A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Takewing overraced in the early stages. It's A Shamozzle pulled hard in the early and middle stages. App. V Bolozhinskyi explained he considered improving between Reiby The Red and Meiner Freccia, however his mount, which was held up for some distance in the early part of the straight, was not travelling as well as he anticipated and when the run was tight and did not appear to be available at the time he was going to improve, he elected to steady and shifted to the outside of Takewing. Pursuit Of Honour hampered when taken wider near the 200m by It's A Shamozzle (V Bolozhinskyi), which shifted out. App. Bolozhinskyi was advised to exercise more care. Onerous held up making the home turn and on straightening was steadied when briefly tightened by Hurrara, which shifted in. When questioned, rider H Bowman explained that his mount, as anticipated, settled in a rearward position and he was satisfied that the gelding was travelling well throughout the early and middle stages. He added that after the 500m he
3 considered shifting to position to track Mr Manhattan through, however he felt his mount was not improving well enough at this time and in his opinion it was in Onerous's best interests to pursue runs towards the inside. He said rounding the home turn he elected to ride for luck inside Hurrara, however when that horse shifted in momentarily Onerous was briefly tightened. H Bowman further stated that this resulted in his mount losing momentum at a vital point of the race and this, coupled with his mount laying in and the fast first 600m, made it difficult for the gelding to make up ground in the straight. Trainer Mr C Waller stated that with the gelding over 1000m today and blinkers off, the speed of the race did not suit Onerous and it may be looking for further distance. He said, whilst in hindsight it may have been a preferable option to follow Mr Manhattan through rounding the home turn, he understood the reason for the rider pursuing opportunities towards the inside of the field. Mr Waller further added that Onerous had been working well in the lead up into today's race and a forward showing was expected of the gelding. Hurrara inclined to hang out making the home turn and was then held up for some distance until approaching the 200m. RACE 5: #Theraces Handicap 2200m Bring Luck refused to jump with the field and missed the start (5L). Co-trainer Ms A Turner was advised Bring Luck must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again. App. Panya was reprimanded and advised to ensure she gives her fellow riders sufficient racing room in similar circumstances. Shards after being caught wide in the early stages, improved into a leading position at the 1600m. The gelding then commenced to pull hard for some distance thereafter. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Supercoach on straightening was briefly tightened and made contact with Hot Mustard as a result of Loving Home (H Bowman) shifting out when not clear. H Bowman was advised to exercise more care. Dowdstown Charlie rider K McEvoy explained that his mount travelled only fairly throughout the race and in his opinion was not suited by the firmer track and as a consequence the gelding did not let down. He said he believed the track conditions were the principal reason for Dowdstown Charlie failing to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mrs K Waugh agreed with the views expressed by K McEvoy and indicated that the gelding would now be spelled. RACE 6: Pro-Ride Handicap 1000m Realise Potential began awkwardly. Mr Delaney advised the gelding would now be retired. Old Man Sam when questioned, H Bowman stated from the outside barrier today he had been under no specific instructions other than to find a position with cover and have the gelding travel comfortably. He said that in the early stages he allowed his mount to settle towards the rear of the field and after the 500m he commenced to pressure his mount to remain racing on the back of Realise Potential. He added that he commenced to ride along in the early part of the straight, however Old Man Sam did not initially respond as he anticipated and he was unable to maintain his position and was one-paced to the line. Karakuchi when questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the mare, which was resuming from a spell, rider J McDonald was unable to offer any tangible reason for the performance today. He added that as is usual Karakuchi settled in a rearward position, but despite his efforts the mare failed to close the race off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame behind. Trainer Mr M Dale was advised a veterinary clearance would be required before Karakuchi races or barrier trials. RACE 7: TAB Rewards Handicap 1400m Sort After began awkwardly. Labdien slow to begin. Euro Angel rider T Berry explained that from the outside barrier it was anticipated that the mare would take up a forward position in today's race, however it did not begin well and, as the mare has shown a tendency in the past to race keenly, he did not ride his mount along and allowed it to settle towards the rear of the field. He added approaching the 1000m Euro Angel commenced to pull hard, got onto the heels of Circular and then shifted out and raced without cover for the major of the race. T Berry further stated that Euro Angel commenced to lay in in the straight and for this reason he changed his whip over to his right hand, whereby the mare finished the race off well. Wutai Mountain a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Zoumagic a post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. 5 across the heels of Royal Tudor. As the Stewards were of the view that had the incident not occurred Royal Tudor would have finished ahead of No Doubt, the objection was dismissed. C Reith was reprimanded. Trainer Mr A Cummings and rider K McEvoy were advised that their objection bordered on being frivolous, however after giving due regard to the explanations tendered, no action was taken. Coolcraft throughout the race travelled wide without cover. Rye held up over the last 100m and consequently was unable to be tested. Dubawi Dream over the last 200m Sonic Swish commenced to hang out and near the 150m shifted out and inconvenienced Dubawi Dream. A post-race veterinary examination of the horse, which travelled wide without cover, did not reveal any abnormalities. Multifacets rider H Bowman stated that it was not his intention to lead today, however the gelding jumped well and, as no other rider was keen to go forward, Multifacets was left in front after the 1000m.
