Madrid Tour ISSUE 01 3 Over half term 18 'football mad' students from Charles Read Academy embarked on a once in a lifetime football tour of Real Madrid. On Saturday 16th February the boys departed Charles Read Academy for 5 days in the Spanish capital of Madrid where they took part in 4 elite coaching sessions delivered by coached from Real Madrid at the world class Valdabebas training facilities, Home of the Spanish giants. In addition, the boys also competed in 3 fixtures against local Spanish oppositions, watched Real Madrid take on Girona in a live La Liga match before taking in a behind the scenes tour of the Santiago Bernabeu. The trip didnt end there as the our included a cultural visit into the Madrid city centre where they did a bit of sight seeing before hitting the shops. MARCH 2019 ISSUE 03 CRA SPORT TABLE TENNIS PERFORMANCE CENTRE Dylan Selected for Team GB National School Finals Charles Read Academy's U16 Girls Table Tennis team kept their defence of the National Schools title alive after progressing from the Regional round, unbeaten The 2018 English Schools champions advanced to the finals which take place on Saturday 23rd March. The girls have already seen off competition from fellow Lincolnshire schools to win the County Championships before overcoming challenges from the best schools in Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Lancashire, Suffolk and Norfolk. Charles Read Academy are delighted to announce that CRA Table Tennis scholar and year 10 student, Dylan Tynan has been selected to represent Great Britain at the Spanish Open later this month. Dylan, pictured in his brand new Team GB kit joined the Table Tennis programme in September which has seen his level of performance improve greatly leading to the recent call up to the GB squad. Well done Dylan everyone at CRA is proud of your achievements. Delight for Scholars at Blackpool 4* IIt was a brilliant half term for three of the Table Tennis scholars who competed in Blackpool as Jodie, Dylan and Danielle put in excellent performances. The competition saw Jodie complete and amazing victory in the Junior Band 1 competition where she finished 1st beating a number of top players along the way. Dylan also won the banded competition in the boys event following another great individual display. It didnt stop there for the scholars as Danielle reached the final and finished runner up in the Junior Girls open event. Up next for some of the academy's scholars is the National Championships. MARCH 2019 ISSUE 03 PERFORMANCE CONFERENCE On Friday 25th Janury, four extremely talented student from Charles Read Academy were invited to attend the DRET Performance Conference, held at the David Ross Sports Village at the University of Nottingham. The conference provided high performing sports students from across the David Ross Education Trust access to a number of elite workshops aimed at supporting their future development. Students were provided with insights into the life of an elite athlete and workshops that covered nutrition, injury prevention and rehabilitation, strength and conditioning as well as peak performance workshops. The workshops and practical sessions were delivered by Olympic athletes Joe Roebuck and Jenny Meadows who were on hand throughout the duration of the conference to share expert advice and information. This is another example of the amazing opportunities and networking that students at the David Ross Education Trust have access to thanks to the DRET Inspiration Fund.
ISSUE 01 3 ALLSTARS February half term saw the U13 DRET Allstars back in action as they took on Boston United Centre of Excellence in a friendly held at CRA. HOUSE RESULTS Last term saw over 60 students in year 7 & 8 represent their house teams in the Rugby 7s and Hockey events. Following a number of intense matches it was Newton who claimed victory in both competitions, remaining unbeaten in both the hockey and rugby. Throughout the competition students displayed excellent attitude and teamwork. two CRA students, Harvey and MaCauley made appearances for the trusts Allstars in a tough match, played against a team one year group up. Despite the difference in height and strength the boys matched Boston for ability in an entertaining game. Well done. House competitions return over the next few weeks as students compete in Table Tennis. LINCOLNSHIRE SCHOOLS Talented runner, Amy Crook qualified for the Regional round of the English Schools Cross Country event where she was selected to represent Lincolnshire. Amy breezed through the early rounds where she represented CRA in Stamford at the Kesteven Schools round and qualified for the county championships leading to her selection to represent the District. Amy went on to run for Kesteven in the county championships where she finished in the qualifying spots and secured a position for the Regional championships held in Northampton. This is an excellent achievement for Amy who is a year 10 student running in an U17 event. Well done.
SPRING CUP NOVEMBER 2017 ISSUE 01 On Tuesday 5th March over 400 students from across the David Ross Education Trust's secondary academies will travel to Nottingham to compete in the annual Spring Cup. The Spring Cup consists of a Hockey and Rugby competition, attracting some of the best players from across the trust. Previously, CRA have only been in a position to field hockey teams however this year the academy are set to compete in the Rugby 7s event, providing even more opportunities for students within the academy to gain competitive experience in more sports. In recent years Charles Read Academy have performed really well at the event, reaching the semi finals on two occasions and winning the plate competition in consecutive attempts. The 2019 squad are heading into the event with confidence and are determined to make another successful go of it this year. The teams for th eveent have been announced and you can keep up to date with all the action throughout the day by following @CRASport and DRETsport on twitter. Well done and good luck to everyone who has been selected. X-COUNTRY The DRET events don't stop there. Following the Spring Cup. on Thursday 21st March, Neville Holt will play host to the annual DRET Cross Country Cup. The annual event attracts students from across the trust, including both secondary and primary children, to take on the physically demanding Leicestershire countryside. The event which requires grit and determination, as well as mental toughness, brings out the best in CRAs young athletes who have performed excellently in recent years. Students have achieved lots of success at this event including a number of medal finishes, top 5 positions and personal bests. CRA will be selecting 15 runners to represent the academy at the Cross Country Cup, from students who have been attending training and working towards the event. The full squad will be selected W/C 11th March via Instagram @SportatCRA.
TERM 4 TIMETABLE TERM 3 STAR ATTENDERS KEEP UP TO DATE... Year 8's Tyler & Ellis top the star attenders board for the boys accessing 40 sports sessions each during term 1 and Danielle took part in 19 sessions to top the girls leader board. Sports participation has been excellent once again at CRA with over 50% of the school accessing at least 5 sessions of sport, either through clubs or fixtures, during the first term of the year.
