Palmer GENERAL: After the running of Race 3 stewards with club officials inspected a section of the track between the 600 metres and the 300 metres where it had been observed that some horses had experienced difficulty with their footing. Remedial work was undertaken on that section of the track immediately following Race 4. Stewards subsequently downgraded the track rating from DEAD (5) to SLOW (6). LATE RIDING CHANGES: When Jockey M. Pegus was injured and unable to fulfil his engagements, substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey Pegus will be advised that he must furnish a medical clearance prior to being permitted to ride again. When Jockey S. Pawsey was to be overweight and unable to fulfil his engagements for DUKE'S CHARM in Race 2, BREAKTHROUGH in Race 7, and TEST THE BEST in Race 8, substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey Pawsey was fined $200 under A.R. 120(b). Race 1: Edmonton Pharmacy QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap - 1250 metres 1st - NEVETUS 2nd - ELEMENT OF CHANCE 3rd - SHE'S ALL OURS 4th - ONE BAR NONE SHE'S ALL OURS (App. S. Wiseman) shifted in at the start and carried ONE BAR NONE (App.
J. Kuskopf) inwards. SHE'S ALL OURS was inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. Race 2: PANASALES Class 3 Handicap - 950 metres 1st - GLAURUNG 2nd - SHADOWS OF SIN 3rd - JACSAID 4h - CROTCHET DUKE'S CHARM (D. Simmons) began awkwardly and shortly afterwards was crowded between PICK AND RUN (J. P. Stanley), which was taken inwards by SHADOWS OF SIN (G. Kliese) and CROTCHET (A. Spinks), which shifted out. Shortly after the start GLAURUNG (App. B. Swaffer) had to be checked when crowded between MANALUTE (D. Hayse) and GENERAL HAP (R. Thompson), which shifted in. Leaving the 700 metres GLAURUNG, which was inclined to lay in away from CASHED UP BULLY (S. Kaya), shifted in and bumped MANALUTE, which was taken in onto LIDEEM (C. Whiteley). Rounding the home turn ALEXANDER PARADE (App. S. Wiseman) dipped and blundered, resulting in App. Wiseman becoming unbalanced. Over the concluding stages PICK AND RUN and DUKE'S CHARM were held up for clear running and went to the line without being fully tested. Following the running of this race, at 1.33 p.m., the track rating was downgraded to DEAD (5). Race 3: - Mark Dodge Volvo Cars Cairns Class 2 Handicap - 1250 metres 1st - INSIDE PAGE 2nd - MORE THAN A SONG 3rd - PUDZIANOWSKI 4th - SPEED DRAGON COURT'S SUN (G. Watson) was slow to begin. WISHFUL (App. S. Wiseman), which stood very awkwardly in the barriers, then turned its head to the side as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. HYDRIVE (S. Pawsey) bounded away and lost significant ground. Approaching the first turn RACING IN THE WIND (D. Simmons) was inclined to hang out and had to be steadied across the heels of MORE THAN A SONG (G. Kliese). Near the 1000 metres RACING IN THE WIND dipped. Race 4: - Plasta Masta BenchMark 70 Handicap - 1500 metres 1st - WHATANEXCUSE 2nd - SKITTER 3rd - LIL' RED MONKEY 4th - BO ROSSA App. S. Wiseman reported that SKITTER slipped behind on jumping. Shortly after the start BOLD TROJAN (J. Lyon) was hampered. When questioned regarding the performance of POUND ON TUBBY, Jockey B. Shinn stated that after being slow to begin the gelding was inclined to over-race throughout the early and middle stages and when placed prior to straightening for home hung out and failed to respond to his riding
and was disappointing. When questioned regarding the below market expectations of DE LA SOUL, Jockey R. Thompson explained that the gelding travelled comfortably throughout, failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure in the home straight and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of DE LA SOUL revealed that the gelding was displaying a poor recovery rate. In the early part of the home straight ROWEINER (G. Kliese) raced in restricted room. In the home straight BO ROSSA (T. Bannon) laid in. Race 5: - CSF Steel Vic Tonkin Memorial Class 6 Plate - 1250 metres 1st - CLEAVER 2nd - BARACHELLO 3rd - NEW DAY RISING 4th - SNITZEM 5TH - CHATEAU DETTORI A pre-race veterinary examination of SNITZEM (C. Whiteley), which was backing up from yesterday's meeting cleared the horse to take its place in the field. STROM THE RHYTHM (J. P. Stanley) began awkwardly. VON SEBASTIAN (J. Lyon) was a little slow to begin. Throughout the middle stages NEDIYM'S QUEST (F. Edwards) raced fiercely. Approaching the first turn, near the 900 metres,von SEBASTIAN shifted in away from NEDIYM'S QUEST and made contact with STROM THE RHYTHM, resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced. A short distance later VON SEBASTIAN was checked when tightened for room between NEDIYM'S QUEST and STROM THE RHYTHM, which shifted out. Race 6: - Brothers Cairns Cup Open Handicap - 2100 metres 1st - PAYTEEVEE 2nd - LADRETTO 3rd - STRATO MOSTRO 4th - SEA FIGHT 5 - JUNEE BOY Prior to the race trainer D. Symons advised stewards that Jockey Bannon will be instructed to ride the gelding forward, if possible. From its wide barrier CANONIZED did not have sufficient pace to take up a forward position and consequently raced midfield. After being placed in the barriers ROWEINER (G. Kliese) broke through, was quickly recaptured, examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field. Rounding the first turn LADRETTO (G. Kliese), which was inclined to hang out, had to be steadied when racing tight to the inside of PAYTEEVEE (A. Coome), which was carried in marginally by JUNEE BOY. JUNEE BOY (S. Wilson) raced wide throughout. Race 7: - Traffic Services Class 1 Handicap - 1500 metres 1st - PRETTY VACANT 2nd - HERE TO DASH 3rd - BLUE AXIS 4th - PRESSUM Approaching the 200 metres MARKAZY (J. P. Stanley) was disappointing for a run between BEARIZAN (J. Dickinson) and BLUE AXIS (D. Evans). FLUKES was eased out of the race near the 800 metres. D. Missen advised that the horse began
awkwardly and slipped behind, he said that approaching the first turn the horse felt awkward in its action and for this reason he elected to ease the horse down. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the horse was sore in the lower back and rump region. Trainer G. Wehlow will be advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance prior to FLUKES being permitted to race again. Following the race connections reported that HER EAGLE EYES had been galloped on. A postrace veterinary examination of HER EAGLE EYES (T. Bannon) revealed that the mare had sustained a severed off hind tendon. HER EAGLE EYES was subsequently euthanased on humane grounds. Race 8: - Babinda Electrics Newmarket Open Handicap - 1400 metres 1st - SECRET STEALTH 2nd - COMIC RULER 3rd - BLAME GAME 4th - RHYTHM N' RAP 5th - MOROSSA After being placed in the barriers BLAME GAME (D. Missen) broke through the barriers, was quickly restrained, examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field. After arriving behind the barriers SHOWMETHEMONEY (G. Watson) was kicked by another runner. The gelding was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to race. SHOWMETHEMONEY, which was fractious in the barriers, was slow to begin. MOROSSA (F. Edwards) began awkwardly. Rounding the turn near the 900 metres RHYTHM N' RAP blundered. When questioned Jockey G. Watson was at a loss to explain the performance of SHOWMETHEMONEY. Jockey Watson said that after being tardy at the start, the gelding travelled comfortably throughout, however was a beaten horse by the 700 metres. A post-race veterinary examination of SHOWMETHEMONEY did not reveal any abnormality.
