The ITS program staff then headed out to Ricon on Friday, November 9th to face off against their team. The game was highly competitive. Ultimately, the ITS team prevailed with a victory and received their third ITS Outreach Challenge win. This challenge is made possible by the Nike N7 Fund ( N7). 1st ANNUAL WINTER GATHERING OUTREACH On Friday, November 10th San Diego American Indian Health Center held their first Annual Winter Gathering, which they created to help bring the community together. Our site supervisors headed down to help out at different booths to contribute to the overall success of the event. There was delicious food, a youth craft corner, bird singers, and much more. Overall, the event was a success.

VIEJAS AWARD CEREMONY OUTREACH On Monday, November 19th our Program Manager, Raymond Santiago, went to Viejas to speak at their end of the year awards ceremony. Viejas participated in all sports that ITS offered this past 2018 year. The awards ceremony highlighted a lot of the personal and team successes many had in Viejas while participating in the ITS leagues. ITS looks forward to serving the kids of Viejas in the 2019 year! GROUP OUTING: N7 NATIVE AMERICAN NIGHT SDSU Men's Basketball partnered with Nike N7 as part of a special celebration on Tuesday, November 27th during Native American Heritage Month. Nike N7 is Nike's commitment to bring sports and all of its benefits to Native American communities. To show their spirit San Diego State made a departure from their traditional colors for the game, donning turquoise Nike N7 uniforms. ITS attended the Nike N7 Native American Night, where we had a special pre game mixer party that allowed everyone to come together and build community. This group outing also included bird singers from the Kumeyaay Nation as the SDSU campus resides on Kumeyaay land. The bird singers blessed hundreds with songs at the main entrance of the arena. DreamCatchers Cheer Our very own ITS DreamCatchers Cheer program partnered with the SDSU cheerleaders during the N7 Native American Night. Our cheerleaders had the opportunity to perform alongside the SDSU cheerleaders during halftime. The routine was executed at a high level and all that attended enjoyed the collaboration.

ANNOUNCEMENT ITS SPOTLIGHT: YESSENIA CERVANTES SAN PASQUAL BOARD MEMBER We would like to welcome our new ITS board member from San Pasqual, Yessenia Cervantes. She is in her second year working at the San Pasqual Education Department and her first year as the Program Coordinator. Being an ITS board member to her means being a voice for the children and their futures as not only athletes, but as individuals. Yessenia states, "Working with children has always been a passion of mine. Growing up, sports were always an outlet for me. Sports challenged me and ultimately transformed me into the woman that I am today. I understand the importance, as well as the benefits it has for children and I want to be there to provide a memorable experience to our youth through ITS." The most enjoyable thing about working at San Pasqual is simple; the children.the children are what make her leave work everyday with a smile on her face and with so much gratitude in her heart. Being able to make a difference, even if it s just in one child s life, means the world to her. Her involvement in many programs has created many impactful memories for Yessenia. One in particular stands out as she states, "My most memorable moment at San Pasqual would have to be our most recent ITS event, the SDSU N7 Night game. Coaching the San Pasqual Dreamcatchers is such an honor. Seeing how happy and proud my cheerleaders were after their performance brought so much joy to my heart. Moments like that are exactly why I am here." Yessenia looks forward to creating more positive involvement between the San Pasqual community and other tribes as she expresses how, "the more we come together, the stronger we get as a whole. I believe ITS is a great outlet to provide this form of unification, and through that involvement, I hope I can make an impact on many learning minds to come." ITS is excited and fortunate to have Yessenia join the ITS team and we look forward to seeing the huge impact she sets out to make!
