April 11, 2017 Volume 15 Issue 16 TITAN TRIBUNE Dear Coulson Tough Families, We are so proud of our Coulson Tough DI team who competed in the state competition! The DI team Seven Emoji s won 1st place and are headed to DI World competition in May! We wish them the best of luck! Members of the CT Titan Band competed at the CISD Solo and Ensemble Contest this past Saturday, April 8. Our students earned a total of 49 medals!! Congratulations DI Team! Tough's Got Talent Show 2017 Registration is now open for any 5 th and 6 th grader! They may perform a solo act or with a group. Auditions will be held after school on Thursday, May 11 and our finalists will perform on May 18 at 6:00pm! Application and Guidelines will be available at front desk, on CT website, or directly from Mrs. Stiles. Congratulations to Coulson Tough and the Seven Emojis for placing first at the State Destination Imagination Tournament in Lubock on April 8, 2017. They will be competing at the DI World Tournament in Tennessee this May. The team members, pictured left to right, are: Abigail Each, Rhett Hollier, Wiley Sadlier, Shivani Mundra, Hannah Langrae, Gage Gwynne and Paige Deischl. Great job team, we are all very proud of Coulson Tough Scholarships We are very proud to announce that the 2017 Coulson Tough Scholarships have been awarded to Jordan Stirlink, Catherine Seelig and Marwan Elzarka. Congratulations! Titan Book Share The spring trip to Conroe for the Titan Book Share will be here before we know it. We are continuing to collect new and slightly used books for this biannual activity. Books can be given to home base teachers or dropped off in Mrs. Stiles room. Everyone is welcome to come and see our talented kids! Tickets will be sold at the door for $5 per person. All proceeds from our show will go towards our CT Scholarship Fund for next year! Please participate or attend and support our students! For more details, please contact Becky Stiles at rstiles@conroeisd.net Gifted and Talented Testing Nominations for summer GT Testing will be open April 1 - April 28, 2017. Summer testing will be held at Mitchell Intermediate June 6 - June 8, 2017 from 8:30am to 11:00am. Nominations may be made by parents and/or teachers. If you are interested in nominating your child, you may want to discuss this with your child's teacher. Nominations will be accepted through April 28th, 2017. You may request a nomination form through the front office or Mrs. McGhee. You can also find the nomination form and other GT information on the CISD GT homepage. Important Information To report an absence for your child, please call the front office at 281-465-5900. When your child returns to school, a note explaining the reason for the absence should be sent to the teacher or brought to the front office. School attendance is a major indicator of student success. Please schedule vacations during holidays and make every effort to schedule appointments after school. Attendance letters will be sent in accordance with CISD policy. Students must be present 90% of all school days to be promoted to the next grade. Students should attend school every day unless ill. ATTENDANCE MORNING HOURS Announcements begin @ 8:00am and school begins at 8:05am. Students should not arrive before 7:35am at which time they may go to the Commons. Students go to their classrooms at 7:45am and class activities begin. TUTORING If your child is scheduled for morning tutoring or enrichment, he or she must enter the building through the front doors. MEDICATION AT SCHOOL A parent or guardian must bring medication and sign it into the clinic. All medication must be in the original container and properly labeled. TARDY/LATE ARRIVAL Students arriving to school after 8:05am are considered tardy. Students must stop at the front desk for a tardy pass. A parent should come into the school with the student to sign him/her in for the day. A student is considered absent if they arrive after 9:00am. If your child is arriving late to school due to a health care appointment, please come into the front office with your child and provide the doctor s note to ensure your child s attendance can be changed to HCP for Health Care Professional which is Present. Birthday treats must be store bought due to allergy, safety and sanitation concerns. All items must be pre-cut. Most grades share these treats with the class the last 10 minutes of their lunch period. Please email your child s teacher to verify the best time. Balloons and flowers are not permitted in the building. BIRTHDAY TREATS VISITOR PARKING Visitor parking is located in the large parking lot off of Crane Brook Drive. Please do not park in the front of the building or in the fire lanes. PARENT LUNCH TABLE We have a table set up specifically for parents and their children to sit together. Friends are not permitted to sit with your child at the parent table. A parent plus two others is the maximum number who can come join a student for lunch due to space limitations in our cafeteria. TRANSPORTATION CHANGES All transportation changes must be received in writing with parent/guardian s signature to your child s teacher in their blue folder. Please limit any other changes after the day begins to emergencies and contact the front office prior to 2:00pm. SEVERE WEATHER DISMISSAL At the beginning of school, parents completed a Severe Weather Dismissal Procedures form indicating how their child would go home in the event of Severe Weather. During periods of rain, biker/walkers will be released as normal. When the area is under a severe weather threat (this includes lightning/thunder) as determined by the National Weather Service, a Severe Weather Dismissal will be called. Please register for Remind 101. You will be notified by text when there is a Severe Weather Dismissal. REMIND 101 CHARACTER DAY/SPIRIT DAY Wednesday Character Day-wear a CT character shirt! Friday-Spirit Day-wear a Coulson Tough shirt! We love CT! You can order these on the Coulson Tough PTO website. Applications due: May 8th. Must have all lyrics/cd and permission form for each person in group! 2. Audition Date: Thursday, May 11th, beginning at 3:30pm in the commons. Order of auditions done by random drawing. All auditions are closed auditions. This means people that aren t part of the act aren t allowed to be present during the audition. Finalists will be notified end of school day, Friday, May 12 th! 3. Final Performance: Thursday, May 18th, at 6:00pm. Ticket price at door - $5 per person! Everyone is welcome! 2nd Annual Race for Awareness Focus: Foster Care Love Fosters Hope Saturday, April 29th Coulson Tough K-6 School Race for Awareness activities begin at 8:00am! Visit the yellow boutique and yellow hair spray booth to get decked out in yellow to shine on the pathways as you run or walk to raise awareness of foster care! Tickets for the $1 kids raffle will be on sale and Chick-fil-A will be selling breakfast items so you can fuel up before the race begins. The event is pet friendly, so register your dog too! Please bring cash for all purchases at the event. After the race, celebrate crossing the finish line with delicious yellow cupcakes & lemonade, visit the fire truck, enjoy items from HEB and cheer for race and raffle winners. 100% of the proceeds from our event will be donated to Love Fosters Hope. To register, turn in your registration form to Coulson Tough Elementary or visit Coulson Tough s website and click on the Race for Awareness icon: http://tough.conroeisd.net/ Registration continues until the morning of the race!
