Channel Log WEST CHANNEL YACHT CLUB Your Summer Vacation on The River www.westchannel.com October 2013 Words from the Commodore Commodore- John Orlosky The leaves are starting to change, the nights are getting cold and the waves are getting bigger: all signs that the 2012 boating season is coming to end. But don't shut down too quickly; there is still plenty of fun to be had at WCYC. We will be having more Browns parties and hope to have one or two for the Buckeyes on a Saturday. Keep an eye open for a blast or flier for information about them. I would like to congratulate Terry, Bonnie and crew for delivering a great clambake. The weather was perfect for a clambake, the food was delicious and the band was fantastic. If you missed attending the clambake, you missed a great party. Remember, when taking your boat out of the water to check with the Rear Commodore Terry or Fleet Captain Ed about where to store your boat. The crane operators names and numbers are listed on the bulletin board, to avoid any confusion please make arraignments with a day and time that you would like them to pull your boat. The work hour and insurance sheets in the house are up to date, so make sure you have your work hours in. The opportunities for getting more hours grow smaller each month. If you see a discrepancy with your hours, contact Sam to review. Make sure when you add your name, time and work done to the work hour sheet that is on the counter in the club house when you do the work. Don't forget: Blue Gavel/ Big Boy Comedy night next month on October 26. Thanks to all for you continued help throughout the year. You all have made it a great year at West Channel. We plan on having more Browns parties and hope to have one or two for the Buckeyes too. Keep an eye open for a email blast or flier for information about them. Clubhouse Comments Vice Commodore- Reva Linke It s been a great year so far and things are now winding down for the fall. Thanks again for the great year. The board has had some discussion on a new TV for the clubhouse. We discussed this at the last membership meeting and decided that we will find some fundraisers to support the expense of getting the new flat screen TV. We will keep you informed of the progress and discussions that will take place. At the Clam Bake this past Saturday night, Larry Davison won one of the side boards and donated his winnings back to the club for expenses toward the new TV. Thank you Larry! If you have any questions about the TV please let one of the board members know. The Annual Big Boy Comedy Night is coming up as the final BIG party of the season. We ve had great success with this party the past few years, including great reviews on the comedians. I hope ALL of you to plan on attending. For $20 per person you get (Original Style) Big Boy Burger and fries. The comedy show starts after dinner and features two professional circuit comedians. plus a cash bar all evening!..you can t beat it. Blue Gavel will also have their drawings for an Apple I-PAD & a Kindle Fire. Reservations can be made with Bonnie Vercellino. Let s have a great end of the season party. Hope to see you there and. bring your friends. We May Be Heading To The End of The Boating Season BUT.... We re Not Done Having Fun Yet!

WCYC / Blue Gavel P/C Glenn Linke Happenings In The Harbor Fleet Captain- Ed Wohl Well, it's that time of the year again where summer has ended and winter boat storage has started. As you make arrangements with the travel lift operators to remove and place your boat, let me just remind all of you that all small to medium size boats, on trailers, must be stored in the trailer lot after they are winterized. All boats need to be out of the water by the end of October. After your boat is out, your uprights, hand railing and bolts/washers need to be removed by you and put in the large shed. Please leave 2 bolts/washers in your side of the dock for dock removal purpose. Any questions, please call me at 216-970-0193 Just want to say what a great clambake Bonnie and Terry put on. We have another great party coming up October 26th the Big Boy Comedy Night. This has been a great event and well supported. If you like big boy sandwiches, fries and you enjoy to laugh don't miss this one. Admission is only $20 and reservations can be made with Bonnie Vercellino by October 23rd. On this event night we also will be raffling off an I-Pad and a Kindle Fire. Tickets are just $5 or 5 for $20 tickets are available through WCYC Blue Gavel or the night of the show. A flyer will be available on our website or at the clubhouse bring your friends for an enjoyable evening. Around The Grounds Rear Commodore- Terry Vercellino Well, I am sorry that the season is headed to a close soon. I appreciate all the help with lawn mowing and keeping the grounds looking good this season. The clambake went great. It was good friends, good food, good music and oh yes good drink too! I would like to express my deepest gratitude to my wonderful wife, Bonnie, for her hard work in organizing this function and to all who helped in their various tasks to make it come together and clean it all up when it was over. Thanks to the members and their guests who attended everyone made it a fun evening. Special Thanks to Larry Davison, who won a side board and donated his winnings back to WCYC to use towards a new TV.
