That s right! Starting February 21st the Sylvania Moose Lodge will begin its transformation. We received a grant from Moose International to replace the flooring, which is at least 25 years old. We are thrilled with this opportunity to update our lodge! Even though receiving grant money is exciting, it does not cover all of our costs; therefore, we need the help of the membership! This facelift includes new flooring and a fresh coat of paint throughout, in addition to some other items that need to be improved. We will first start renovations in the back hall on Tuesday, February 21 st, immediately after the 9 p.m. Super Tuesday drawing. All of the tables and chairs need to be moved out of the room so we can begin demolition/removal of the existing floor the following morning. Our goal is to get enough done in one week so that we won t have to cancel a Super Tuesday drawing. Then, at the end of March (tentatively 3/21), we will begin demo and updating the front bar/social quarters. During the week that the social quarters is being renovated, the bar in the Hall will be open during normal business hours (hours of operation will not be interrupted). This project is a huge undertaking and we need all available volunteers to get it done in a timely manner. I will have signup sheets in the clubroom entrance. The time slots will be short so as not to burden just a few. We need many people to help remove the furniture and the flooring, so if you can make the time or haven t volunteered before please take this opportunity we need you! This is our lodge and we want it to be a place that we can be proud of. If you can help please call Chairman Nick Giovannucci at 419-265-2213 or Co-Chair Cam Hall at 419-882- 6075. NEW YEAR S EVE PARTY 6:30 p.m. 1 a.m. Mark your calendar and plan to attend the Lodge on New Year s Eve to welcome in 2017. The Social Quarters and Hall will be open to members in good standing. All membership cards will be checked upon entry and guest(s) must be signed in at the front door. Starting at 8 p.m., Thunder Road Band will be performing in the Hall and playing your favorite Country and Rock & Roll favorites. Admission is free! The Lodge will provide meat and cheese trays, noise makers, and a champagne toast at midnight. *Please Bring A Dish To Pass* ANNUAL HANGOVER PARTY Join us on New Year s Day to visit with your fellow friends and relax in front of one of our 10 TV screens! Doors open at noon. The LOOM Officers will be bartending and serving up your favorite beverage. Come and see them in action. Food will be available and you may bring a dish to share. LOOM OFFICER NOMINATIONS We will start accepting nominations for calendar year May 2017 April 2018 on February 21, 2017, for Governor, Junior Governor, Prelate, Treasurer, and 3-Yr. Trustee. If you are interested in running for any of these elected positions, please contact any current officer with your intentions. The Nominating Committee will also meet on March 7 and March 21 and the election will be held on April 4. The Board of Officers

From the Governor I hope everyone had an enjoyable Holiday season! As we enter into a New Year, the Lodge has many great functions planned and we hope to see you at them. The original structure of your Moose Lodge is 40 years old and the addition is 21 years old. Consequently, we have several major projects/improvements planned for 2017 which includes repairing the parking lot (cost is approximately $90-$100,000), replacing old carpet and tile, and fresh paint throughout the Lodge. We have been awarded $14,400 in grant money from Moose International to be used for flooring only (total cost $24,400). Estimates to paint and update/improve lighting have not yet been confirmed. Also, we have been advised to start replacing the eight HVAC units. We will replace one unit per year over a period of eight years. So, needless to say, we will be holding fundraisers and asking our members for help. Please support your Lodge and help with these much needed replacements and improvements. Further details are forthcoming. Fraternally, BoB army armstrong LEGIONNAIRE MONTH January is designated as Moose Legion Honor Month. We truly appreciate our Legionnaires, Fellows, and Pilgrims for their hard work and dedication, while having fun doing good things for others and providing a greater service to the Moose Fraternity. Every Legion member in good-standing will receive a $10 Moose Bucks certificate! These certificates may be picked up (by the employee on duty) between Jan. 1 and Feb. 28 only. THANK YOU ALL FOR WHAT YOU DO FOR YOUR LODGE! LOOM MOOSE OF THE MONTH January Congratulations to Kurt Nielson (Photography) for donating his (always popular) photo booth on many Moose occasions! February Congratulations to LuAnn Hayes, our newly appointed Moose Sales Associate! WOTM MOOSE OF THE MONTH Michael P. Smith, Legion President and The Board of Officers January Congratulations to Diana Sullivan! February Congratulations to Taylor Hall! From THE SENIOR REGENT Hopefully everyone had a Merry Christmas and is looking forward to the New Year. It s that time of year to start thinking of new Officers and Chairmen for the next Moose year beginning May 1 st. Being an officer can help you meet many wonderful people in our Lodge. It takes a little extra time, but the rewards are well worth it! Contact a current officer if you are interested or would like more information on becoming an Officer. I would like to give a big welcome to the newest members of the Sylvania Chapter 1788 and thank all of their sponsors for supporting our Chapter. Also, thanks to all the volunteers who helped make 2016 a Great Year for our Lodge! SHELLY MILLS VOLUNTEERS WANTED! Would you like to prepare a Wednesday/Thursday Lite Meal? You create the menu and we ll help you with purchasing the ingredients (nothing comes out of your pocket!). Just get a few of your friends together for some fun in the kitchen! POLISH DINNER Saturday, January 28 Our traditional Polish Dinner consists of chicken, kielbasa, pierogi s, sweet & sour cabbage, and sour cream cukes. TEXAS HOLD EM TOURNAMENTS Saturday, January 14, February 18, March 18 $50 entry purchased prior $55 entry at the door All moose members are welcome to play. The Top two qualifiers from each of the 10 nights of play will advance to the Sylvania finals held Sept. 9, 2017. The top finisher will then be awarded two round trip airfares, hotel room, and one entry into the Moose International Hold Em Tournament. Congratulations to Dick Mossing and Robert Wells, winners in October, Joe Shay and Bill Wiley, winners in November, and Jeff Royer and Dick Mossing, winners in December! Bruce Hilbert, Chairman PARKING LOT PLEDGE Our Lodge is planning to re-asphalt the parking lot this year due to increased vehicle and truck traffic over the years. We have several estimates, with the most comprehensive proposals ranging from $90-$100,000. This project will be completed once we reach our financial goal. With the parking lot continuing to deteriorate season after season, this is one of the most important goals for 2017. We have 1,900+ LOOM members and 1,100+ WOTM members. Just imagine, if each member donated just $50, we can reach our financial goal! Please consider making a valuable contribution to your Lodge. Checks may be made payable to Sylvania Moose Lodge 1579 and please indicate parking lot on the memo line. Thank you in advance. Sincerely, The Board of Officers THANK YOU! I just want to thank everyone for all the support that has been given to Ted and I during his illness and passing. Our families and friends are still amazed at what everyone from the Moose organization has done for us. A special thanks to Pat Lennard, Bob Whalen, and the rest of the funeral crew, and also all the gentlemen who took part in the Moose Ritual Service during the visitation. Ted LOVED the Sylvania Moose and all the members. Remember he joined the Moose JUST to play horseshoes. It was the members that reached out to both of us and got us more involved. After that, you couldn t stop him from running functions, cooking meals, but also doing tasks as simple as taking out the garbage and straightening a rumpled carpet. I ask that ALL members follow his example by doing the little things. Volunteer to sell some tickets, clean up after yourself, or just thank the volunteers that do help out. It really is a rewarding feeling. Once again thanks to my Moose Family! Marsha Warrington Valentine s Day Dinner and Dance Saturday, February 11 6 11 p.m. Join us for an event unlike anything else! Due to the renovations being done in the Lodge, we will have a shortened five-week season. We will still have leagues on Wednesdays OR Thursdays at 6:30 and play in the back hall. The first night of play is Jan. 11 or 12, and Fun Night to finish the season is Wed., Feb. 15. Cost for the season is $25, with all of the money returning to the players based on your wins. There will be an information and sign-up meeting on Thurs., Feb. 5 at 6:30. We ll also be playing mini tournaments for anyone who just wants to try it out. You ABSOLUTELY MUST either show up to the meeting or contact Marsha Warrington (419-704-7954) or Dick Schuller (419-885-9016) by Jan. 5 to be included in the league. Please indicate which night you prefer, or if either night is fine. Since we need to know the exact number of players so schedules can be created, you may NOT wait until the first night of play to sign up. Due to space limitations we can only hold up to 32 players, so previous league members will have the first opportunity to join and to choose their night of play. If you can t commit to the league but still want to play, consider being a sub, or just show up around 8 p.m. any Wednesday or Thursday for our post-league tournaments.
