The Official Publication of the Kiawah Island Community Association March 2019 D I G E S T BOARD OF DIRECTORS Board of Directors Puts Forth Draft Conveyance Policy Owning and maintaining infrastructure is one of KICA s primary responsibilities. In keeping with the spirit of those responsibilities, the KICA Board of Directors put forth a draft conveyance policy in late February 2019 for community input. The policy will be reviewed at the board s March 4 meeting. has not accepted any conveyance since 2015, when the master developer s right to unilaterally convey property to the association expired. The policy includes specifics on how the process works for both infrastructure and landscaping, including the timeline for inspections and the appeals process. Landscaping conveyances, which require the immediate commitment of resources, may require a delay in order for these to be included in the association s budget. The conveyance policy does not apply to the property referred to as Captain Sam s Spit, as the developer will not attempt to transfer common property in that neighborhood to KICA. This policy is meant to ensure that infrastructure or landscaping conveyed to the association is at a standard consistent with the overall quality on the island. The conveyance policy sets forth the manner in which KICA accepts or rejects common property conveyance requests from a developer or other island entity. Voting ends March 8 at 5 p.m. Make sure that quorum is met by casting your vote today. If quorum is not met, a second election will be held, at association expense, with a lower quorum threshold. Candidates David DeStefano, Brendan Magee and David Morley are running for the two board seats. David DeStefano and David Morley have been recommended by the Nominating Committee based on their community knowledge and service, skills and expertise. In your 2019 election ballot, you are asked to assign your proxy to the board secretary in order for your vote to be counted towards quorum. Since so many of our members live part-time on Kiawah and are unable to attend the annual meeting in person, assigning the proxy allows for quorum to be met without member attendance. david DeStefano KICA must have 51% of the membership assign proxy in order to meet quorum and certify the vote for directors.
