PWHS CHARACTER COUNTS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Taylor Snider Congratulations to Taylor Snider for being named this week s Character Counts Athlete of the Week. Taylor Snider, a sophomore forward on the Ice Hawks varsity hockey team, has been a big contributor both on and off the ice this season. On the ice, Taylor leads the team in scoring with 23 goals and 19 assists through 17 games this season for a total of 42 points. This also currently leads all players in the North Shore Conference. Just as impressive, however, has been Taylor's contributions off the ice. Despite being an underclassman, his teammates selected him as an assistant captain at the end of last season and he has taken well to the role. He leads by example, always working hard and pushing his teammates to do the same. Congratulations Taylor! 3 P age

Boys Varsity Basketball by Brian Hebein January 16, 2015 vs Germantown Pirates: 76 Germantown: 92 Friday night the Pirates traveled to Germantown to take on the #2 ranked team in the state for division 1. With a share of first place in the NSC on the line the Pirates were amped up for the challenge of the undefeated Warhawks. The first quarter wouldn't start out in the Pirates favor as they fell into an early deficit of 13-1 but, showing some mettle and working through foul trouble the Pirates were able to close the quarter out down 22-12. The start of the second quarter would see the Warhawks extend their lead to as many as 16 points but the Pirates wouldn't back down and kept answering the bell to hang in at the half down by a score of 46-33. The frantic pace would continue for the start of the second half as both teams were scoring in transition and keeping the referee's on their toes with the fast paced play. The Pirates would at one point trim the Germantown lead down to 6 points in the third quarter with a chance to cut it to 3 points. A missed three pointer would lead to an open run out for Germantown and the quarter would end with a score of 69-55. The fourth quarter didn't disappoint as far as the game action was concerned. The Pirates would go down by 18 but a couple of times cut the lead back Boys Varsity Basketball Cont d down to 10 points. In the end we just couldn't get over the hump and ended up falling on the road 92-76. It was a well played game and the Pirates did many good things like hitting 13 three pointers in the game and scoring the most points on Germantown to this point in the season. The Pirates were led in scoring by Tay Jackson with 18, Matt Kirmse with 17, Patrick McDonald with 15, Ezra Bretl with 9, Brad Burbach and Ben Larson each chipped in 6 points. Blake Plier rounded out the scoring with 5 points. Boys Varsity Hockey by Ryan Donovan January 23, 2015 vs Beaver Dam Ice Hawks: 2 Beaver Dam: 3 The Ice Hawks were unable to overcome the Beaver Dam Golden Beavers in a 3-2 loss on Friday night. The game was a cagey affair, with both teams struggling to carve out chances or dictate the pace of play. The first Beaver Dam goal came off of an in-zone turnover 11 minutes into the game. Then, some indiscipline in the form of penalties put the Ice Hawks on the defensive. Despite a fine solo effort by Taylor Snider (Port Washington) to score a shorthanded goal just 40 seconds into the second period, Beaver Dam was still able to score with the remaining time on the same penalty to go up 2-1. Then, a major penalty called on the Ice Hawks allowed Beaver Dam the time necessary to bury a third goal. From there, the teams battled hard. The Ice Hawks dominated the third period, outshooting the Golden Beavers 12-2, but had to wait until the last minute of play to get a second goal - this one via the power play. Jeff Wade (Grafton) finished off a move that went through Bryce Fisk (Grafton) and Snider, eventually bouncing the puck in off the back of the Beavers goalie. A tense final 20 seconds ensued, but the Ice Hawks eventually fell to the Golden Beavers 3-2. Goalie Izac Hickcox (Grafton) stopped 23 of 26 shots in the loss. sheet: http://www.wisconsinpre phockey.net/game/show/8315691?su bseason=179645&referrer=1354601 Boys Varsity Hockey Cont d January 24, 2015 vs De Forest Ice Hawks: 3 De Forest: 1 After a close loss the previous night, the Ice Hawks rebounded with a strong effort to secure a 3-1 win over the DeForest Norskies. A quick turnaround saw the Ice Hawks hit the ice for the second time in under 24 hours to host visiting DeForest. While both teams worked hard, the flow of the first period was cut by a number of penalties. Despite spending significant time a man down, the Ice Hawks continued their strong play on the penalty kill, shutting down the DeForest breakout and clearing out any chances. With just over a minute left in the first, the Ice Hawks took a 1-0 lead through a great solo effort by Taylor Snider (Port Washington), who scored his second shorthanded goal in as many nights to help the Ice Hawks take the advantage into the break. The second period again saw the Ice Hawks find some penalty trouble, but this time it didn't stop the attack from finding the back of the net. Just under four minutes in, Nate Perez (Grafton) scored unassisted to increase the lead to 2. After a quick DeForest penalty, the advantage was increased to 3 as Jeff Wade (Grafton) finished off a feed from Snider. While the Norskies were able to disrupt the shutout with a goal just 11 seconds into the third period, the Ice Hawks held strong the rest of the way to earn their 10th victory of the season - the first time the team has hit double digit wins since 2010-2011. Goalie Izac Hickcox (Grafton) stopped 37 of 38 shots to earn the win. sheet: http://www.wisconsinpre phockey.net/game/show/8134894?su bseason=179645&referrer=1354601 5 P age
