The Hawks won double-digit games in consecutive seasons for the first time since doing it four years in a row from 1998-99 through 2001-02. Eastern Shore s 28 wins over two seasons are its most since the 1993-94 and 1994-95 seasons when the Hawks won 29 games. ALL-MEAC AWARDS: The Hawks were well-represented on last season s All-MEAC teams. Senior forward Dominique Elliott earned All-MEAC First Team honors, following up his Third Team nod from the year before. Senior guard Devin Martin was named to the All-MEAC Second Team, while freshman guard Dontae Caldwell earned a spot on the All-MEAC Rookie Team. ELLIOTT S EXIT: Forward Dominique Elliott made his final season in a Hawk uniform one to remember. In addition to making the All-MEAC First Team, the Savannah, Ga. native was named a College Court Report Mid-Major All-American in addition to taking home Second Team BOXTOROW All-American and NABC All-District 15 First Team honors. Elliott finished second on the team with 14.8 PPG and third in the conference with 8.0 RPG, recording nine double-doubles along the way. His.512 career field goal percentage ranks fifth all-time in Eastern Shore basketball history. BACK FOR MORE: Despite losing its top two scores from last year, Eastern Shore returns its next next six leading scorers. The Hawks will rely heavely on senior forward Bakari Copeland, who averaged 10.5 PPG shooting.432 from the floor. 2014-15 MEAC Rookie of the Year Ryan Andino (6.1 PPG), and reigning MEAC All-Rookie Selection Dontae Caldwell (5.1 PPG) will also look to perform in increased roles. Senior point guard Thomas Rivera, meanwhile, will resume his quarterbacking role for the Hawks after averaging a team-high 3.4 APG last season. FRESH FACES: Eastern Shore welcomes seven new players to the bench in 2016-17. Junior guard Logan McIntosh arrives in Princess Anne from Northeast Oklahoma A&M CC, where he averaged 12.8 PPG and 4.4 APG last season. Atlantic City-born freshman Tyler Jones lit up the competition at Holy Spirit High School, posting 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists per game as a senior. The Hawks also feature some local talent on roster this season as Berlin s Colen Gaynor (Mt. Zion Baptist Christian) and Princess Anne s Montraz Oliver (Washington HS) look to take the next step for their fans on The Shore. UNIV. OF MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE NUMERICAL ROSTER No. Name Pos. Yr. UCF had previously played Eastern Shore at home in January 1985, winning 70-58, before the series went on a freeze of nearly 30 years. KNIGHTS SHINING: At 6-1, Central Florida is off to its best start since 2010-11 when it opened up at 14-0. The Knights only loss this season came against top-ranked defending national champs Villanova on Nov. 20. UCF looks to carry momentum into the American opener on Dec. 28 at Tulane; its final nonconference game will be against MEAC foe Bethune-Cookman. THE ONE TO WATCH: Sopomore center Tacko Fall is hard not to watch: he is the tallest player in Division I, towering over the competition at 7 6 and 290 pounds. The Senegalese national is third on the team with 13.9 points per game and leads the club with 12.9 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per contest. He ranks second in the country in rebounding and in the top 20 in blocks. Fall s best game this year came last month against Mississippi State as he netted 20 points and pulled down 13 boards in an 86-61 Knight win. SWAPPING COASTS: Knights skipper Johnny Dawkins made the move to Orlando last offseason after eight seasons as head coach at Stanford. He brought prosperity to Palo Alto as the Cardinal won 20+ games four times and produced the two most recent perfect Academic Progress Rate scores in the NCAA. Dawkins led Duke to the 1986 National Championship game, earning two All-American selections and the 86 Naismith National Player of the Year award, and later served as an assistant under Mike Krzyzewski at Duke for 10 seasons before taking the Stanford job in 2008. Winston-Salem State (2006-2014): Collins took over the Rams program for eight seasons, leading the team to consistent success in the CIAA in his last four years. In that time, Collins went 79-35 with the Rams, including two trips to the Division II Regional First Round. Overall, Collins posted a 116-116 record at WSSU. Hampton [HC] (2002-2006): Collins was promoted to head coach of the Pirates for four seasons, winning MEAC Coach of the Year in 2005 and earning an NCAA tournament berth in 2006. Collins lost to Monmouth in the Opening Round of the NCAA Tournament, finishing his career at Hampton with a 65-57 overall record. Hampton [AC] (1995-2002): Collins spent seven seasons as an assistant coach for the Pirates. In 2001, Hampton upset the 2-seed Iowa State in the first round of the NCAA tournament, only the 4th victory for a 15-seed in NCAA history. Bobby Collins is entering his third season as the head coach at Maryland Eastern Shore. He was named the 19th head coach of the Hawks on April 8, 2014. In his first season, the Hawks concluded their year with an 18-15 overall record, the most wins by a UMES men s basketball team in 41 years. Though they suffered through a first-round exit in the College Insider Tournament (CIT), the Hawks still managed to earn a postseason berth for the first time since 1981. The winning mark was the first above.500 record for a UMES team since the 1993-94 season, while the thirdplace finish in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference is the best since that same year. The incredible turnaround year also saw widespread recognition of the accomplishments in Princess Anne with Collins winning MEAC Coach of the Year, as well as freshman Ryan Andino winning MEAC Rookie of the Year. Michael Myers also earned numerous awards, including Riley Wallace Player of the Year. Collins was named 2015 Ben Jobe Coach of the Year. Head Coach Bobby Collins Hometown: Southern Pines, N.C. College: Eastern Kentucky, 91 Experience: 3rd Season at Eastern Shore 15th overall as collegiate head coach In his second season at the helm of the Hawks, he again won double-digit games and produced a First-Team All-MEAC player in Dominique Elliott who was named to two All- American lists. His recruit, Dontae Caldwell, earned All-Rookie honors from the conference as well. Collins has a career record of 209-210 as a head coach over 14 season at NCAA Division I & II programs. A 1991 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, Collins was a four-year starter on the men s basketball team where he was named to the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) All-Freshman Team and Honorable Mention All-OVC as a senior. Following his graduation from EKU, Collins played professional basketball in Finland, where he earned MVP honors overseas in the Helsinki Classic Tournament in 1991. The son of two non-denominational ministers, Collins is the youngest of 10 siblings. He graduated from Pinecrest High School and guided his men s basketball squad to a 38-9 record over his junior and senior seasons. In 1984, he earned All-State honors and was named Conference Player of the Year. COLLINS VS.
