Finley Pony Club Combined Training Day The Finley Pony Club Combined Training Day was held on Sunday 21 st April 2013 and attracted an impressive 54 entries, some who came from places such as; Tocumwal, Cobram, Deniliquin, Corowa, Jerilderie, Chiltern, Lavington, Howlong, Numurkah, as well as a good representative of Finley riders. Deniliquin, provided the riders with jumping challenges to test the riders and horses courage and timing. The jumping judge for the day was Kathy Johnston and the pencillers were Kim Kelly and Kerry Lunn. The jumps were gradually raised in height, for each grade, until the very last exciting event, the Grade 1 competition, which saw Jill Lockhart and Shannon Kelly, two very talented local riders, pit their abilities against each other, in the final duel of the day, The crowd were all on the edge of their seats, as they watched the two horses fly over the incredibly high jumps in the exciting battle. The littlest riders were also catered for on the day, with them having their very own mini competition in the small sand arena, which began at 11.30am. The children were firstly presented with ten riding challenges, which were timed. The children could enter either the led class or the independent rider class, in both Pony Club and Open sections. They then had to ride over six small jumps. A great deal of fun was had by all these younger riders. A big thanks must go to the following members of the Finley Pony Club; Grace Ingram, Abbey Maconachie, Rachael & Jessica Butler, for judging and running this activity, the first time they had done so. The girls did a wonderful job. The day kicked off at 9am with the dressage component beginning in Arena One, starting with the Grade 5 riders, later the Grade 4 riders. The second dressage arena began at 10am with riders from Grades 3, 2 and 1. The riders each had to memorise a dressage test and perform the moments in either a 40 x 20 or 60 x 20 metre arena. Dressage Judges were; Miss Adrianna Morris, Janette Morris and Mrs Tina Bell and the rings were pencilled by Julie Maconachie, Adrianna Morris and Janette Morris. The show jumping competition commenced in the Helen Hendy arena at 10.30 am and provided an exciting spectacle, as the riders and horses attempted to negotiate a series of jumps, to try and achieve a clear round.
