The Roswell Gun Club Incorporated 1961 www.roswellgunclub.com Range Owners since January 28, 2005 Post Office Box 1482 Roswell, N. M. 88202 Newsletter August, Sept 2011 THE FIRST SUNDAY MATCHES, 6-3-12 By James Cravener, Match Director We just had two Cowboy 22 Shooters today and they were both unclassified. Sam and Bob Jenkins drove up from Clovis to try their luck with both.22 rifle and small bore pistol. Sam won over Bob in both. Mike Borem won the Cowboy Low Power Match with the score of 27. Mike Russo took AAA Class with 26, Bob Elder won AA Class with 21, Ron Young won A Class with 13, and Andee Maness won B Class with 12. Besides myself, others out today were Alan Bloomer, Scotty Davis, Ernie Edmonston, and Bob Beeson. At the Regular Low Power Match, 6-2-12 REGULAR LOW POWER MATCH 06/02/12 Once again the scope shooters out numbered the iron sight shooters by better than two to one. In the iron sight category Scott Davis took top honors with a score of 32. Scott used a Sako chambered for the 22-PPC to take 8 chickens, 8 pigs, 8 turkeys and 8 rams. His load was an RCBS 55 grain bullet ahead of 15 grains AA-2200. Other winners were; Ernie Edmonston Master- score 30, Jim Pruett-AAAscore 25, Ron Young-AA-score 22, and Susan Odell-A-score 13. In the scope category Alan Bloomer won overall with a score of 36. Alan used a Remington 700 chambered for the 222 Remington to take 9 chickens, 10 pigs, 8 turkeys, and 9 rams. Alan s load was an RCBS 55 grain cast bullet ahead of 12 grains AA-2200. Other winners were; Ernie Lewis-Master-score 34, Bob Elder-AAA- score 29, Jerry King 2 nd AAA-score 28, and Jim Montgomery-A-score 23. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lite than Kay. BENCH REST CHICKEN SILHOUETTE MATCH 6-9-12 By Bill Kennedy Match Director We had good weather, but the changing wind conditions made it a fun match. We had a smaller crowd this month with ten shooters. Again we used the 40 meter chickens for the 200 meter distance, but James Cravener also completed the modifications on the targets for the 300 meter distance, they now measure 5 x 4. In all we had a good match. Ernie Edmonston did the best job and won over all. Ernie shot a 36 using a Savage model 12 Bench Rest chambered in 308 shooting a 155 Palma and 47 grains of Varget. Master class winner was Carroll Hargrove with 27. The AAA winner was Bob Elder with 35. Alan Bloomer was 2 nd AAA. The AA class winner was Jim Pruett. Please make sure to say thank you to James Cravener for all the target work he has done for this match and all the others. Thank you to all the people that shot the match and the guys who came out to watch. I also want to thank the new shoots that came out and the shooters that drove in just for this match.

COWBOY 30-30 MATCH, 6-13-12 Only 8 of us out today, the weather wasn t all that bad, but gusty breezes were a nuisance. As proof, nobody broke the score of 30 and no 10 in a row pins were earned. Also, only two 5-in-a-row pins were earned. Ernie Lewis was able to come up with the most hits, 29, that included 7 chickens, 8 pigs, 7 turkeys, and 7 rams. Ernie used a Marlin 336 in the good ole 30-30 caliber, a 150 gr. RCBS cast bullet, and 22.0 gr. of AA 2200. I took AAA honors with 25, Bob Elder won AA Class with 22, and Mike Borem won A Class along with a promotion to AA with 26. The holders of the proverbial stinky end of the stick were Virdis Isler, Sonny Odell, Scotty Davis, and Ron Young. CAST BULLET, LOW POWER 06-16-12 We had a nice warm day today, a little breezy, but nothing that we could really complain about. B class was won by Jerry Newman with 15. We would like to see a few more shooters come out and enjoy our matches. We had 15 shooters here today, over half being from the Clovis area. The weather cooperated pretty well with just moderate breezes. Alan Bloomer took top honors today with his trusty Marlin model 1894 in.357 Magnum. Alan used a Lyman 358156 bullet of 158 gr. and 14.5 gr. H108 to knock off a total of 31 targets, 9 chickens, 8 pigs, 7 turkeys, and 7 rams. Scotty Davis won AAA Class with 28, Don Upham took AA Class with 28, Ron Young took A Class with 24, and Zane Runyan took Unclassified with 19. We had two Junior Shooters, Garrett Baldock took A Class with 18, and Ethan Baldock to B Class with 9. O.F. DENNIS SULLIVAN 22 MATCH 7-25-12 It s been since about March or April since we have had decent weather for this match and today was a good one. There were just enough breezes to keep the temps down some. I was afraid that the wind was going to get up again, but it didn t for once. We also had 25 slots filled although Sam and Bob Jenkins, from Clovis, each shot both iron sights and scopes. Of the 25 signed up, 9 were using iron sights, and 16 were using scopes. It took a shoot-off between Ernie Lewis and Steve Halvorson to determine the winner of the Scope Match, each having scored 33. Ernie took it which left Steve the AAA Class winner. Tom Hargrove slipped between the cracks to take home Master Class with 30. Mike Borem was right behind and won AA Class with 32. One more AAA Score and Mike won t have to worry about AA Class. Caleb Halvorson won A Class with 27, Harry Telesco won B Class with 14, and Sam Jenkins won Unclassified with 27. I won the Iron Sight Match with the score of 31. Bob Beeson won AAA Class with 26, O. L. Adcock won AA Class with 23, and Sam Jenkins won Unclassified with 26. There were no other classes represented in the Iron Sight portion. Hopefully, we can have as much fun next month with the weather being equally nice. 5 TH SUNDAY MATCH, 7-29-12 By Carroll Hargrove, Match Director Long Range Pistol, Range 3. We shot 50, 100, 150 & 200 meters (bench rest) at the ¼ size targets today. Six shooters showed up and 5 shot the match. We shot a 40 round match and it was a lot of fun on a nice day. We had a tie between Bill Hamilton and Tom Hargrove, both with a score of 38. For the shoot off we moved the small chickens out to 150 meters and they both shot 5 in a row. Next we moved the small chickens out to 200 meters and Bill won the match and took home all the cash. Bill was shooting a T/C in 6 mm. Other shooters and scores were Alan Boomer with 37, Ernie Edmonston scored 34, & Carroll Hargrove also scored 34. We have 5 Sundays in September this year and we would love to have more shooters in show up. We have a great club, and in November let s vote to protect our rights. Thanks to those that come out to shoot and helped to haul and set targets. May God bless America! Shoot-off at Bench Rest Pistol Match, 7-29-12
