AUGUST 2015 EDITION OFF THE PITCH BSA CELTIC SOCCER CLUB WWW.BSACELTIC.COM PRESIDENT S PERSPECTIVE By Matt Cosler The Celtic Organization would like to wish all of the Celtic players the best of luck this upcoming fall season. Always remember, when you put on that Celtic jersey, you are not only representing your team but the whole club. I would also like to thank the players and parents who participated in the Fourth of July parade with me. We had approximately 30 kids walk the parade route. The kids had a good time handing (not throwing) out the bubble gum! Hopefully we can continue and build on this tradition in the future. Page 2 Ankeney Complex Notes By John Ankeney With the season starting, Celtic coaches, players and parents are reminded that, when possible, all practices and training sessions should take place on the training fields. This helps protect the game fields and keeps them in the best condition possible. Additionally, when conducting practice, please do not run repetitive drills inside the penalty box, as these areas are the first to break down and become damaged during the season. This fall, some of the Ankeney Complex roadways may be closed for repaving operations. The specific dates and times have not been finalized, but please be aware of this possibility. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause as you make your way through the soccer complex this season. Everyone should be reminded that, throughout the season, the weather can be stormy. If lightning is seen or thunder is heard, the fields must be cleared for thirty minutes. The 30 minute waiting period restarts at the time of the most recent sighting of lightning or sound of thunder, so delays could increase as the storm moves through. Kids should be in a vehicle or building Upcoming Events AUGUST August 1 Half of total fees due date (less deposit) August 2 August Board Meeting, Phillips Meeting Room, 7pm SEPTEMBER Sept 11 - Celtic Juniors begins Sept 13 Annual General Meeting, Ankeney Shelter (time tba) (all parents welcome to attend and vote) Sept 23 - BSA Night, Beavercreek High School Girls. 7pm vs. Centerville. Players receive free admission by wearing their Celtic jerseys. This game will be televised by TWC, so fill the stands! OCTOBER Oct 16-18 The Haunted Classic during this time. Lightning is something that must be taken seriously and respected. No one wants to see players, parents or coaches injured in what would be a life changing event. Your safety is our primary concern! Upcoming Events Picture Days August 24 th -27 th and August 29 th Coaches or Administrators please contact: Matt Cosler at mcosler@bsaceltic.com to schedule your date and time. Ball Girls/Ball Boys In accordance with GWOC rules, the Beavercreek High School soccer teams must make Ball Boys/Ball Girls available for every JV and Varsity home game. As in past years, the Celtic Club will schedule these Ball Boys/Ball Girls. Coaches and Administrators, less than half of the games have assigned ball girls/boys at this time. So, if you have not already done so, please contact: Matt Cosler at mcosler@bsaceltic.com to sign up for a game that that accommodates your team s schedule. (see p. 6 for available games) Remember: Celtic ballgirls/ballboys receive free admission. Teams should arrive at the stadium 15 minutes before game time. 8 players are needed to cover two slots on all four sides of the field. Players should wear gym shoes and a Celtic shirt.

Page 3 Other News Celtic Juniors The 2015/2016 Celtic Juniors Program will begin Friday, September 11 th. This program consists of 6 one-hour sessions. 6 and 7 year olds Fridays 5:00pm-6:00pm 8 and 9 year olds & Super 7's Fridays 6:00pm-7:00pm Cost: $50 Register: Blue Sombrero Location: Meet at Concession Stand Celtic Juniors targets young players who are not yet participating in the BSA Celtic Soccer Club. This program focuses on FUN, TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT and SPORTSMANSHIP. FUN comes first, because when children enjoy soccer, learning takes care of itself. TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT is vital, for without basic skills, players are limited in their athletic expression and their enjoyment of soccer is reduced. The Celtic Juniors aims to instill a solid technical base in each player. Soccer is a team sport, so it is crucial for players to absorb the basic elements of SPORTSMANSHIP, which includes teamwork, cooperation, and positive competition. Even if a player does not continue with soccer, these elements will serve them well in school, work, and life. Team Success ODP Congratulations to our Celtic players who made the Olympic Development Program s State Team and made the journey to Regional Camp. 2003 Age Group-Boys Andrew Ackerson U13 White 2002 Age Group-Boys Conner Bailey U13 White Blake Bartley U12 White Brandon Osterholt U13 White Mitchell Cosler U12 White Pierson Davis U12 White Logan Downey U13Blue Brandon Gibson U13 Blue Gavin Marshall U13 White Kellan Minch U13 White Ethan Picard U12 White Conner Osterholt U13 White 2001 Age Group-Boys Alec West U14 White Jack Towers U14 White Girls Megan Smith U12 White Ava Behr U14 White Dian Benigno U14 White Morgan Currier U14 White Chloe Spitler U14 White John Ruetschle Brady Vilvens U12 White U13 White Mitchell Manzardo U14 White
