January 2018 Cedar Valley Iris and Daylily Society In the depth of winter, I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer. Albert Camus President Keith s Korner: Gone missing to Florida. Hope they are traveling safe after their late start. Parts broke on the slide out and delayed his start. We will see him and Sally in February. Joyce Parsons, Vice President will be conducting the business meeting on January 13th at the Coralville Library. We will be asking the membership to approve a later meeting date in February for Keith to resume his duties as overseer. (February 17th versus the 10th.) Or view more information prior online at the daylilies.org/ahsawards.html website. CVIDS has had the privilege of having this years Stout winner as a guest speaker. Scott Elliott 2017 Banquet Speaker Scott provided us a generous donation of his award winning plants. Thanks to all who purchased raffle tickets to help with the cost of his trip. His message of daylilies and humorous signs was well received. You can follow him on Facebook. A posting on January 3rd found him not able to work in his Ellebell, Georgia garden with a 6 plus inch snowfall occurring. 2018 Club Plants report from Jackie Westhoff Diann Pavelka and I met on January 4th to discuss the Powerpoint presentation for our CVIDS 2018 Club Plant distribution. I have confirmation from 5 gardens representing plants from 9 hybridizers, and will be finalizing with Jamie Gossard as soon as he gets his 2018 intros uploaded to his website. Same goes for one other hybridizer who will be posting hers at the end of this month. I'm excited to have also reserved plants from some known but new-to-us hybridizers, who run smaller operations and have limited numbers of offerings, having ordered in September and October before they were sold out. Looking forward to winter being over and another fun May event. Keep fellow CVIDS members in your thoughts: Sylvia Clark Hansen Family, Leann Pisark, Kathleen Dawson, Sue Kramer, Barry Stoll, and the McCreights. 5
