A Grilling Enthusiast s Dream Weekend EXECUTIVE CHEF BEN JONES calls Montana Master Grillers his quintessential event, and I m in complete agreement. It s my job to bring together a group of chefs, vintners, brewers, distillers and musicians that our guests will be talking about for years to come, and I had great fortune assembling the participants for MMG 2017. Our featured chefs included revered, legendary pit masters as well as virtuoso celebrity chefs. Ben Jones, Beau MacMillan, Charlie McKenna, Wayne Mueller and Jonathon Sawyer absolutely wowed us with their grilling expertise and their epicurean mastery. Our guests saw their exemplary techniques up-close and were able to interact with the chefs personally as well. Dennis Cakebread, Ben Johnson and Molly Thorvilson helped us wash everything down with their delicious wine, beer and spirits, jovially answering our questions about how to pair the perfect wine and beer and make outstanding cocktails. The music was top-notch as well, with Missoula s Shane Clouse and MudSlide Charley and the awardwinning Trout Steak Revival. We at Paws Up would sincerely like to thank our featured participants and, most importantly, those of you who traveled to The Resort for MMG. We re already working on putting together a Master Grillers for 2018 that will have you polishing up your BBQ tools and packing your bags in mouthwatering anticipation. MMG IS MY QUINTESSENTIAL EVENT. We bring together really cool and talented chefs (even downright friendly), plan fun menus that we like to cook and then we actually get to cook in front of people! The event brings out the best in chefs: our need to make people happy while we get to do what we love. That rarely happens! It was my first trip to Montana, and I definitely hope it won t be my last. Paws Up was truly mesmerizing from all the physical beauty to the endless list of activities and more importantly the incredibly hospitable team of people you have working there. FOR ME, PART OF THE DRAW for the weekend is the beautiful landscape and area where Paws Up is located. Very peaceful horizon. Then when the wonderful BBQ and other food get added into the mix, it makes for an outstanding experience. I like to reflect over some nice ribs or steak while sipping a glass of my new Washington project called Mullan Road Cellars. It s a red Bordeaux blend and, candidly, part of the attraction is that the original Mullan Road runs through Missoula and still exists in many parts of Montana, Idaho and Washington.
