Riding Changes: Race 1: L Henry replaced P King (ill) Race 3: C O Brien replaced P King Race 5: G Buckley replaced C Bishop (overweight Fined $100 (AR120b) Race 1: Maiden Handicap 900m Hey Billy Boy was hampered and became unbalanced, then shifted out abruptly near the 200m. Dia Vernon slow to begin. Barbarobba slow to begin. My Christiane was hampered passing the 200m. Notary slow to begin. So Dizzy slow to begin. Assergi slow to begin, then experienced difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 200m and ran wide under pressure over the concluding stages. Race 2: 3YO Maiden Plate 1100m Barricade hung in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Cristal Lulu a post-race veterinary certificate revealed the filly was lame in the near fore leg. Trainer Mr. P Bloomfield was advised that prior to racing again Cristal Lulu must undergo a veterinary examination to determine its fitness.
Dreamnomore raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight. Liberty Pride crowded at the start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. Lusitania began awkwardly. Sojournist began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. Suaveness missed the start (2L), and then raced fiercely during the middle stages. Race 3: Maiden Plate 1400m Commandatore hung in when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had sustained an abrasion to its offside hock. Red Knot the rider S Lisnyy was reprimanded (AR137A (4) (g)) for applying the whip inside the 200m when his mount was winning clearly. Solid North slow to begin. Ceaseless raced with its head up when being steadied passing the 1000m. Chappy s Dream hung in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Ticket To Riches began awkwardly then was checked and lost ground when momentarily crowded passing the 700m. Too Much Champagne trainer Mr. D Piper was advised that a warning for poor performance would be placed on the filly s racing record. Race 4: Benchmark 60 Handicap 1600m St Luke when questioned in relation to the performance D Jones explained that his mount failed to travel at any stage and weakened when placed under pressure in the home straight. Stable representative Ms. M Dennett said that blood tests would be taken with the results provided to the stewards prior to a decision being made on a continued racing preparation. Trainer Mr. L Davies subsequently advised (20/2/17) that the gelding would be transferred from his stable.
Slippery Eel slow to begin. Colour Of Love had to be steadied and shifted in when improving near the 100m to avoid Secret Web (C Bishop), which shifted out under pressure, whilst being ridden along. C Bishop was subsequently reprimanded (AR137a). Race 5: Class 1 Handicap 1400m Stannis Baratheon when questioned in relation to the performance G Ryan explained that his mount failed to travel at any stage of the race and was disappointing in its finishing effort. He added that in his opinion the gelding would be more suited on slow to heavy racing surfaces. A postrace veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. Siostra when questioned in relation to the performance R Thompson explained that after being tardy at the start his mount was unable to go forward from the outside barrier as instructed, failed to travel at any stage despite his vigorous efforts and was unresponsive throughout. Stable representative Mr. M Ollerton confirmed the intention to be prominent in the early stages and said blinkers would now be added to the filly s racing gear, with the distance of her races at country venues increased and whoever rode Siostra in future, instructed to go forward early if possible. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. Race 6: Class 1 Handicap 1100m Ubatuba the rider G Ryan was reprimanded (AR137A (5) (ii)) for applying the whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m. Cleeve Hill had to be steadied when crowded passing the 650m. Race 7: Benchmark 65 Handicap 900m Alliterate refused to parade the final 50 Metres of the parade to the start and was led rider less to the barriers by the Clerk Of The course. Trainer Mr. P Farrell was advised that due to the filly s history I this regard, should it behave similarly in future it would be withdrawn. Slow to begin. Pelerine raced fiercely when being restrained in the early stages in accordance with instructions. Race 8: Class 4 Handicap 1300m Recife Beach when questioned in relation to his ride in the early stages, S Lisnyy explained that he had intended to go forward, however his mount was tardy and despite his vigour did not muster early speed. He said that
he gained a favorable run throughout the race and when taken to the outside of the field at the entrance to the hoe straight, the gelding responded well and ran to the finish strongly. Sassaby T Green the rider of Whirlwind Ascent, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding (AR137a), in that after obtaining clear running inside the 100m he rode his mount outwards when insufficiently clear of Sassaby, which was crowded onto Exitozo and had to be checked. T Green s license to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence 22/2/17 and expire 28/2/17, on which day he may resume. Art D Amour slow to begin. Dan Roy weakened from the 150m. Trainer Mr. L Davies undertook to provide blood test results prior to a decision being made on the gelding s future racing program. Whirlwind Ascent unable to obtain clear running from the entrance to the home straight until the 100m, resulting in the gelding not being fully tested. Summary of whip use: Race 3: S Lisnyy Race 6: G Ryan Reprimanded (AR137A (4) (g)) Considering the totality of whip use (9 strikes before the 100m and 1 strike thereafter) reprimanded General: Swab samples were taken from all winners.
