Page 4 Course description The course will take in the best bits of the Meehan Range trails. Expect some decent climbs along with epic descents. Distance: One lap is approximately 25km Sections Start Fire Trail The race will start in the Clarence MTB Park. The starting kilometre will have some open fire trails to enable passing before entering the first major climb. Clarence Climb Flowing climbing through mixed forest with multiple switch backs. Clarence Descent Halfway up the climb the downhill and up trail virtually touch. Here the race track crosses onto the downhill to fly back down into the Clarence Mtb Park bowl. Clarence Mtb Park to Belbins Flow along the trails that run next to the Tasman highway. This twisting single track will be fast and furious. Ride Bill s Back Door all the way to the entrance to the Meehan Range Recreation Area.
Page 5 Stringy Bark Gully Trails A great mix of twisting single trails and fast open fire trails will take you deep into Stringy Bark Gully. Return towards the mid way feed station via one of the original trails in Stringy Bark Gully. This descent ducks in and out of the trees and across open sections. Belbins Feed Station The feed station in Belbins will enable you to take on another biddon or grab some food. There will be water available, but it is best to send your own supplies round to Belbins. Feed station to Golden Hill Another solid climb to Golden Hill awaits. Once again elevation is gained by negotiating a series of switch back climbs and fire trails. Skyline Fire Trail to Birthday loop Two choices here: 1. Knock it back through the gears and spin this open section out 2. Drop the hammer and pass as many people as you can before the next bit of single track. Birthday Loop Wicked fast, flowing downhill leads into a twisty climb with some tight corners. The newest section of the Birthday Loop has bypassed a sketchy down hill with some fresh single trail.
Page 6 String Bark Gully By Pass Roar down the fire trail into the saddle at the top of String Bark Gully Trail. Here a new piece of trail follows the contour of the hill to cut out a nasty wall of a climb. String Bark By Pass to Cliff Top Track. Open, fun fire trail takes you to the head of the Cliff Top Track. Once again cruise and take a small rest or pass some people in front before the next section of single track. Cliff Top Quite possibly the most photographed view from a trail in Hobart. Admire the view, but not so much that you start to turn towards it. Clarence Descent to finish line A prime example of the new style of flow down hill trail. This trail features massive berms that fire you out faster than you went in. Half way down the trail the race track will switch back to climbing up hill. A brief climb will bring you to the newly revamped down hill. More excellent berms will bring you back down to the Clarence bowl and the fly over bridge. The entire descent into Clarence from the Skyline Firetrail is on single trail! No more gnarly fire trail. Yay! (Extensive rock armouring has been undertaken to improve several tight switch back corners).
Page 7 RACE ETIQUETTE Passing If you wish to pass another rider please do so on a safe section of trail. Call track and the side you wish to pass on to the rider in front of you. Injuries If you come across an injured rider who is in need of medical assistance please stop to lend them what ever aid you can.
