BROOME COUNTY SPORTSMEN S ASSOCIATION Since 1919 Foley Road, Kirkwood, New York July - Aug. - Sept. 2011 Presidents Letter Here we are with the 4 th of July upon us. May you and yours have an enjoyable Independence Day. Remembering those who have and are sacrificing so much that we may enjoy freedom. I want to thank each and every one that has served in the defense of this country at any time. Thanks. I hope that the rest of your summer is a happy one as you follow your various endeavors. May you enjoy all that the great outdoors has to offer. John Raffle Winners Elma Costello is the Grand Prize winner. She chose the $555.00 Cash John Calisi is the 1st Prize winner. He received a full size afghan by Laurie Bill Kappler is the 2nd Prize winner. He won the Long Arms CCW course. Attention - Rifle Range Safety Before anyone goes down range to attend targets All rifles are to be unloaded, magazines removed bolts open and placed in rifle rack Pistols - magazines out, slides back and placed on table. Safety and consideration for fellow members is every ones responsibility. Pistol Range The same goes for this range - Only.22 cal. rifle can be used on this range. Pistols - same - Loaded pistols are not to be carried down range when attending targets. BCSA wants every one to use safe handling of fire arms and have fun shooting. BCSA s monthly air rifle field target matches continue to draw in seasoned and new shooters from up to 5 hours away. This is an excellent way to practice up for the NY state small game season using your air rifle and it s fun too. Any air rifle with less than 20 ft-lbs of muzzle energy is welcome. Stop down and give it a try. There is always loaner equipment on hand and people willing to help you through your first time. The remaining match dates are listed in the newsletter and can also be found on the BCSA website. Additional information and match results can be found here: http://www.bcsportsmen.org/ft/ftindex.html or contact the match director at ft1@bcsportsmen.org with any questions. Greg Proof of Membership must be carried when on B.C.S.A. property. Which shall be: a Club issued membership card clearly displayed by member on outer clothing above the waist at all times when on Club property.

2011 BCSA Newsletter Page 2 MEMBERSHIPS: We are fast approaching August 31, the end of the membership year. Right now, we have close to 740 members. A number of new member applications are already waiting for July 1st when we begin issuing cards for the new membership year. Pre-printed renewal form will be mailed out by the end of July to all current members. Do not use the New Member Application included in this newsletter. When you receive your form, please look at it carefully and make corrections before it is returned. We like to keep our database up to date. Beginning with the new membership year, the junior member Classification will end at the age of 18. This corresponds to NRA member rules which our by-laws require us to follow. Also starting with the new year, junior members will no longer receive the lock combinations on their cards. Juniors must be accompanied by an adult member when using the ranges. The following are a few comments, primarily for new members, about the Other Optional Payments section on the lower right side of the coming renewal form: All members PLEASE mark yes or no in the Plastic Card Holder line. You will not receive a plastic card holder this year if it is not requested on the form. The New York State Conservation Council appreciates your $1.00 optional Buck a Member donation which we submit to them at the end of the year. Yearly optional Membership Buttons will again be available. Some members like to pin them on their hats and some just collect them. You can get yours for free from a board member when you are on club grounds. Otherwise, for $2.50 we ll again mail the button to you if that is more convenient. New membership cards are mailed out promptly after payment is received. When you receive your new card, please keep it in a safe place. We no longer issue free replacement cards. There is a $5.00 fee for a duplicate card if yours is lost or misplaced. BCSA takes part in the NRA Recruiter Program. Please join or renew the NRA membership thru BCSA. The annual NRA membership is only $25.00 and BCSA gets a rebate from the NRA. Applications can be submitted to the NRA off our website: www.bcsportsmen.org if we choose to use a credit card. We can also mail you an application with business reply envelope if you contact me at 607-648-8193. Irma Thrall, Memberships Attention InDoor Range Members When placing targets down range. Targets are not to be so close that you can not see at least 2 feet of the back stop under the target. This is to prevent bullets from hitting the floor and metal skirt, and Ricochet up thru the ceiling and the roof. If you see other shooters doing this - please point out this incorrect placement and help maintain safety of the range.

2011 BCSA Newsletter Page 3 High Power Rifle The 2011 High Power season is under way, with 3 of the matches complete as of 6/4/11. The next match will be at Tioga on June 18th, Sign up at 0900, match starts at 0930. Second relay sign up at 12:30, match starts at 1:00. So far, there have been matches at Square Deal, BCSA and Sayre Sportsmen s. No one has yet taken advantage of the opportunity to try shooting a match with 22 rim fire. If you are interested in participating in a match without investing in a military style rifle and costly ammunition, this would be a perfect way to try the sport. Matches consist of 80 rounds plus sighters, fired 20 rounds each from standing offhand, sitting rapid fire, prone rapid fire and prone slow fire. A sling may be used in all positions except standing offhand. We typically run two relays at each match, so you should pre register early to lock in a position for the relay that you want. If you don t pre-register, it s first come, first served. The matches held so far this season have been well attended, with a full line at the 0930 relay, and an additional 5 to 8 shooters in the 1330 relay.
