President s Report I have much pleasure in presenting the President s Report for the year ending March 2019 and thank members for the honour of being your President since the single Golf Club was formed in July 2011. Club Banora competition Golf saw massive change during the first half of the 2010s decade. A Constitution was approved that brought the three separate competitions together. A 'male' President, a 'female' Vice President, three Captains along with male and female representatives were key elements of the amalgamation. The new administration introduced a comprehensive communication program which was initially based on a one-page flyer call Beyond the Fairways. Over 100 editions of the Newsletter were produced and gave all golfers the opportunity to know what was happening. Major change also occurred with technology and progressively scorecards were computer printed, golfers input their scores at touch screens, a website was introduced with on-line tee time booking and the handwritten Pro Shop booking sheet was eliminated. Competition results and information blogs appeared on the website and members saw modernised leader board screens with daily Hole-In-One, Eagles, Birdies, NTPs and the Pro Pin. Sponsor promotion also appeared on the leader boards and Next-To-Tee details on screen outside the Pro Shop. In early 2014 the lengthy dry precipitated the most dramatic change, closure of the central 9 Holes. Golf Club membership immediately reduced by about one hundred and remains around that number - 345. Our Veterans also experienced change as their group became gender neutral. By contrast, the back half of the decade was one of consolidation with less substantial change until the recent move to electronic prizes. Throughout the decade the Club was led by dedicated Vice Presidents, Secretaries, Captains and Representatives. Importantly the Club has been continuously served by an exceptional Treasurer who provides both the strategic and operational money management allowing the Club to be in the financially strong position it is today. Sub Committees are also a critical element of our administration. I again, thank all the Management Committee and Sub Committee members who across the decade, have collectively contributed to the benefits of being a Club Banora golfer. Twin Towns provides considerable assistance to its internal clubs and Golf has enjoyed these benefits both in administrative support and with funds. The Pro Shop and the Island House are an integral part of day to day enjoyment of Golf. The Club is very fortunate to have a dedicated Greens Team as course quality has substantial impact on every golf round. Thank you for the Twin Towns support and assistance. Sponsors make a difference with the running of clubs and other bodies. Our major sponsor North Estate, provides a significant financial contribution to the Club each year and I know first-hand serves golfers well when we buy, sell or manage property. Thank you North. The new Committee has a firm administrative base to build on. I congratulate Brenton for coming forward as the new President and wish him and incoming Committee members well as they guide the Golf Club into the new decade. I hope you have the most favourable circumstances to manage and that our course receives steady rain in the years ahead. I thank all the members who have supported me as President and recognise that it is the members who make our Club what it is. You are the major strength participating in competitions, setting the tone of comradery and contributing to our finances by supporting raffles and donating prizes for competitions and major functions. It is a pleasure to a golfer at Club Banora. Ken Culpitt President 5

Men s Captain Report This year has flown by very quickly. There have been many changes and one particular change still in progress. The perceived changing of the fifth/fourteen hole to a par three to alleviate mishit golf balls going into adjoining property. Discussion has taken place to alter the seventh to a par four, and at this stage no final decision has been made. During the year our normal championships were held and the winners were A Grade B Grade C Grade Club Champion A Hubbard K Mount G Scott Foursomes Div 1 A Hubbard/ M Kemp Foursomes Div 2 Medal of Medals Match Play Winner J Wood/ G Clarke B Springfield J Cardoo Hole in One - Congratulations go to all members who achieved a hole in one during the year. We had three teams in the Pennant series and we had two wins. All teams went to the finals which is an achievement in itself. Thank you to all Pennant players who participated. Our membership continues to grow, and we have had an average of 72 players. The number sometimes goes to 100, which slows down the field considerably, but great to see. Sunday s have been well supported and I thank Rosie Connolly for her input to the running of the competitions. There is a lot of camaraderie at the presentations on Sunday s. The course is in very good condition especially when we have a very dry December and January, which left the dams and moat very short of water. Rodger Scott our Head Greenkeeper has had a very tough task to keep the condition that the course is in now. Mowing the course takes up a fair amount of time along with keeping up the maintenance. Thanks Rodger and his staff. Thanks to our sponsor North Real Estate for the Lucky Draw every Saturday and Sunday. To my Men s Rep Clint Dunn and apprentice Mark Jessop I thank both of you for all the help I received so far this term. To Barry Horton and Tim, thank you for your assistance. Staff member in the halfway house also a big thanks. The ladies who set up the Xmas party decorations thank you. I also thank Kevin Haddrick for helping with the raffles on Saturdays and for Liz Edwards for the help on Sunday s. Finally, to all the members who have been patient with me, and all the ones who haven t. I have tried so far to keep everybody happy but as you know the doesn t happen, so I will keep trying as your Captain to finish off my term in the best possible way. For all the members who have lost someone during the year, my condolences and to all the members who have been sick, get well and will see you back on the course as soon as you are well enough to return. Max Jessop Men s Captain 6

7 Ladies Captain Report The past year has flown by and it gives me pleasure to submit the Annual Report. Although the year got off to a wet start we were able to complete all our scheduled events in good time. Our Div 1 Pennant Team performed well in the Northern Rivers Competition. Well done ladies, our Club was very proud of your efforts. We travelled to Mullumbimby for the Boomerang Shield Match Play and returned with the trophy (the Boomerang came back, as it should). Sadly after many years of competition, we said goodbye to the Tweed Travel Trophy that we have played against Murwillumbah Golf Club for many, many years. It has been difficult for them to make up a team to come to Banora, as age and availability of time restrict their members from travelling. A very successful Captains Invitation Day saw 76 players from far and wide join our members in playing a 4BBB in May. We were very proud of our course on the day thankyou Rodger. Our Major Events for the year were well supported and the following members were the winners. A Grade B Grade C Grade Club Champion K Mills P Williams L Abett Foursomes Champion K Mills/ P Hodda Div1 Foursomes Champion D Melling/P Hawley Div 2 Gold Medal Winner M Biggar Hole-In-One P Hawley & C Rasmussen N Douglas & P Ryan D Leopold Congratulation ladies, on a wonderful achievement. Our Golf Competitions run very smoothly, thank you Barry Horton for your assistance and patience in the Pro Shop. We owe a great deal to head Greenkeeper Rodger Scott for his management and maintenance of our golf course. It has been a very dry period of late but, the fairways are still green and lush. Thank you, Rodger and his staff. Thank you to the ladies in the Island House who look after us so readily on Tuesdays and Thursdays. No Golf Club runs smoothly without hard working committees and I thank all the ladies on the sub-committee who have worked tirelessly over the past year to give members the best possible days at golf (on the course and also after golf). We have seen many changes on the computers and we have now successfully implemented the change to Club Prizes being placed on membership cards. Many thanks to Ken Culpitt, for the endless hours of work getting our comps right on the computers. Thank you to all members of the Management Committee for your work in the running of our wonderful club. There are numerous volunteers that step up to help out in the running of our club, Thank You. To those of you who have not had the best health over the past year, hopefully you will soon be back on the course enjoying your golf. We lost our Life Member, Joyce Flannagan after a long illness and we paid tribute to her following our Championship presentation in June. We were saddened by the sudden passing of Doreen Snelling in December. To those of you who have lost loved ones over the past year on behalf of our members, I extend sincere condolences. Thank you to past Captain Denise Culpitt for her assistance in the changeover period. Much appreciated. In closing, I wish everyone good health and good golfing in the coming year. Pauline Ryan Ladies Captain

Veterans Captain Report 2018 was another successful year of Golf we had an average of 70 75 players on Mondays. We welcome all of the new members that have joined in the last year and all the best to those who retired from the game. The Veterans has a successful Invitation Day with a good participation from the other Northern Rivers Clubs. Our own club championship went well with David Von Itzstein crowned Club Champion. A Grade B Grade C Grade Club Championship D Von Itzstein M Jessop T Waller Also congratulations to Tony Waller and Mervyn Evans for winning the 2018 NRVGA 4BBB championship at Byron Bay. The Xmas party at the Island House was another great success with the buffet menu supplied by Twin Towns which was enjoyed by all. And of course a very big thank you to all the members who donated prizes for the raffle. Many thanks to Barry and his Pro Shop staff for all their help throughout the year, also thanks to Rodger and his ground staff for keeping the course in top condition. Many thanks to my trusty offsider Wayne (Dinghy) Martlew for all his help throughout the year. Finally, thanks to all the boys on the subcommittee for their selfless work behind the scenes. Cheers to all David Harrod Veteran s Captain 8

Treasurer s Report The Statement of Income and Expenditure for the period 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2018 shows that Club Banora Golf Club had an account balance of $18,249.92 as at 31 December 2018 this being a trading deficit (loss) of $12,229.15 for the 2018 year. Year 2018 Ladies Balance $ 2,610.39 Loss $ 1,858.68 Men $ 9,109.14 Loss $ 3,804.77 Veterans $ 6,530.39 Loss $ 6,565.70 Total $18,249.92 Loss $12,229.15 The 2018 budget forecast was for a loss of $8,830.00. This being $3,399.15 over budget. The main reason for the difference is that I scheduled more green fee free days than was in the original budget. Also trophy golf balls exceeded the original budget. The committee have agreed that our current bank balance is at our desired level, between $15,000 - $20,000 and future budgets will be set to break even. The desired bank balance is to ensure that we would always have the funds to pay our Golf Australia and Northern Rivers affiliation fees. Membership as at end of December 2018. 2017 2018 Ladies 79 75 Men 282 266 361 341 Although our member numbers decreased our competition golf rounds remained strong in 2018 with a small increase in the average number of players per competition. Raffle results for 2018 were once again excellent and I would like to thank all members for their generous support. Thank you to all ticket sellers as it would not be possible to achieve this result without your help. Thank you to all our member sponsors, North Estate Agents and Twin Towns for your financial support. Thank you to every member who assisted me with my duties as Treasurer during 2018, particularly Penny Martlew and Fran Janes from the Ladies. I would also like to thank, Barry Horton and his staff, Twin Towns and all the staff here at Club Banora and in particular the accounts staff for all their assistance during 2018.
