Project Design New Softball Stadium MU At the February 2015 meeting, the Board approved the $16,000,000 New Softball Stadium project to be funded from $13,500,000 in private gifts and $2,500,000 in debt financing. Additionally, at the February 2015 meeting, the Board approved employing Lempka Edson Architects (L+E), Overland Park, Kansas, as the project architect. Debt financing was approved at the June 2012 meeting for renovations to the existing softball stadium as part of the $72 million debt financing for Intercollegiate Athletics Projects. The University of Missouri-Columbia Campus Master Plan, which included the Intercollegiate Athletics Master Plan, approved by the BOC in June 2014, identified a need for a new softball stadium. The on-the-field success of the MU softball team has increased the demand for spectator seating and support facilities, and improved and expanded team facilities. At the same time, NCAA regulations for competitive venues call for increasing the depth of the homerun fence by the year 2017 to 230 feet to center field, a nearly 40 foot extension. The growing needs for MU Softball have exceeded the feasibility of expanding and improving the existing location due to site constraints, including the significant topography changes at the existing golf course, proximity of the existing roadway, and cellular and power infrastructure. The new facilities will provide fans with a full-view concourse and outfield plaza, a 1,500 to 1,700 seat venue, and outfield bermed lawn area offering increased capacity for an additional 500 to 1000 spectators. The existing stadium is limited to 600 stadium seats and little opportunity for outfield seating. The stadium includes an elevated press box with radio and television broadcast booths, writing press suite, and a game management booth. The Tigers Home Team Suite will be located directly behind the home dugout and will include a mud room and team locker room facilities. The remaining shell building is configured to house future fit-out of a press level Club Suite with seating for approximately forty (40) patrons, a field level home team lounge, theater, video room, coaches locker rooms and meeting room, a sports medicine/ rehabilitation facility, and umpire and visiting team locker rooms. The shelled space at the concourse level is available for future fit-out for coach and staff offices and a conference room with direct access to the stadium concourse. The site for a future indoor practice infield is part of the master facility plan. A ticket booth will be located at the south entrance main gates. The improvements will also include heated dugouts, batting cages, and bullpens for each team. The field dimensions will be 190 feet at the foul lines and 230 feet at center field. The home run wall will be 6 feet in height. The field will be a natural turf outfield, dirt infield with apron inserts of synthetic turf, and a crushed brick 10 foot warning track. OPEN FIN INFO 4-1
The project also includes the redevelopment of the existing 1,109 car MU student and commuter parking lot that will displace 503 parking spaces. A new parking lot will be constructed south of Champions Drive at the intersection with Providence Point Drive to replace 251 spaces. A new band practice field will be constructed south of the new parking lot to allow the existing practice area to accommodate 217 parking spaces for student and commuter parking near the transit stop. A new storage building and parking area for the band s semi-trailer will also be located adjacent to the practice area. The existing conductor s tower will be relocated to the new site as well. The total base bid construction cost is $11,600,000. The new parking lot is anticipated to be completed in November 2015, with the new Softball Stadium completed by December 2016. Site plan and floor plan diagrams and renderings of the design concept are attached. OPEN FIN INFO 4-2
