ESC-35-2 (TSC) Anti-Exposure/Chem Bio Suit Adapter Testing & Evaluation Summary
ANY MISSION ANY ENSEMBLE The TSC (Through Suit Connector) option allows the integration of the AMXDmax Bladder Relief Device with any ensemble without compromising the garment s environmental seal integrity. The TSC enables bladder relief for any outfit, including environmentally sealed ensembles.
AMXDmax with TSC option overview The TSC (Through Suit Connector) option consists of three components in addition to the standard AMXDmax system. 1. ESC-35-2 Anti-Exposure/Chem Bio Suit Adapter 2. RHA-21B-B-2-12 M Internal Hose 3. RBU-40-2 M External Hose
Installation Toolkit (ESC-INST-2) The TSC Installation Toolkit contains everything needed to quickly and easily install the TSC into any compatible garment. Contents: TSC Press, Inner Fabric Clip, Outer Fabric Ring, Punch Base, Punch Guard, Fabric Punch, Installation Base, Lock Punch, TSC Connector (Black), TSC Lock (White or Black), Screw Punch, Torque Screwdriver - T6 Torx, 4x Lock Screws Installation 1. Pinpoint desired installation location 2. Clip on the Fabric Holding Clip & Retaining ring 3. Punch hole in fabric 4. Install the connector 5. Pull Test To ensure the TSC does not compromise the mechanical properties of a fabric/material. For testing, the fabric is strained from eight directions: vertical, horizontal, and both diagonals.
Depth Test Omni performs a 12 hour control test on fabric samples without the through suit connector installed to to determine the baseline performance of the material and its capability to remain waterproof under two meters of water pressure. Omni installs the TSC (ESC-35-2) in a dry sample and performs the 12 hour test. No water or precipitation is permitted through the fabric surrounding the TSC in a successful test. TSC Post Ejection TSC Post Ejection simulated water (pool) landing in full flight gear is conducted on every new IPG submitted for TSC qualification testing. After successful completion of in house fabric splash test and depth testing, Omni installs a TSC in the immersion suit and conducts in pool post ejection water landing tests. Tests include 10 water landings with ten minutes soak (float) time with each. Float tests with 2 to 4 hour durations are also conducted depending on the suit manufacturer specifications.
Splash Test The TSC was tested at the FMV Flight Physiological Center s test pool, where aircrew are trained for emergency situations in water. JAS 39 Grippen test pilots successfully conducted post ejection water landing tests of the TSC installed in the M7375-897 immersion suit while in full flight ensemble. Wind speeds of up to 40 m/s and waves up to half a meter with rain and darkness can be simulated in the pool, and the aircrew is trained as well for entering the raft and how to prepare for helicopter rescue operations.
Centrifuge Test The TSC was tested in the FMV Dynamic Flight Simulator (DFS). Test pilots used the AMXDmax with the TSC installed in the M7375-897 immersion suit while in full flight ensemble. The system was used multiple times over a period of two hours in the DFS while performing multiple 9 G maneuvers. All tests were supervised by flight medical experts and aircrew.
Chem/Bio Test Fixture To ensure that installing a TSC will not compromise the integrity of the material/fabric against airborne chemicals, Omni conducts testing with a CBRN Test Chamber that uses an ammonia vapor chamber and digital ammonia detector. Ammonia filled Sponges Ammonia Vapor Chamber
Chem/Bio Test A minimum exposure test of 12 hours (longer duration depending on specs) is performed where 0 ppm of ammonia is permitted to pass through either the baseline (without TSC installed) fabric or the fabric with TSC installed. The TSC is tailored specifically to each intended material thickness and properties.
Hanging Harness Test Tests showed that the AMXDmax systems presented no comfort issues, regardless of whether the Alignment Flaps were attached or removed. This feature was developed and tested as an option to accommodate differences in individual pilots anatomy. Using the IMCR-2-2 and IFP-15/16-2-2 with the standard hose through the flight suit zipper or with the internal hose connected to the TSC (Through Suit Connector) ESC- 35-2 Option both resulted in the same comfort rating as no cup or Pad at all.
Ingress / Cockpit Test The AMXDmax system is aircrew wearable. It is light weight (4 oz) and small enough to stow in G-suit shin or thigh pocket. Once the Pilot is securely buckled into their Ejection Seat Harness, the AMXDmax Hose with Quick Connect / Disconnect is easily connected to the Immersion or CBRN suit TSC. Depending on pilot preference, the AMXDmax can remain connected for the entire mission. Vimeo.com/99192421
Emergency Egress Test To prevent accidental disconnection, the connector requires greater than 10lbs of static (slow pull) force before the connector will release. To ensure the connector will release during emergency egress, only 4.6 lbs of dynamic (snap pull) force is required. Vimeo.com/99192421
Ejection Seat Test Conducted By NAVAIR Patuxent River NAVAIR successfully tested the AMXD-A and the Hose Quick Disconnect used in the AMXDmax TSC on Vertical Acceleration tower, 90 and 45 degree Wind Blast at 600 knots and Man Seat Separation at their facilities at Patuxent River.
Flight Tests The FMV Flight Test Centre (FC) conducted in-flight verification and validation testing of the AMXDmax with TSC option in JAS 39 Gripen single and dual seat aircraft. The FC conducted multiple flight tests of the AMXDmax with and without the TSC option installed. Pilots flew successful test missions specifically to test the TSC inflight use and performance. The TSC met contractual compliance and effectiveness throughout the T&E process.
