November 2010 Calendar of Events November 4 - Winter Sports Night at the Riveredge November 18 - General Meeting November 19-21 - Workers Weekend December 2 - General Meeting December 16 - General Meeting Christmas Party! Membership Meetings are held at 7:30 PM at the READING LIEDERKRANZ 143 Spook Lane Reading, PA 19606 THE Deadline for the December issue of Ski Trails is Thursday, November 4th. President Ed Soja Greetings fellow skiers and snowboarders! I hope you are enjoying the fall weather and getting ready for the upcoming ski season. Time seems to be flying by and before you know it, we will be on the slopes carving up our favorite trails. So make sure you have your equipment tuned up and be ready for some action. October was a great month, starting off with a fun-filled weekend in Wildwood. There was lots of food, music, dancing, and fun to be had by all. Thanks to Eric Confer and Stan Miller for doing another spectacular job. October 8th and 9th were the Pennsylvania Ski and Winter Sports Museum Hall of Fame expo and induction ceremony. I had the honor of representing the Flying Dutchmen Ski Club as one of the expo exhibitors. We had a table set up with Dutchmen memorabilia and information about the club. Friday night there were cocktails, Hors D oeuvres, a Chinese auction, and an introduction and roast of the 2010 Hall of Fame Inductees. On Saturday the festivities continued with a luncheon and Induction of the nominees into the Pennsylvania Hall of Fame. This year s inductee s were Tom Beach, Bob Danzeisen, Ken Gable, Ed Hirshman, Douglas Howlett, and Bill Stenger. It was a great experience to be part of this event to honor those individuals who have given so much to the sport. If you would like to find out more about the Pennsylvania Ski and Winter Sports Museum and Hall of Fame, information can be found on line at: www.paskimuseum.org. November kicks off with our annual Winter Sports Night on Thursday the 4th. This event takes place at the Riveredge and takes the place of our normal meeting at the Liederkranz. So come on out and talk to the vendors and see what s happing this year in the snow sports industry. Hope to see you there. Ed Winter Sports Night Winter Sports Night Thursday, November 4th 7pm at the Riveredge General Meeting at 8pm See the newest ski and snowboard gear. Visit with our guest winter resorts and sponsors. Win one of the spectacular door prizes!

Social Director Debbie Pasquale Who s Got the Fun? Wildwood, what FUN!! A huge thank you to Stan Miller and Erick Confer for another fun-filled weekend! They do everything just right, especially the weather. Don t forget Winter Sports Night on Thursday, November 4th at the RiverEdge. There will be plenty of mountains and ski shops there showing off this season s specials and latest fashions. Prizes will be given away from the various mountains. Also something new this year. Patti and her Relay for Life Team will be holding a silent auction. Stop at their table to bid on fun and exciting gifts. All money collected will go to the 2011 Relay for Life event. Winners of the auction will be posted after the event. Also at Winter Sports Night, we will be selling Winter Carnival tickets at Early Bird Special prices. Winter Carnival is on Saturday, February 19th, 2011 at Bear Creek. We will have goofy games, club race, soup and sandwich buffet, and the infamous Torch Light Parade. Tickets are $25 for adults and $17 for children 12 and under. Adult tickets for one night only at Winter Carnival will be $23, so come out and buy your ticket to fun! Don t forget to sign up for the lesson program, which will begin before you know it. See Julie Mihm for details. We ve Got the Fun! Debbie Competition Nancy Brandi Race Team members will start selling 50/50 tickets at Winter Sports night, and I hope you ll support the team and buy your winning ticket(s). All proceeds from this raffle go back into the club for various items, but most importantly to purchase the medals and awards that are handed out at the Winter Carnival in February. You can buy tickets from any race team member up until the drawing, which will be at the Christmas party. Thanks in advance for your continued support. Once again there is ASRA race training available at Killington, VT Dec. 6-9th. Killington Mt. also offers race training at that time. The ASRA opening races are at Killington the weekend of Dec. 10-12th. More information and contact information concerning both race camps will be posted on our FDSC web site, or check out ASRA at www.skiracer.com for the current race schedule. Racers, mark your calendars for the weekend of January 7-9th for the ASRA race at Elk Mt. If you are interested in staying at the FDSC lodge, please contact me via email or phone. Winter is coming quickly so get your gear together and get yourself ready for NASTAR or any race gates, with fun activities like biking, hiking, rollerblading, etc. Let the leaves fall and the snow fly Nancy Membership Lori Hudson Happy November!
