Dear BCB Families, What a wonderful and productive 30th year we have had at BCB! From the Grand Opening of our beautiful new Dance Annex space to our Gala performance at the Palace Theater in April we couldn t have asked for a better way to celebrate our 30th Birthday! Our annual Season Finale performance will be on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at 3:00 and 5:30 pm at the Westover School in Middlebury. The Season Finale is a celebration of both our students and the vibrant dance community that we cultivate at Brass City Ballet. Season Finale, rather than be just a dance recital, is an educational opportunity for both the children and the audience. An important element of a child s dance education is to observe the older dancers. Therefore, the students will sit in the theater so they can enjoy the performance and inspire each other. Each show will be approximately 1 1/2 hours in length. (More details on Season Finale on page 2.) Please mark the following dates on your calendar: LMES/MES Day at Quassy BCB will be performing at Quassy Amusement Park on Middlebury Day, Thursday, May 26 @ 6:30. Stop by to support us and cheer on your favorite dancers. Middlebury Public Library We will also be performing at the library on Thursday, June 2 at 6:30 pm. Spring Semester There are no classes on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, 2016. Spring Semester continues until June 11, 2016. Pre Professional Intensive (ages 10 & up) (entering B2 E levels) runs July 25th August 12 th. This is an in depth study of ballet, variations, jazz, zumba and modern dance on a pre professional level! Guest teachers from New York and throughout the country will be coming to BCB to teach. Students (except BCB Company) will sit with their class in the audience to watch the performance and be called to the stage when it is their turn to perform. (BCB students performing do not pay for tickets.) Parent volunteers are required to purchase a ticket. Video Essenelle Studios will professionally videotape our Season Finale this year! Also, there is still time to purchase a Nutcracker or Gala DVD. Please visit www.essennellestudios.com. Stage Rehearsal Each class will perform one dance in the show. Rehearsals will take place at Westover on Saturday, June 11th. Dancers should be in dance class attire. Please meet in the lobby of the theater. Refer to the attached sheet to see when your child's class is scheduled. We ask that parents do not enter the theater while their children are practicing onstage as this becomes very loud and distracting to the dancers. Your child s teacher will meet the students in the lobby and escort them to the stage. At the same time, a BCB Faculty member will be meeting with the parents to orient them to the stage and format of this performance. Please make every effort to be at this rehearsal so your child has the opportunity to practice on stage. If your child is unable to attend Stage Rehearsal, please notify their teacher ASAP. We will need two parent volunteers per class to sit with the children during the show. Please speak to your child s teacher if you are available to assist. Performance Details Please arrive one half hour prior to performance to allow time to change your child into costume and get him/her settled. When you arrive at the theater, please bring your child downstairs to the dressing rooms. After they are dressed in costume, parent volunteers will bring the dancers to their designated seating area in the audience. Parent volunteers sit and watch the show, so they are required to purchase a ticket. The Parent volunteer s will be sitting with and supervising your children. We ask that your child stays seated with their class during the show. After the performance ends, please pick your child up from the assigned seating area and bring them downstairs to the costume room to change them back into their street clothes and return the costumes to the rack in the dressing room. Costumes do not go home. What should my child wear to the performance? Unless otherwise noted, all ballet classes should have on a skin colored camisole leotard (except Dance Discovery), pink tights & pink ballet shoes. NO CLEAR STRAPS ON CAMISOLE LEOTARDS, PLEASE.Please put your child s hair in a neat bun with all wispy hair sprayed and gelled back and a hair net. Costumes Brass City Ballet is proud that we do not ask parents to pay an expensive costume fee. Please note that all costumes supplied by Brass City Ballet are the property of the Ballet and MUST be returned to the costume rack in the Dance Studio downstairs after the performance. Please do not take costumes home. All dancers are asked to wear a skin colored camisole leotard under their costume for hygienic purposes (except Dance Discovery). BCB has a limited number of camisoles for sale. Please speak to Mrs. McMahon (BCB s Wardrobe Mistress) if your child needs a camisole. They can also be purchased at any dance store in the area. NO CLEAR STRAPS are permitted on camisoles if they show with your child s costume. Please note, parents are responsible for overseeing your child s quick changes. It is best to put lipstick on after dressing so we do not stain the costumes. Costumes must be returned to the assigned rack after the performance and may not be taken home. If your child s costume is not returned, a $100 fee will be charged to your account. Please, NO eating or drinking in costume (except water). BCB will be selling roses for $5 each.
