Proserpine Whitsunday Junior Rugby League Welcome NEWSLETTER May 2014 Volunteers are vital to the successful running of our club and often many volunteers feel their dedication and commitment goes unrecognised. As our way of saying Thank You and to recognise all the Women in League, I encourage everyone to wear pink at our home game this Saturday as we celebrate the amazing women involved in our club. I would like to take this opportunity to thank these valuable ladies as I know without them, our club would not survive and function as well as it does. Congratulations to the following players who have been selected in the 2014 Mackay Rep Squads U16 Jackson Brooks, U15 Nathan Barrett, Kai O Donnell, Matthew DiPrima and Liam Murphy and U14 players Anthony Taylor, Jack Kearns, Jake Harrison, Ben Cornish and Cooper Dunn, Tyson Gorman and Hone Bloomer in the U13s As you will recall, our first home game was cancelled at the start of the season due to wet weather. This make-up Round against Norths has been scheduled for the 5 th July. Please keep this date in mind and if you know that your child will not be available to play as it is the June/July school holidays, please let your Coaches know now so they can plan future team rosters. I invite all parents of the U15 and U16 players to attend a Parent Meeting tomorrow Tuesday, 6 th May as we must discuss the dilemmas faced with each team not having enough players to field a side. Please meet Ash Sheehy, Neil Brooks and myself at 5.00pm at the sporting grounds to further discuss our options. Lastly, we have had a terrific start to the year and all teams have been performing exceptionally well. To succeed in your training you re going to have to put as much effort in as possible and now it is time to step up to the next level. It does make a huge difference to how you play on game days. We have two home games in a row so please encourage your friends and family to come along for a great day out and support the Junior Brahmans. Good luck everybody. Kevin Young President Be proud to be a BRAHMAN Proserpine Whitsunday Junior Rugby League PO Box 36 PROSERPINE QLD 4800 E. pwjrl@bigpond.com www.proswhitjnrleague.leaguenet.com.au Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/groups/pwjrl

In celebrating the 2014 Harvey Norman Women in League Round, the Proserpine Junior Brahmans will become the Pink Brahmans this Saturday as we pay tribute to the many women who give their time generously in a variety of voluntary roles from the canteen to the ticket-booth as well as our team Coaches and Managers, First Aid Officers, LeagueSafe personnel and as Committee Members. These women are integral to the sport of Junior Rugby League and we ask that our community come along to our home game against the Mackay Magpies on Saturday, 10th May wearing pink and supporting the McGrath Foundation generously. Every dollar makes a difference and your donation will help the McGrath Foundation place McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities right across Australia, and to increase breast awareness in young Australian women. To date, 87 McGrath Breast Care Nurses have been placed across Australia, who together have helped support over 21,000 families experiencing breast cancer. 100% of all donations will be forwarded to the McGrath Foundation. To donate to the PINK BRAHMANS online fundraising page, please go to http://mcgrathfoundation.gofundraise.com.au/page/pinkbrahmans As they say at the McGrath Foundation, together, we can make a difference! Or you can go to our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/pwjrl Or the club website at www.proswhitjnrleague.leaguenet.com.au and click on McGrath Foundation.

Thank you in advance. AWESOME ACHIEVEMENT We are thrilled to announce that one of our own has been selected in the Under 15 Queensland White team. This is an awesome feat Nathan Barrett. CONGRATULATIONS!

WE WON!!! We are very excited to announce that the PWJRL was successful in being awarded TWO major grants for the club and our wider community. $35,000 - to upgrade the canteen $5,000 - to supply and install air-conditioning and screen doors We are extremely grateful and wish to express our thanks to the Queensland Government, the Gambling Community Benefit Fund and the Break Water Island Casino Community Benefit Fund. If you have any suggestions or ideas as to how else we could improve the grounds and facilities, please send your suggestions to pwjrl@bigpond.com. We would really like to have your input. PARENT MEETING U15 & U16 PARENTS *** TOMORROW *** An urgent meeting has been called regarding the future team structure of the U15 and U16 teams. We request that all parents and guardians of these players please come to the sporting grounds at 5.00pm on Tuesday, 6 th May to discuss the future of both these teams. Coaches, Ash Sheehy (U15) and Neil Brooks (U16) and Kevin Young (President) look forward to your participation in this discussion. Paul Bowman Challenge The Paul Bowman Challenge (PBC) is an under 9 carnival attracting over 3000 visitors to our region. Paul Bowman was once a Junior Brahman who went on to represent Queensland on 12 occasions in the State of Origin. The first carnival was held in 2008 with teams venturing to the Whitsundays from across the state to play their hearts out. Paul commits to our carnival every year being the son of long-serving local vet Bill Bowman. Bear as he is affectionately known, played his junior years with the Proserpine Junior Rugby League Club progressing to A Grade with the Senior Brahmans. He played his entire club career at the North Queensland Cowboys whom he also captained. He spent five years as the regular Queensland State of Origin centre and is currently the High Performance Manager at the NQ Cowboys. Our recent call for Preferred Accommodation Providers to sponsor the Paul Bowman Challenge received a great response and we wish to heartily thank Blue Horizon Resort Airlie Beach Hotel Club Crocodile Hotel Airlie Beach Seabreeze Tourist Park Financial sponsorship is critical as there are many expenses connected with running this carnival. From payments for game officials, food and beverage, first aid supplies and all other costs associated with the organisation of an enormous event to the supply of player packs which consists of Paul Bowman Challenge Bags, Shirts and Water Bottles and miscellaneous items. Running such an event is very costly hence. If you know any companies that may be able to assist our club, could you please let us know and we will personally contact them? Alternatively, please offer them our email address pwjrl@bigpond.com. This event attracts thousands of visitors which in turn benefits our community by way of tourism as well as generating media exposure and extra boosting the economy in our local community.

THANK YOU To the club s serial pest Boozer aka Paul Dray we give thanks for taking time out of your hectic schedule to go and purchase paint for the goalposts at the club. Boozer then had the audacity to harass one of our very valued sponsors asking them to donate the product. Our gratitude to Glen Mansfield of P&D Industrial for buckling to Boozer s pesky behaviour and kindly donating the 8 litres of white enamel paint which we can certainly guarantee was used on the painting of the goal posts. This task was completed by Boozer himself with the help of Steven Handley. Thanks guys! Thank you also to the following volunteers for mowing and painting the fields in preparation for our home game against Moranbah. Cameron Bennett Andrew Mau Steven Handley Billy Stevens Friday Night Pub Raffle Please be aware of your teams rostered night and make the effort to attend. Don t leave it for the same people to do it for your team each time. If your kids play the game, please help do the time RAFFLE ROSTER 2014 9 th May - U8 16 th May - U9 23 rd May - U10 30 th May - U11 6 th June - U12 13 th June - U13 20 th June - U14 27 th June - U15 To be shown the ropes, please attend at least one event prior so that you learn what is involved in the running of the raffle. Please don t leave this task to the SAME PEOPLE ALL THE TIME. We would also like to express our gratitude to Tony Gamgemi of Gangemi Cabinet Makers for the supply and installation of new shelving in our clubhouse. Shelving has become essential as floodwaters tend to flow through the facilities resulting in us having to throw out a lot of water-damaged equipment. After the water damage from Cyclone Ita we lost 2 printers, club merchandise and training equipment. This will be very costly to replace, not to mention the mighty job of cleaning up afterwards. Make yourself available P.L.E.A.S.E. NEXT CLUB MEETING: Tuesday, 13 th May at 5.30pm Kevin in a NSW Onesie! The shelves have been well and truly stacked full to the brim in an effort to get as much as possible off the ground to prevent future damage. Kindly presented by Neale & Lee-Anne Dougherty
