Golf Maintenance Update Now that the Nicklaus Clubhouse is open, we are excited to work on renovating the bunkers on 17 and 18 Nicklaus. This renovation will provide top notch playing conditions and greatly improve the stability of the bunkers. The soil on the Nicklaus course differs from the Watson and Palmer courses and is even unique to Florida. The Nicklaus course suffers from large washouts following hard rainstorms due to the slick nature of the soil. We worked with the Nicklaus design team to develop a solution to help prevent the damaging washouts from continually occurring. The solution is a capillary concrete mixture on the bunker walls with a material lining the base of the bunker and an extensive drainage system. This combination is currently the best option for new bunker installs and the primary recommendation by the Nicklaus design team. Prior to the installations the old sand is removed and drainage lines are established. The next step was to install the bunker liner material on the base of the bunkers followed by the installation of drainage pipes. The bunkers are then ready for the capillary concrete installation. The capillary concrete mixture is spread out by hand and smoothed out along the bunker edges. They cover the wet concrete overnight and allow the mix to cure. At this point the bunkers are ready for sod and sand installation. Another important aspect of the bunker renovation is to recapture the original sod lines along the bunker faces. The Nicklaus design team was instrumental on working with us to help reestablish the sod lines. The sand that is being installed is a G-angle bunker sand at a depth of around 4. This sand is also a primary recommendation from the Nicklaus design team. Additional projects on 17 and 18 include sod installations and drainage improvements along the retention edges. We have identified a solution that will help channel rain water toward the designated drains. This will prevent rain water from eroding away the edges. gatherings 3
