Prince Albert Raiders Game Notes RAIDER REVIEW: The Raiders woes against the Moose Jaw Warriors continued on Tuesday, as the fell 4-3 to their division rivals at Mosaic Place. 17-year-old forward Reid Gardiner opened the scoring as the Raiders held a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission. In the second, the Warriors scored twice, interrupted by a shorthanded marker by 19-year-old winger Carson Perreaux, to tie the game heading to the third period. Moose Jaw took the lead before 19-year-old forward Chance Braid responded, but the Warriors took the lead late in regulation and held on for the win. 20-year-old goaltender Cole Cheveldave stopped 33 of 37 shots faced in a losing cause. VS THE HURRICANES: The Raiders have split a pair of games with Lethbridge so far this season, including an 8-2 victory at the Art Hauser Centre. 19-year-old right-winger Dakota Conroy has 4 goals and an assist in the season series to lead the Raiders offence. NEW FACES: The Raiders have acquired 20-year-old winger Collin Valcourt and 18-year-old defenceman Ryan Coghlan from the Saskatoon Blades in exchange for 20-year-old defenceman Dylan Busenius and a pair of draft picks in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft. The Raiders also executed a second trade, sending 19-year-old winger Mike Winther to the Calgary Hitmen for 19-year-old forward Calder Brooks and a 2 nd round selection in 2014. THE MAN ADVANTAGE: The Raiders currently have the second ranked powerplay in the WHL with a 26% success rate. 18-year-old defenceman Josh Morrissey leads the team with 8 powerplay goals, while 17-year-old forward Reid Gardiner and 19-year-old winger Dakota Conroy have 7 in the campaign. NO HOLIDAY HANGOVER: 17-year-old forward Reid Gardiner has returned from the holiday break with 5 goals and 3 assists in 4 games played, along with a plus-6 rating. GETTING THE CALL: The Raiders called up 17-year-old defenceman Ben Verrall (Moose Jaw Generals, SMAAAHL) and 17-year-old goaltender Rylan Parenteau (Weyburn Red Wings, SJHL). SENT DOWN: The Raiders have re-assigned 17-year-old forward Lance Yaremchuk to the Prince Albert Mintos of the SMAAAHL. WORLD JUNIORS Raiders captain, 18-year-old defenceman, Josh Morrissey is with Team Canada at the 2014 World Junior Hockey Championships in Malmo, Sweden, along with 18-year-old centre Leon Draisaitl who is representing his home nation of Germany. Draisaitl is the German Co-Captain. Morrissey has recorded one assist and is a plus-2 through 3 games, while Draisaitl has 2 assists and 52 penalty minutes. UNDER-17 CHALLENGE: 16-year-olds Matteo Gennaro, Nick McBride and Brendan Guhle are all with Team Pacific at the 2014 World Under -17 Challenge in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Team West is off to an 1-1-0-0 start, falling to Quebec before besting West 6-3 yesterday. McBride got the start against Quebec, stopping 18 of 22 shots faced in a losing effort. Guhle picked up an assist in the win over West, while Gennaro scored twice and added an assist. MILESTONES: 19-year-old forward Carson Perreaux is one goal shy of matching his previous season high of 12. 19-year-old winger Dakota Conroy is one goal from 50 in his career and 20-year-old netminder Cole Cheveldave is 41 saves from 3500. UPCOMING GAMES: The Raiders host the Calgary Hitmen on January 7 th before heading to Brandon for a pair of dates against the Wheat Kings on the 10 th and 11 th. The Green and Gold will play 3 games in 3 nights the following weekend, starting in Saskatoon on the 17 th, followed by visits from the Pats on the 18 th and Broncos on the 19 th.
Lethbridge Hurricanes Game Note Raiders: Lethbridge and Prince Albert have split the first two games of their series so far. In late November the Raiders hammered the Canes 8-2 at the Art Hauser Centre. PA native Bryton Sayers opened the scoring, and then it was 8 straight from the Raiders before Griffin Foulk scored the final goal of the game. The Canes were outshot 53-22 with Boes and Teagan Sacher (who made his first start for Lethbridge) combined for 45 saves in the loss. On December 6 th, the Canes skated to a 3-1 win with Russ Maxwell, Tyler Wong and Riley Sheen all scoring while Macoy Erkamps added two assists. The Hurricanes enter the game with a record of 4-5-0-1 in their last 10 while Prince Albert lost 4-3 to Moose Jaw Tuesday and they re 3-7 in their past 10. Wong (26 pts.), Ramsay and Maxwell (25 pts. each) continue to lead the way offensively while the Raiders are led by Leon Draisaitl has 51 points and Collin Valcourt 41. Last Game: vs. Pats, 6-3 Win: The Hurricanes opened up 2014 with a New Year s Day tilt with Regina. Eight (8) minutes into the game, Griffin Foulk s point shot went off a Regina D-man (Jesse Zgraggen) and found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead and that s how things stood after the first. The Hurricanes blew the game open with 3 goals in just 52 seconds in the opening 2 minutes of the second period. Tyler Bell scored for a 2-0 lead, 19 seconds later Reid Duke scored his 8 th of the year and that was all for goalie Nick Schneider. His backup Dawson MacAuley didn t fare much better because Riley Sheen scored 31 seconds after the goalie change. The Hurricanes with 3 goals on 3 shots and they led it 4-0. Later in the period Sheen scored again making it a 5-0 lead, MacAuley was pulled and the Pats rode Schneider the rest of the way. Regina would score before the end of the period as Kyle Burroughs point shot beat Boes and it was 5-1. The Pats made it interesting with a pair of goals by Connor Gay and Chandler Stephenson in the 3 rd, but Russ Maxwell scored an empty netter to seal the 6-3 win although the Canes were outshot 49-33.
