Guided outdoor activities for the 50 plus age group WALKING AND NORDIC WALKING IN AND AROUND SURREY August - September 2017 The GO50 programme aims to introduce people in the 50+ age group to a healthier lifestyle and the benefits of regular exercise. Walking or cycling with others - socialising as you exercise - adds significantly to the beneficial effects. Regular exercise can: improve balance and flexibility; lower blood pressure; defend against heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes; help maintain cognitive function; reduce depression and anxiety. GO50 activities are free, but a donation is very welcome. We suggest a donation of 2 per person. If you are a taxpayer, we can reclaim the tax on your donations at no extra cost to you, as long as we have your signature and permission to claim Gift Aid. Ask the leader for details. No advanced booking required - just turn up at the start and join in. GO50 activities are led by experienced volunteers who will meet you at the start and lead the way. Please wear walking boots or other suitable footwear. All walks cross stiles unless otherwise noted. Bring water & a snack. No children or dogs, please. Use pub car parks only if you intend to use the pub afterwards. Please be aware of your own fitness levels and, if in doubt, consult your doctor before starting a new exercise programme. Postcodes given are nearest available to the start and may not correspond to the exact starting point. (T) indicates accessible by public transport. Travel information is available from Traveline on 0871 200 2233 or www.traveline.info In the event of extreme weather, phone the GO50 office or check the GO50 website before setting off (www.ageuk.org.uk/surrey/activities--events). Leaders reserve the right to cancel or amend an activity if they feel that it is unsafe to proceed. For Nordic Walking, please bring along your own poles. You will need to have attended a Nordic Walking training course prior to participating in a GO50 Nordic Walk. To express interest in attending a training course organised by Age UK Surrey, please contact 01483 446624. Please take into consideration the distance and description of the walk and if you require assistance with walking, please contact GO50 prior to attending. All walkers walk at their own risk. We recommend that all participants carry personal identification and emergency contact details with them in case of emergency. For further information about the GO50 programme or if you are interested in becoming a volunteer activity leader, phone 01483 446624; email go50@ageuksurrey.org.uk; write to GO50, Age UK Surrey, Rex House, William Road, Guildford GU1 4QZ or visit our website at www.ageuk.org.uk/surrey/activities--events
