Achieve More CHITŌ-RYŪ KARATE-DŌ SHŌWA One of the key philosophies contained in the shōwa says If you work hard, you are certain to achieve your goals. The 3 kanji characters used to write this in the showa are. This would be read by most Japanese people as Rikihittatsu, but in in the showa, it is read, Tsutomereba kanarazu tassu. This is a very unique way of reading this combination of characters which I believe does not exist outside of those familiar with the Chitō-Ryū system. As a style, Chitō-Ryū originated in 1956 when O Sensei opened his dojo the Yoseikan. But this philosophy has been with O Sensei for much longer as evidenced this photo of O Sensei in his younger years, teaching primary school children in Okinawa (1935). If you look closely, you can see up on the back wall these characters - (written right to left).
