This is the secod cosecutive year that the Rebels have played host to the touramet, where i 2005 the Huskers claimed their first team title. I 2006, the Wildcats have averaged a team score of 4,671 to a 8-4 dual record. Behid the efforts of sophomore Amy Sowash, Ketucky looks to emerge as a major player this postseaso ad push ito either the No. 1 or No. 2 spot at the GC Champioships after fiishig third i 2005. However, i order to do that Ketucky will have to pass up Army ad Nebraska, two programs that topped the Wildcats durig dual competitio this seaso. The score propelled Army past the Huskers i the atioal rakigs despite the fact that Nebraska sports a higher seaso average ad beat the Black Kights i dual competitio. Nebraska is the fourth of eight teams slated to compete at the evet with Alaska-Fairbaks qualifyig first followed by Army ad Ketucky. The four remaiig teams are Murray State, Navy, Jacksoville State ad Mississippi. Qualificatio for the evet is based o a combiatio of factors, icludig a threescore regular-seaso average added to the score from the NCAA Qualifier with a resultig media qualifyig mark. The Huskers boasted a outstadig 4,678.7 durig the regularseaso, behid oly Alaska-Fairbaks, but failed to otch quite as solid a mark at the NCAA Qualifier (4,666), which resulted i a fourth-place NCAA berth. Comig o Strog For juior Stacy Uderwood ad sophomore Katie Harrigto, it s ever too late i the seaso to improve. I fact, at the NRA Sectioal o Feb. 9 ad the NCAA Qualifier o Feb. 11, the pair made marked strides, Uderwood i smallbore ad Harrigto i air rifle. After shootig a smallbore average of 575.71 prior to those two matches, Uderwood otched a score of 584 at the sectioal ad 581 at the Qualifier to icrease her seaso average by early two poits to 577.22. Uderwood s score of 584 was also a career high. Goig i to the NRA Sectioal, Harrigto had yet to otch a score above 575 i air rifle all seaso. However, the sophomore from New Richmod, Wis., shot a career-high shatterig score of 584 at the sectioal ad icreased her seaso average from 570.67 to 572.375. While Uderwood ad Harrigto made the most drastic improvemets, several other Huskers shot seaso-high scores as well icludig Kristia Fehligs i smallbore (591) ad Kim Chrostowski i air rifle (589). No Boys Allowed Not oly are the fourth-raked Huskers oe of the NCAA s smallest teams with just seve active members, they are also the oly program to qualify for the NCAA Champioships made up etirely of wome. I fact, the Huskers are also oe of oly two teams i the Great America Rifle Coferece without a male competitor, the other beig Ole Miss. I a sport typically domiated by me, most of the atio s top teams are co-ed. But Nebraska has take a differet route with a all-female team ad a female head coach i Laui Meili ad has achieved moumetal success for it. Of the other five teams slated to compete at the NCAA Champioships, each is at least 58 percet male ad cotai betwee 10 ad 12 shooters per squad.
