Myopic - raced three wide without cover throughout. Off Shores Pearl - inclined to lay in under pressure in the early part of the straight. When questioned regarding whether he could have placed his mount, which was racing at the rear of the field, under pressure earlier than he did on this occasion, rider Adam McCabe stated that the filly was racing greenly approaching and rounding the home turn with an inclination to lay inwards and he therefore waited it until it was balanced on straightening and placed it
under full pressure leaving the 300m, at which time it finished the race off well. His comments were noted. Lemombo Rose - held up in the straight and did not obtain clear running until approaching the 100m. La Llorona - held up in the straight and did not obtain clear running until passing the 100m. Race 2 - Porter Plant Maiden Plate - 1100 metres: Captivator - late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 9.30am. Chief Moondance - checked at the start when crowded between Grand Casino and American Summer which was taken out by Universal Thief. Mance Rayder - began awkwardly. Hung out approaching and rounding the home turn. Star Selection - knuckled on jumping. Raced wide without cover throughout. Apprentice Ben Thompson stated that although his mount raced wide early, it began to weaken prior to straightening. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any Jailhouse Rock - raced keenly in the early stages. Universal Thief - rider Brad Rawiller reported that after failing to jump away cleanly, his mount settled further back than intended. Grand Casino - had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight. Race 3 - Whitford Liquid Waste Maiden Plate - 1400 metres: Maquina Amor - began awkwardly and shortly after was hampered by Zartini which was bumped and carried wider by Supergrass. Rounding the home turn near the 400m, had to be steadied when improving onto the heels of Danes Ryker. Approaching the 200m had to be eased when awkwardly placed on the heels of Danes Ryker and shifted to that runners inside to obtain clear running. Karakoram - shifted out at the start and bumped Supergrass. Danes Ryker - raced keenly in the early stages. Oracabessa - after being caught wide was allowed to stride forward and assume the lead passing the 900m. Rider Luke Nolen could offer no explanation for the performance, which was below market expectations. Moshe Lass - near the 1000m, when racing keenly, got its head up when having to be restrained to avoid the heels of We Fly As One (Lachlan King) which shifted in when not quite sufficiently clear; Lachlan King was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in at this stage. Raced wide without cover throughout. Miss Amanda - had some difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight. Was again held up over the concluding stages. Supergrass - raced in restricted room over the final 75m. Race 4 - C E Bartlett Maiden Plate - 1600 metres: Thornberry - connections advised would be ridden forward; led. Trainer Clinton McDonald was reminded of his obligation to notify of any change of tactics thirty minutes prior to the advertised starting time of the race. A post race veterinary examination identified the presence of blood at both nostrils. The horse shall not without permission of the Stewards: (a) be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two months thereafter; (b) start in any race for a period of three months, and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at least 1000m in the presence of a Steward. Passing the 1000m had to be checked when tightened for room between Mr Integrity and Seramasa which, when the pace slackened, had improved to the inside of Youl Beatem, which itself had improved to the inside of Dandre (Adam McCabe), which had shifted back inwards marginally after initially shifted out slightly ; whilst Stewards noted the circumstances leading up to the incident, they advised Adam McCabe that in similar circumstances he should make a greater effort to relieve pressure to runners to his inside. Mr Integrity - bumped with Nicosmile at the start. Celestial Jewel - over-raced in the early stages. Bumped on the hindquarters rounding the home turn. Goornong Galaxy - over-raced in the early and middle stages. Dandre - raced three wide without cover throughout. Race 5 - City of Ballarat Class 1 Handicap - 1200 metres: Toosbuy - came together with Ansinna at the start. Approaching the 600m after being crossed by Vanitoso, shifted out and bumped Mr Sinatra. Ansinna - came together with Toosbuy at the start. Held up in the early part of the straight. Mr Sinatra - bumped and carried wider at the 600m and was obliged to race wide without cover from this point. Mandjar - raced wide without cover throughout. Lessyd - rider Dwayne Dunn reported that it had not been his intention to lead, however with the high weight impost, he elected maintain a forward position. Vanitoso - rider Andrew Mallyon could offer no explanation for the performance which was below market expectations. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any Race 6 - Hygain BM70 Handicap - 1200 metres: Gold Heist - connections advised would be ridden further forward; led. At the start was tightened for room between Rosti, which shifted in abruptly, and River Goddess which was bumped and carried out by King Deano. Blevic Boy - slow to begin. Wingleow - commenced awkwardly. Notio - inclined to lay inwards under pressure in the straight and further, passing the 300m shifted in making contact with Luchador. Hifranc - laid inwards under pressure in the straight. Rider Brad Rawiller stated that he was satisfied with the manner in which the gelding finished the race off, bearing in mind it was first up from a lengthy spell. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any Spearhead - when questioned regarding the gelding leading in todays event, which is in contrast to its regular racing pattern, rider Craig Newitt reported that in the past it has had a tendency to miss the kick, and as a result had settled further back than they had intended. He added that after beginning well today, and after commencing to over-race, due to the lack of early speed he therefore allowed it to stride forward and obtain the lead.
