Todd Crawford and Play Dual Rey Mark 2011 World's Greatest Horseman Rein Work Prelim High Score The World's Greatest Horseman has become one of the most prestigious titles in the western horse industry, and the contest is held annually during the National Reined Cow Horse Association Celebration of Champions in San Angelo, Texas. Todd Crawford and Play Dual Rey were finalists in the 2010 World's Greatest Horseman, and with the first half of the preliminary competition, it seems that the NRCHA Million Dollar Rider and the reigning American Quarter Horse Association are poised to make a repeat appearance this year. Crawford and the Dual Rey stallion, out of Hiccup N Play, marked a 216 in the herd work, and came back strong in the rein work to mark the high score of the rein work prelims for the second year in a row with a 223! Thanks to sponsorship from San Juan Ranch, Crawford will receive a beautiful Gist Silversmiths buckle and $2,000 for the go-round win. steer stopping and cow work. The top ten from the preliminary round will compete in the clean-slate finals, where the Champion will receive a check for $30,000! Todd Crawford and Play Dual Rey, owned by Play Dual Rey Partners Stick Horses and a Very Wild Bunch Costumes, music, laughter and fun were all on the agenda for the evening on Thursday, February 3. The First Community Credit Union Spur Arena sported a more casual air with the Mosaic TRAILS/Rein In Cancer Celebrity Stick Horse Herd Work and the NRCHYA Wild Bunch Costume Freestyle. But the action and fun wasn't limited to the arena. Robin Sugg of San Angelo hosted a precompetition reception in memory of her mother, Mary Sheard Sugg. Catered by River Terrace Restaurant, the heavily attended event gave San Angelo natives, including San Angelo Mayor Alvin New, an opportunity to meet NRCHA members. The Celebrity Stick Horse Herd Work featured ten local celebrities who donned specially decorated horse costumes to complete a designated pattern. NRCHA Judge and Board of Directors member Marilyn Peters of Edmond, Oklahoma, officiated the event. Local news stations KSAN and KLST were on hand to give the event great coverage. Mosaic began its therapeutic riding program called Mosaic Therapeutic Riding for the Achievement of Individual Life Success in 2007. Its new goal is to build an indoor riding arena, so money raised from the Stick Horse Herd Work will go towards the new facility. The other beneficiary of the event was Rein In Cancer, an equine based entity that has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to aid in the fight against cancer. Following the Celebrity Stick Horse Herd Work, it was time for the Wild Bunch Costume Freestyle hosted by the National Reined Cow Horse Youth Association. The Wild Bunch - a freestyle Reining and Costume Class - was a staple at the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity for many years. It grew in popularity and craziness, earning its moniker over time. The Wild Bunch, which featured $500 in added-money, had nine entries. Youth Committee Chairman Paul Bailey noted the event was a success. "I think people are beginning to look forward to this event and we look to see it grow," he noted. campaign.r20.constantcontact.com/rend 4/6
