Guard Mara Freshour (Nashville, Ind.) had the best game of her collegiate career on Tuesday in the 77-42 win over Fordham. She scored a career-high 25 points on 10-of-12 shooting, including five three-pointers. Florida State has dominated the series with the Gators of late, winning three of the last four by an average of 17.3 points per game. For the second time this season Florida State shot 80 percent from the free throw line as it hit 12-of-15 (80 percent) against Fordham. During the entire 2006-07 season FSU only shot 80 percent twice from the line and neither happened until the month of February. Over the last three games, forward Cayla Moore (Albany, Ga.) is averaging a team-best 6.7 rebounds per game and scoring 7.7 ppg. #20/21 Florida State 4-1 0-0 ACC Last 5 Games: 4-1 Last Time Out: Won 77-42 vs. Fordham In The Polls: 20th AP / 21th USA Today Head Coach: Sue Semrau (UC San Diego 85) Record: 164-139 (.541)/11 Years At FSU: Same Vs. The Seminoles and Gators tip off at 5:30 pm this Friday (November 23) at the O Connell Center. Both teams have had a good start to the season as the Seminoles come in at 4-1 and the host Gators have a 3-1 mark. The game can be heard live on 1270 AM and at www.seminoles.com as well as seen live on Sun Sports. Seminole Looking To Continue Open Season On The Gators While Florida may hold a distinct 27-40 advantage in the all-time series, of late Florida State has had the Gators number. The Seminoles have won three of the last four games - the only three wins for head coach Sue Semrau over UF - by an average margin of 17.3 points per game. Last season Florida State trounced Florida 88-66 at home. It s Been Uh-O At The O Dome Wins have been tough to come by for the Seminoles at the O Connell Center. The current stretch of three out of the last four for Florida State was started by a 72-62 victory in Gainesville, but that was the Seminoles first victory there since the 1990-91 season. Florida won the last contest in Gainesville, 72-62, as part of the home-at-home series during the 2005-06 campaign. Since 1980, Florida State has only four wins at the O Connell Center and has lost eight of its last nine. Head coach Sue Semrau is 1-5 in the building. Seminoles Have Been State Champs Over the last two and half years, the Seminoles have been the queens of the Sunshine State. The 70-50 victory over North Florida at the DePaul Invitational ran their unbeaten streak to nine over in-state foes. FSU has not lost a game to an in-state opponent since a 62-72 loss at Florida on January 2, 2006. Road Warriors A four-game road swing might be a daunting tasks for some schools, but not Florida State. The Seminoles won 14 games a year ago away from home and half of their four wins this season have come outside Leon County. The loss to DePaul over the weekend snapped a string of four-consecutive wins in away games dating back to last season. Winning on the road this year for FSU will be important as 17 of its 29 regular season games will be away from home. Outside of Florida, SEC Has Had Florida State s Number During the last five seasons, Florida State has struggled against the Southeastern Conference. Since 2002-03, the Seminoles are 4-8 against the conference, including a 1-3 mark last season. Three of the four triumphs have come against Florida while the other victory was a 75-59 win over Mississippi State in 2005. After Florida, the Seminoles will get two more opportunities to improve their record against the SEC with a December 29 contest against Georgia at the FIU Fun and Sun Classic and a January 3 tilt against LSU at home. Seminoles On The Air Every FSU s women s basketball game will be broadcast on the radio this year. Ryan Pensy is back for fifth season as the playby-play man. He is joined this year on the broadcast by Director of Basketball Operations Melissa Bruner. The broadcasts are also available on line at Seminoles.com Interview Policy FSU Head Coach Sue Semrau, assistant coaches and players are available before practice at the Basketball Training Center. Please call SID Michael Smoose to set up an interview. Phone interviews can also be arranged. Athletes phone numbers will not be given out. Florida State went on a 14-3 run during the middle of the first half and never looked back as it pulled away for a 77-42 triumph over the Rams. In the second half Florida State held Fordham scoreless for two stretches of four minutes or more. Every player in the game for the Seminoles scored at least one point and grabbed a rebound. Winning By A Lot In its four victories Florida State has been able to get everyone in the game because the contests have been in question long before the final buzzer. The Seminoles have won their first four games by an average of 30.5 ppg. and only Florida International has gotten within in 20 (70-50). Last season FSU only had four wins total by 20 points or more and the fourth did come until January 2 against High Point. This season is the first since the 2000-01 campaign that Florida State s first four victories have been by 20 points or more. That year FSU s first five wins were by 20 points or more, which is the longest opening stretch in school history. Sharp Shooting Tuesday s 53.8 percent (28-of-52) from the floor was the Seminoles third game of shooting over 50 percent. In all five games, Florida State has shot no lower than.425 percent, which is why it ranks second in the conference at 50.7 percent, just 0.1 behind Maryland. Forward Jacinta Monroe (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) rates second in the league at 70.3 percent. For the second time this season she was perfect from the floor as she hit 6-of-6 against the Rams. FSU Playing Well At Both Ends Of The Floor Few teams have played at both ends of the floor as well as the Seminoles have in the early going. Fifth in the conference for scoring offense (76.6 ppg) and scoring defense (54.4 ppg), Florida State is one of only two teams in the league, along with Duke, to rate in the ACC s top five in both categories. The same holds true outside the three-point arch where the Seminoles are the No. 2 most accurate team at 41.4 percent, trailing Maryland at 46.7 percent, while limiting opponents to 26.0 from way downtown. Everyone Doing Their Job To Clean The Glass Even though Florida State does not have a single player ranked in the conference s top 15 for rebounding, the team sits fifth in the league with an 8.6 rebounding margin. The Seminoles have four players grabbing at least four rebounds per game, led by forwards Jacinta Monroe at 6.8 rpg and Cayla Moore with 6.4 rpg. Every player on the team is averaging at least a pair of boards per game and every Seminole that has gotten into the last four games has pulled in at least one rebound. Scouting Florida There s a new era in Gainesville as the Gators are under the direction Florida alum Amanda Butler, who took over the reigns as court boss this season. An assistant at Florida, Austin Peay and Charlotte before taking over the 49ers program two years ago, she massed a 40-22 record and took Charlotte to a pair of WNIT appearances. While this is her first meeting Florida At A Glance 2007-08 Record: 3-1 Conf Record/Finish: 0-0 Top Scorer: Depree Bowden, G, Sr., 17.0 ppg. Top Rebounder: Marshae Dotson, F, Jr., 12.0 rpg. against FSU as head coach, Butler is 4-2 in her career versus the Seminoles with a 2-2 mark as a player and 2-0 as a UF assistant. She inherited a Florida team that went 9-22, including 2-12 in the SEC, last year, but has plenty of talent. The Gators have relied on a core of five players who are averaging 62.1 points per game. UF has won three of its first four, but the one was a 27-point loss at Nebraska that has skewed opponents 71.8 ppg and 41.6 percent shooting average. Guard Dupree Bowden is one of four players in double figures at 17.0 ppg. Forward Marshae Dotson has been a monster on the glass, averaging 12.0 rpg.

For her career, the senior is averaging 12.3 ppg., 4.9 rpg, 4.0 assists per game and 2.0 steals per game. Last year she had a big game against Florida, tossing in a season-high 21 points with six boards, five dimes and three swipes. Williams has been dead on at the free throw line in the first two and half weeks of 2007-08 as her 87.5 percent at the charity stripe rates second in the ACC. She is also 13th in the ACC at 3.8 apg and 10th with a 1.46 assist-to-turnover ratio. Mara In The Morning Maybe guard Mara Freshour should set her watch to AM on game days. In the Seminoles game against Fordham, with an 11 AM tip-off, the junior scored a career-high 25 points on 10-of-12 shooting, including 5-of-7 from three point range, which equals her personal best. In last year s first round ACC Tournament versus Wake Forest game - which also tipped at 11 AM - she orginally set career highs with 18 points, off five three-pointers, and dished out six assists. Against Fordham she scored the Seminoles first 10 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Freshour Red Hot In Last Three Games Guard Mara Freshour, who played the four position and jumped the opening tip against the Rams, has been playing outstanding the last three games. She has reached double figures in each of the last three outings and is averaging a teambest 18.0 ppg. during those contests. She has been very accurate from behind the arc, hitting 60.0% (9-of-15) of her shots. Florida State Has Been Getting FSU Leaders Everything Monroe Has Per 40 Minutes Despite battling the flu for the last Points: Jacinta Monroe, 25.7 ppg. week, forward Jacinta Monroe has Rebounds: Cayla Moore, 13.6 rpg. been putting up some impressive numbers. Despite playing an average of 16.0 Assists: Shante Williams, 7.6 apg. Steals: Shante Williams, 4.4 spg. minutes per game in the last two outings, the 6-foot-4 junior is scoring 13.0 ppg. and pulling in 7.5 rpg. Per 40 minutes of play, Monroe is averaging a doubledouble with a team-best 25.7 ppg. and 12.5 rpg. while shooting 70.3 percent. Moore Production The most pleasant surprise of the early season has been the play of forward Cayla Moore. A spot player for most of her redshirt freshman year, injuries, illness and departure have thrust her onto the floor and she has responded. Moore has already exceeded her 2007-08 totals for points and rebounds while playing an average of 13 more minutes per game. Over the last two games she is averaging 10.0 ppg and 8.5 rpg. 2007-08 Florida State Women s Basketball Roster No. Player Hgt Pos Yr Hometown Of Note... 1 Angel Gray 5-9 G So. Stone Mountain, Ga. Much of her effort has flown under the radar as she has picked it up on the defensive end of the court. The last three games she has drawn the opponent s best offensive perimeter/wing player and has held all three under their scoring average. One measurable area where she is producing is on the glass. She rates third on a team with a rate of 4.6 rpg. that is nearly double her career average. Davis-Cain is 13th in the ACC at 1.60 three-pointers per game and ninth in school history at 80 career threes. Freshman Ward Providing All-Around Game Stepping into the starting point guard role can be a daunting task, but rookie Courtney Ward (Montgomery, Ala.) has been up to the challenge so far this season in many facets of the game. The 5-foot-7 freshman ranks just behind team leader and mentor Shante Williams with 10 steals and 11 assists. Even though she only scored three points against Fordham, she contributed to 10 more points with her four assists. In addition, both of her steals turned into scoring possessions for Florida State as did two of her five rebounds. In two of the last three games, she has gotten more involved in a the rebounding by pulling down a season-high five boards against DePaul and Fordham. Record Watch 3 Pt Field Goal Percentage 1.
