Newsletter for September 11, 2016 From Kathy and Bob Estep, Swinging Stars Presidents: Start thinking about Sept. Lessons: Our next beginner lessons class will be September 13 th. That is this Tuesday. We need every member to start working on new student candidates NOW! Send your potential dancer contact information to Dan Mosher (dmosher5@verizon.net ) or to me at president@swingingstars.org and we will ensure they get a formal invitation from the Club. WE ALWAYS NEED ANGLES please bring your new students and help by assisting the new dancers. You might actually enjoy it! Our last several Club Dances have been very small; meaning a lot of Club Members are not attending. If you are unable to dance please let me know. If you can still dance we look forward to seeing you at the next dance. Read all the way to the end of the Newsletter as the Important Dates are starting to get filled in for the year. Kathy and Bob Happening This Week Tuesday, September 13 New Dancer Lessons Caprenter Rec Center Plano Friday, September 16 We are visiting our friends at Kissin Kuzzins for their Fall Fest Wayne Baldwin & J.L. In addition to hot dogs and the "fixings" provided, we are asking each couple to bring EITHER a salad OR a dessert to serve 10-12 people. Sign up sheets will be available at both September dances; or you can reach out to Lucy Hamm llhamm45@gmail.com Since this is our Double Deal Dance we are asking everyone in the Club to help!

2 nd VP Report 4 September 2016 Jim & Knarik Bondi RECENT ACTIVITY -- DANCING/TRAINING Club Dance: September 9, 2016 Caller Wayne Baldwin and cuer Walter Brewer treated 62 Swinging Stars and 7 guests to a wonderful evening of dancing on Friday night. Caller-in-training Richard Covington also called an excellent tip. During the workshop, Wayne taught the grand parade, a fun and challenging variation on the grand square which included square throughs and star throughs. Walter, as always, cued a fun and challenging selection of round dances, including a very nice slow two step. The after party at Austin Avenue Grill was attended by 17 Swinging Stars, 2 Texas Reelers, and an unaffiliated couple, Bob & Beth Goebev (potential members?!) who also attended the dance and appeared to have a great time. September 10 Diamond Jubileers Red Hat Dance Six Swinging Stars traveled to Swingtime Center to help the Diamond Jubileers celebrate their big Red Hat Dance. It also doubled (or tripled) as their Double Deal and Pre-Round-Up dance. There were lots of fancy red hats and Oktoberfest costumes. Karen Gloodt led off the evening with a full hour of early rounds featuring a good mixture of phase II III selections that all round dancers could dance and more challenging dances for the more experienced dancers. Then club caller Paul Kinsey teamed up with guest caller Deborah Carroll Jones for some great square dance calling. Both were appropriately costumed for the dance s red hat/oktoberfest theme. It was great to see and hear Paul looking and sounding strong after his recent health issues. Deborah called a very fun tip in which she gave a bow to Broadway singing Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets and having the dancers promenade in tango style. Karen continued her fine cueing between squares with a most enjoyable variety of waltzes, rumbas, cha chas, two steps, foxtrots, and jives. It was a great fun evening, and the Diamond Jubileers were excellent hosts to a crowd of 150+ dancers. Thanks to the Esteps, Hamms, and Sees for representing the Swinging Stars. RECENT ACTIVITY -- OTHER Miscellaneous Dancing Reports If you re a Swinging Star wanting to submit a SHORT report on a unique dancing visit that otherwise would not get covered here, please submit it to 2ndvp@swingingstars.org no later than mid Sunday afternoon for inclusion here in that night s newsletter. Try to include the names of fellow Swinging Stars who attended with you plus a few salient details (such as club, location, caller, cuer).
