PITTSBURGH PENGUINS ROOKIE TOURNAMENT TEAM NOTES BEHIND THE BENCH Wilkes-Barre/Scranton head coach John Hynes, along with his assistant, Alain Nasreddine, will be behind the bench for the Penguins this weekend. Hynes, 38, is in his fourth season as head coach of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League. Over the past three seasons, Hynes has led WBS to a 144-76-4-8 overall record, three Calder Cup playoff berths, three 40-win seasons and the 2011 AHL regular-season championship while being named the 2011 AHL Coach of the Year. Hynes, recorded his 100th win on April 6, 2013 versus Hershey, doing so in just 152 games, becoming the fastest in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton history to accomplish this feat and second-fastest ever in the AHL. Hynes led the Penguins to one of the most dramatic comebacks in AHL history during the 2013 playoffs. Trailing 3-0 in the series to the Providence Bruins, WBS ran off four-straight victories to win the series in seven games and advance to the East Final. The Penguins became just the third team in AHL history to overcome a 3-0 deficit and win a series. During the 12-13 regular season, Hynes squad allowed the fewest goals (178) in the AHL - the second time the team has done so in his three years behind the bench. The Warwick, Rhode Island native first debuted as WBS head coach in 2010-11, where he guided WBS to an impressive 58-21-0-1 record, earning the franchise its first-ever Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy as the AHL regular-season champions. Hynes joined the Penguins organization prior to the 2009-10 season, serving as an assistant coach his first year in WBS under current Penguins assistant coach Todd Reirden. Prior to joining WBS, Hynes spent six seasons as a head coach with USA Hockey s National Team Development Program, posting an overall record of 216-113-19-9. Internationally, he led the U.S. Under- 18 National Team to three medals at the World Under-18 championships gold in 2006, silver in 2004 and bronze in 2008. Nasreddine, 38, is in his fourth season as an assistant coach with WBS, following a 15-year playing career that included parts of five seasons with the Penguins. In 2010-11 season, he coached a defensive squad that allowed the fewest goals (183) in the AHL, helping lead the WBS Penguins to the franchise s first ever, Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy as AHL regular-season champions. In 2012-13, Nasreddine s defensive corps again allowed the fewest goals (178) in the AHL, for the second time in three years. Nasreddine appeared in 249 career contests for WBS, totaling 55 points (13G-42A). A team captain during his time in WBS, Nasreddine helped the Penguins reach the Calder Cup Final in 2003 and 07. Nasreddine was originally drafted by the Florida Panthers in the sixth round (135 th overall) of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft and also played for Chicago, Montreal and the New York Islanders in addition to Pittsburgh.

PITTSBURGH PENGUINS ROOKIE TOURNAMENT TEAM NOTES LONDON TIES Three members of Pittsburgh s 26-man rookie tournament roster defensemen Scott Harrington, Olli Maatta, and Reid McNeill share ties to London, Ontario. Harrington and Maatta were teammates on the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League in 2011-12 and 2012-13, helping the Knights to win back-to-back OHL playoff titles. McNeill, who also played for the Knights previously, is a native of London, Ontario. Harrington, 20, was chosen by the Penguins in the second round (54th overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound stay-at-home blueliner served as London s team captain in 12-13, posting a plus-21 rating in 50 regular-season games. Harrington made his professional debut with the Wilkes- Barre/Scranton Penguins during the 2013 AHL playoffs, scoring a goal on his first professional shot in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals against Syracuse. Maatta, 19, who was drafted by Pittsburgh in the first round (22nd overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft, led all London Knights defensemen in goals (8), assists (30) and points (38) during the 12-13 regular season. The Finnish product helped the Knights win the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) postseason title and earn a berth into the Memorial Cup tournament, where he posted two assists in five games. Maatta is eligible to continue to play for the Knights in the 2013-14 season. McNeill, 21, was defensive partners with fellow Penguin Scott Harrington as a member of the London Knights from 2009-2011. After a solid 2010-11 season with London, McNeill was traded to the Barrie Colts as a part of a package deal that granted London the right to select Olli Maatta in the 2011 CHL Import Draft. The 6-foot-4, 204-pound blueliner continued to progress with the Colts in 11-12, tallying 12 points (3G-9A), plus-nine rating, and 90 penalty minutes prior to joining the Wheeling Nailers in 12-13. EXPERIENCE IS KEY Philip Samuelsson, 22, who was drafted by the Penguins in the second round (61 st overall) of the 2009 NHL Draft is among the most experienced defensemen on the Penguins 2013 Rookie Tournament roster. Philip, the son of two-time Stanley Cup winning Ulf Sammuelsson, appeared in his first full season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League in 2012-13. The six-foot-two, 194-pound Samuelsson is most known for his shutdown role on the WBS penalty kill that ranked first in AHL in 2012-13 with a kill rate of 87.2 percent. Samuelsson was a member of the WBS defense that allowed the fewest goals (178) in 2012-13. He posted two goals, eight assists, 10 points, and 70 penalty minutes over 65 games with the WBS Penguins. Samuelsson will be joined by a number of players who have appeared in the AHL including forwards Bobby Farnham, Tom Kuhnhackl, Jayson Megna, Adam Payerl, Dominik Uher and defensemen Brian Domoulin and Reid McNeill.

PITTSBURGH PENGUINS ROOKIE TOURNAMENT TEAM NOTES Five of those players Farnham, Kuhnhackl, Payerl, Uher, and McNeill have also suited up for Wheeling, the Penguins ECHL affiliate.
