The Inside Edge A P u b l i c a t i o n o f t h e N e w a r k S k i C l u b Ski with the Best Newark Ski Club Meetings Where: The Winery @ Otter Creek 5291 Bennington Chapel Rd. Johnstown, OH When: Social Hour 6:00 PM Club Meeting 7:00 PM Our September Membership meeting had a great turn out. It was good to see some old and new faces. Thank you to Kathy Kern for all her hard work at providing dinner and getting everyone s membership applications processed and membership cards to our members. We re looking forward to a great year with lots of fun activities both on the snow and off. This past month had a couple of great activities. I heard that Put in Bay was a lot of fun and several of us are zip lining across the Hocking Hills. Just because summer is coming to an end does not mean we won t be doing lots of fun things. Since fall is officially here and the leaves are beginning to change, the board thought this would be a great time to get out and enjoy the view at The Winery at Otter Creek again. Our October meeting will be held at The Winery at Otter Creek, 5291 Bennington Chapel Rd., Johnstown, OH. We will start socializing (i.e. drinking wine) at 6:00 pm with a meeting around 7:00 pm. We re asking everyone to bring an appetizer to share. For those of you who did not make it to our last meeting held there, it is a beautiful place on a small lake. We re hoping that the leaves will be in full color and we ll be able to be out on the deck. But if the weather is bad they also have a large indoor area. See everyone there! Page OCTOBER 4 2009 4 BIG and I mean Really BIG Ski Raffle How would you like to take a Colorado ski vacation for only $10.00? Well I'm going to tell you how you can go to Colorado, or get a 45 min. massage, or ski at Snow Trails all season long, or get over $100.00 worth of ski equipment, or get lift tickets to several area ski resorts. Put-In-Bay & Camping Weekend Recap Couldn t ask for a better weekend with the weather. Our wine & cheese party went along with Mark Miller s 60th birthday party. Our bicycling was better than ever. The Putt-Putt was wild with Lee Curry ending up in the water twice trying to get his ball. Continued on pg 5. The secret is no secret at all. Just get in touch with your Director-at-Large, Tim Crowley, and tell him you want to buy a $10.00 Big Raffle Ticket or better yet a book of 6 for $50.00. We have sold 54 tickets so far and our limit is 300 so we are about 20% sold out. Please help to sell all 300 tickets. This is a great opportunity for you to participate in the Biggest Ski Raffle in the history of NCS. See me at the meeting or give me a call to get some raffle tickets to offer to your friends, family, and co-workers. Note: Grand Prize winner has the option to take a cash equivalent of the Grand Prize. You never know where the next new member will come from. A long, long time ago at the first meeting I ever attended Jerry Swank sold me the winning ticket for a pair of really long, really skinny skis w/poles & bindings. Skied with those dinosaurs for about 8 years and have had fun telling the story for 15 yrs. As an added incentive, the member who sells the most tickets will receive special recognition and a really great token of appreciation from The Newark Ski Club. Please see me at the meeting or call me for all the details. Tim Crowley Director-At-Large Hi Folks, Joe s Activity Report I hope everyone has had an enjoyable summer and had fun on the ski club trips and events. The Put-In-Bay campout was a lot of fun and it seems that the water fights from the Mohican canoe trip in August continued into ice fights at the pub on Put-In-Bay in September!!!! The island has calmed down to a roar with kids back in college. The Zip line trips were awesome!!! We have made trips to Spruce Hill next door to Snowtrails (Jan 8, 2010 monthly meeting location) and to Seven Springs Ski Resort in PA (tentatively the last weekend in Feb). We will have handouts for the October monthly meeting. October has events and the cruise!!! Bon Voyage!!! Actually we are hanging loose on the cruise. Last year in the Eastern Med cruise we wanted to visit all the historic sites so we had to get up very early to catch 730am buses!!! This cruise we are getting up at the Crack of Noon!!! LOL, LOL, LOL!!! pax and cheers, judojoe joe d phillips activities
