THE BOYS OF FALL The month of October has been very kind to the Sabres in recent years. In fact, Buffalo hasn t posted a losing record in the first month of the season since 2002-03 (3-5-2). Since the 2005-06 season, Buffalo s October record of 37-13-4 (.722) is second only to Detroit s 40-13-7 (.725). This includes their 10-0-1 start in 2006, and an 8-2-1 run to open last season. LET S PLAY TWO Tonight s game concludes the first of Buffalo s league-high 22 sets of back-to-back games this season. The Sabres played 18 sets of back-to-back games last season. They were 11-5-2 in the first games, and 6-9-3 in the second. They swept four sets, and were swept on three occasions. In the other 11 sets they: earned 3 points three times; 2 points six times; and picked up a single point twice. SAY HELLO TO THE 40 TH ANNIVERSARY JERSEY Buffalo s new 40 th anniversary third jersey makes its game action debut tonight, after previously being unveiled at an open practice on September 18. This will now serve as the team s alternate third jersey, and will be worn 12 times this season at HSBC Arena. This classically-designed uniform is a tribute to not only the history of Buffalo hockey, but early NHL jersey designs of the past. The jersey will next be worn on November 3 vs. Boston.

SCHEDULE BREAKDOWN Buffalo opens the season playing six games in nine days, including four of their first five at home. October is one of the four months this season that has the Sabres playing 12 games. March is the team s busiest month with 16 games (7/9) in 31 days. Over the first 11 weeks of the season, Buffalo will play back-to-back Friday/Saturday games nine times including the first five weeks in a row. THE IRON MAN Jason Pominville enters tonight s game as the team s active leader in consecutive games played at 334. Pominville has played in all 82 games in each of the last four seasons, and has the NHL s fifth longest active ironman streak. He hasn t missed a game since being a healthy scratch vs. Philadelphia on April 7, 2006.
