And the rain came down Road to the dirt track at Broadford Horsham MCC So many club events had to be cancelled or postponed this weekend and those that did go ahead really challenged the organisers and the riders. But the track at Wonthaggi seemed to be immune to the watery chaos happening elsewhere in the state and the first round of the motocross club champs on Saturday went ahead in near perfect conditions. Cappa does the Briefing, the gear is a prize Korumburra MCC support the event Me and photographer Jo headed down in time for rider s briefing from Glenn Capuano and there was a good turn out of riders, including half a dozen quads for the quad class offered this round. The club is preparing for the ATV MX Nationals on 8-9 th October and this would be a good chance for the four wheelers to get some familiarity with the track. After the briefing it was time for practice and I headed out to do flagging and watering for the day yes, watering, the track dusted up late morning and it was out with the hoses between races for the rest of the day. 2

Mason Semmens #3 is rapidly becoming a household name amongst the motocross community as he continues to dominate in the Junior 250 A Grade, and winning the juniors at the Hattah. He won every race today and got the fastest lap out of anyone (including seniors). He is now off to Renmark in South Australian for the Junior MX National Champs next week and we wish him all the best and know dad Paul, mum Joanne and brother Hunter will be right there in the pits supporting him. 85 Small Wheel Junior 125, Race 1 There were a couple of vintaqe bikes amongst the combined Vets and Enduro class and the riders also took them out in the Senior Lites why not! Steve Young is a well known face around the Wonthaggi track having been volunteering with the club for a million years and nearly always seen with his good mate Rex Lea. But today was his last day as he and his wife head north to a new life. So thank you Steve for all your help and your friendly happy face everytime we saw you. #548 Senior Lites Matt Palmer #574 wins C Open The quads were very exciting to watch and there was very real and close competition amongst the small group. You really get a sense when watching the quads of how much they have to move around the bike, dragging their leg over the seat in the corners, adjusting the bike constantly to hit the jumps square on and the whoops section also required great effort to keep the bike in line. These bikes would also jump as high as your average motocrosser. But this is not a poor man s game this quad racing some of the bikes there today would be $40k or more. The Van Vliet family (Four Brothers Racing) are dominating the Victorian quad scene, with national level quad championship wins, wins at the Finke, and experience in overseas competition. And they don t take no prisoners! Or is that just brothers being brothers. 8

As I was about to leave I popped into the men s toilet to find winner of the Vets Over 45 s and second placed B Grade 450 class racer Denis Casey #v29 sweeping out the men s toilet. Yup, instead of just packing up and heading home he was still working. As were many of the DMCC helpers, closing up the track and cleaning up in the canteen. Great work from everyone there. The final round of the Yamaha Victorian Off-Road Championships will be a day of sprints for seniors at the Yarram MCC track on 25 th September for seniors only. This looks to be a fantastic final round head to head sprints on a 5km track with design assistance from enduro legends Norm Watts and his son Shane Watts, and Shane has announced via Facebook he will be racing: Just finished a full day of setting up trail for the VORC Sprint race next weekend at Yarram. It's going to be pretty bloody awesome and I can't wait to race it - don't miss out if you're undecided about coming!!! A 2004 KTM200EXC is rumoured to be his weapon of choice as his KTM125 from the 1998 International 6 Day stays in the shed for the time being. And Shane has hinted at a Pony Express at Three Bridges in late October. Entries and Final Instructions for this last round are at www.mvorconline.com but if you are not entering then come along and spectate (Buckley s Reserve, Morris Road, Yarram) it s going to be good. Also Alan Lawler for cooking up lunch for us all. The track is all set, 5.3kms long with a mix of everything. Head to head racing on two separate tracks for the first 1.5kms. In American he was considered the Travis Pastrana of the off-road In 2009 Watts broke his back in a "simple, slow-speed fall" fracturing five vertebrae, which required six of them to be fused together. It was stated that doctors first assessment was that he would be unable to ride again.
