Ian & Kate Williams <i.k.williams@clear.netnz> 1 Aug 17 to me Dear Members of the Marton Community Committee Members of the Marton Lions Club have been involved in planting and maintaining the Hanging Baskets in Broadway, Marton, for several years. As well as the time involved, there is the ongoing expenses associated with these baskets including plants, potting mix, the watering system, liners and the baskets themselves. Marton Lions Club received $1600 from the Rangitikei District Council recently and this covers the costs of the baskets, liners, potting mix, plants and the maintenance of the watering system on the Western side of Broadway. Last Summer a further system was put in to extend the baskets into the top end of Broadway requiring extra finance. Marton Lions Club is asking the Marton Community Committee for $1000 from your small grant fund to cover the expenses of planting and maintaining the baskets that are hung on the Eastern side of Broadway. When the flowers in the baskets are in full bloom they certainly brighten up Broadway and we have had lots of favourable comments from members of the public.
