfield before offloading to Cowan. She passed inside to Whinnett, whose flicked pass found its intended recipient in Rose. The club captain rounded Lunn and stroked the ball gleefully into an empty net. Whereas Blues had let a two-goal advantage slip at Notcutts Park, Lovell made sure that this would not happen by converting a 61st-minute penalty after Rose had been brought down by Lunn to make it -0. At the other end, Kristie Turner fired against the right-hand upright to keep Woodbridge interested in the game, but they were further inconvenienced after 76 minutes when Rose grabbed her second of the afternoon. Vian sent another long goal-kick forwards, and the ball glanced a defender s head before falling to Rose, who arrowed her shot into the bottom left-hand corner. Four minutes later, Brentwood made it 5-0 as Toni Brown s first contribution after being brought on was to send a perfectly-weighted pass into the path of Whinnett. Town s top scorer made no mistake, guiding her 21st goal of the season underneath Lunn. With just a minute of the regulation ninety remaining, Cowan added her second and the team s sixth as Kelly Walker slipped Whinnett clear on the left. She drifted inside before sliding the ball across the penalty area to her team-mate, who saw her shot fumbled over the line. To their credit, Woodbridge continued to fight, and they earned their reward in stoppage time as Justine Peacock crossed to the near post and Warnes nodded past substitute shotstopper Dominique Hume. sponsorship opportunities How would you like the opportunity to be a part of a progressive female football club? Brentwood Town Ladies FC won promotion to the fourth tier of the women s football in England last season, and have already recorded positive results against the likes of Barking, Chelmsford City and Peterborough during 2010/11. The club continue to receive a lot of exposure in local media outlets including the Brentwood Gazette and Brentwood Weekly News, plus female football websites such as SheKicks.net and WomensSoccerScene.co.uk. Barking have been a part of the Eastern Region Women s Football League Premier Division since the 2005/6 season, following relegation from the South East Women s Combination. The Blues finished in fourth place, points adrift of champions Norwich Canaries, but the next season was to be much more testing. Barking finished second from bottom, staving off relegation into Division One by defeating Chelmsford City -2 in a play-off. 2007/8 saw an improvement, with the club completing the campaign ninth in the League, although they did enjoy more success in the ERWFL Cup. They beat Ipswich Wanderers, Stevenage Borough and League champions Norwich City, but were eventually undone by Hethersett Athletic, who claimed the first of three successive League Cup titles. Barking came ninth again in 2008/9 before enjoying a much better season last term, claiming third spot in the Premier Division table. Indeed, they were in with an outside chance of a return to the third tier of women s football until Braintree Town put in a late spurt to win the championship. The metropolitan Essex outfit have carried their momentum into 2010/11, and they currently sit three points above Brentwood in third spot having won ten of their seventeen League fixtures to date. Knockout competitions have not been kind to Barking as they slipped out of The FA Women s Cup, the Essex Women s Cup and the ERWFL Cup, all penalties to Chelmsford, Billericay Town and Brentwood respectively. www.brentwoodtownladiesfc.co.uk 7
