Prime dispatch Edition 109 06/04/2016 Compiled by Joe o Neill Hijack Hussy to run at Sandown on Saturday Bring on the rain!!! Racing NSW and the Australian Turf Club should be very pleased with the first day of The Championships. We witnessed some amazing performances with Winx s win in the Doncaster being unbelievable. I gave her no hope turning for home but her class got her there aided by a superb Hugh Bowman ride. Chautauqua s win in the TJ Smith was also an exceptional performance. One of the highlights of the day was that the meeting was not dominated by one or two stables with the spoils nicely spread. The 30 placings on the day were spread amongst 23 stables with twenty three Australian bred, five NZ bred and two European bred horses filling the placings. The Provincial and Country Championship Series are a highlight for many of the followers from outside of Sydney with the qualifying races conducted around the state creating unprecedented interest in their regions as horses attempt to qualify for the $400,000 finals. Page 1

The weather in Sydney has been a major influence on this Carnival more often than we would like to remember in recent years and unfortunately we have a rain affected track once again for this Saturday s meeting. Good luck to our trainers with runners particularly John Thompson with Auvray, Zanbah and Honesta and Kris Lees with Lucia Valentina in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Zanbah and Lucia Valentina are very good wet track runners. Kris Lees is also a chance of having as many as nine of the fifteen runners in the $400,000 Provincial Championship Final. We have By Golly Molly in this race and won t want it too wet. Other runners of interest to us are Powerline and Electric Power which are out of the Prime Thoroughbreds syndicated mares Graphite Lass and Miss Polanas and Danish Twist a ½ sister to our handy galloper Unique. Supara a starter in the Coolmore Legacy Stakes is out of Unabated. Preferment and Hauraki are out of Better Alternative and Youthful Presence which were mares that were purchased as yearlings by Bill Mitchell when I was his racing manager. ON THE TRACK This Saturday we will have metropolitan runners in three states with Hijack Hussy at Sandown, Husson Boots at Doomben and By Golly Molly qualifying for the rich Provincial Final at Royal Randwick. Heavy rain is falling in Melbourne as I write this dispatch which should help Hijack Hussy. This is a great effort and we have a couple of nice chances. I know the excitement generated by By Golly Molly s getting into the Provincial Final has really given her owners a thrill. She is only a three year old taking on the older horses but she has earned a crack at the big money on offer. She will be ridden by Chad Schofield. We had a bit of a frustrating day on Saturday with Flying Jess running a terrific 3 rd at Werribee. She was distracted by the horse beside her going off and was slowly away. She was well ridden by Nathan Rose who didn t panic and allowed to balance up before producing a terrific run in the straight for third. Vision of her run can be viewed at: https://www.racing.com/form/2016-04-02/werribee/race/3/results Page 2

Up at the Gold Coast More Than A Rose was always going to need a nice tempo which we didn t get and her effort to finish 4 th was very good. She is ready to step up to 2200m with her most likely to run at the Gold Coast on 16 April. PATRICK PAYNE A BIG SUCCESS STORY FOR PRIME THOROUGHBREDS It is always a tough job when I pick a new trainer for our horses and I had been keen to bring Patrick Payne on board for some time after he did a good job rejuvenating a couple of our older horses. Look at these results for the five yearlings I have syndicated with him. On Monday at Tatura the 5 th Honolulu Lass ran a nice 2 nd in a barrier trial and is set to head to the races. Patrick's other four yearling syndications for Prime Thoroughbreds Husson Eagle, Atalanta Miss, invincible Al and Hussy's Glow cost $164,500 and have won $1,008,007 in stakes earnings!!! It certainly was a good decision to give him some yearlings to train and I have enjoyed watching him mature as a trainer. I have included information on the Delago Deluxe filly I purchased him at the Inglis Classic Sale. She is a cracking type and is at the breakers and will be aimed at the early two year old races. Only one Delago Deluxe was sold at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale yesterday with it fetching $240,000 which continued the strong run his yearlings have enjoyed at this year s sales. As I inspected his yearlings this year I am confident he will make it as a sire. INGLIS EASTER YEARLING SALES The results from the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale have been amazing and certainly vindicated my decision to jump in early and purchase our yearlings. The yearlings we have on offer are great value when you consider these results. Hinchinbrook had just the one yearling sell yesterday which was a full brother to our filly Brooklyn Lass which I purchased for $70,000 at last year s Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale. He full brother sold for $1,000,000. That s right $1,000,000!!! Three I Am Invincible s sold for $790,000 for an average of $263,000. Nine Sebring s fetched $1,870,000 for an average of $207,000. A ½ brother to Awasita and Maldicion by Delago Deluxe sold for $240,000 and a Reset colt out of Unabated sold for $200,000. A ½ brother to Naranja by Commands sold for $200,000. Page 3

Mossman Colt out of Nephtys 2014 10 shares @ $12,000 each (5% shares available) Kris Lees to train The colt Mossman needs little introduction to our owners. He is a superb sire and once again sits in the top 15 of the Australian Sires Premiership. This colt oozes quality which is a good sign with the progeny of Mossman. I was really taken by him when he was paraded at the Inglis Classic Sale and he comes from a very good farm in Torryburn Stud. The colt is very athletic and I expect he will get up and run as a two year old. Mossman Mossman has been a big success since he started his stud career and to date has sired 380 winners with 55 stakes horses to his credit. His best progeny have been Buffering, Mossfun, Ofcourseican, Neeson, Love Conquers All and the list goes on. He is particularly potent when crossed with Danehill and his sons and grandsons mares with 16 of his stakes horses being bred on these lines. I have always been a big fan of Mossman and will continue to support him when the right yearling comes along. Buffering s win in the Group I Al Quoz Sprint (1000m) on the turf at Meydan in Dubai on 26 March was Page 4

another great advertisement for Mossman and also a terrific boost for the Australian breeding industry. It isn t well known that Mossman has far less horses representing him on the track than most of the other sires the top 15 on the Australian General Sires List. This is due to him serving limited books of mares in recent years. He has been well managed by Vinery Stud. Mossman s son Love Conquers All is currently the leading First Season Sire in Australia which further highlights the achievements of this unsung hero of the Australian breeding industry. Nephtys Nephtys is by the great broodmare sire Redoute s Choice. Redoute s Choice is the youngest sire of the top 10 on the Broodmare sire s list in Australia and currently sits in 5 th position. The best progeny out of his daughters include Sacred Falls, Pasadena Girl, Zoustar and Stay With Me. In all he has 81 stakes performers in his 393 winners which is a great conversion rate. Redoute s Choice as a Sire has statistics that are almost without peer in Australia. He has sired 129 stakes winners, a further 101 stakes placed horses and has proven to be an amazing sire of sires with Not A Single Doubt and Snitzel heading the way for him. Nephtys comes from a very good female line that includes the Group 1 winner Star Shiraz. There are a number of good two year old winners in the family which is a good pointer that this colt born on 19 August could well get up and get running early. He ticks all the boxes and I m looking forward to his racing career. He is a terrific athlete. I have decided to pay him up for the rich Inglis Series of races. Invincible Al (I Am Invincible Miss Alberta) as a yearling Heading to the Listed Anzac Day Stakes at Flemington Page 5

I AM INVINCIBLE FILLY SUPER VOBIS QUALIFIED DARREN WEIR TO TRAIN I Am Invincible Light Waves filly 10 shares @ $9,900 each (5% shares available) The filly pictured above is a terrific filly by the outstanding young sire I Am Invincible from the well related mare Light Waves. I rated her as equal or better than the other I Am Invincible fillies in the sale that fetched $145,000 and $155,000. She is a very good type of filly with a good hindquarter, great conformation and a attractive head. She is very deep in the girth which I really like. She vetted out without any issues and was offered by Middlebrook Valley Lodge in the Hunter Valley. The filly is Super VOBIS eligible and will be paid up for the rich scheme. The filly is an October foal and will be broken in in March with a view to giving her every chance to run as a two year old. Page 6

I Am Invincible I Am Invincible was Australia s Leading First season Sire in 2013/14 Season by both stakes money and individual winners. In fact in his first season he gapped the opposition with as many winners as the next three sires on the list. In his second season he continued the good work finishing 2 nd to Medaglia d Oro for the stakes earnings. Medaglia d Oro figures were somewhat distorted with him having the Golden Slipper winner which accounted for over half his stakes earnings. Once again I Am Invincible had the most individual winners in this year. 55.1% of I Am Invincible s runners won during the season with him being the only sire in the top 10 on the 2 nd season list standing in Australia to break the half century. At the completion of the 2014/15 Season he was 3 rd to Fastnet Rock and Street Cry on the National 3 Year Old List with both these sires having far stronger books of mares than I Am Invincible. I Am Invincible s duel Group 1 winning son Brazen Beau has been purchased by Darley and is standing this season at a service fee of $44,000. He was also placed 2 nd in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot. I Am invincible had his service fee raised to $55,000 this breeding season and was fully booked out in a matter of days and Yarraman Park are already taking bookings for next season. Light Waves Light Waves is by the Woodman sire Way Of Light who stood briefly in Australia. Woodman s daughters have done a remarkable job in Australia with the Champion sire being the broodmare sire for Miss Finland, Mamool,Lad Of The Manor, Hurtle Myrtle, Herculian Prince, Éclair Choice, Rothesay and Firebolt to name a few. In all Woodman is the broodmare sire to 200 stakes winners. Light Waves has had just the one foal race which is a winner. Her family includes some very good gallopers including Doctor Doom, Cymbals, Kingwin and Ombra Della Sera. I am thrilled to have this filly join our team and look forward to her wearing our colours. Page 7

OUTSTANDING HUSSONET FILLY OUT OF STAKES WINNING MARE TONY GOLLAN TO TRAIN Hussonet Miss Piggy Bank 10 shares @ $7,500 each (5% shares @ $3,750) The filly This is a very attractive filly. He is well grown, has a deep girth, beautiful head and great hindquarter. The moment I inspected her in Adelaide I was certain I would purchase her provided she vetted out without any issues. This was the case and a vet report is enclosed in this package. I have had wonderful success with Hussonet s daughters. In all I have syndicated three with all getting to the races. Hijack Hussy was a stakes winner at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day and Huiskes was a two year old stakes winner. Hussy s Glow was stakes placed recently in the TTC Gold Sovereign stakes. In total Hussonet has had 1011 foals to race with 96 stakes winners (9.5%) and a further 79 stakes placed (7.8%). For us to purchase three fillies with 2 stakes winners (66%) and a further stakes placed is a remarkable effort. Hussonet (USA) Hussonet (USA) is one of the very best sires to have stood in Australia in the past decade with his progeny including the outstanding Weekend Hussler, Husson, Wild Spirit, Host, Eagle Falls, Gold Trail and Reaan being some of his 30 Group 1 winners. In total he has had 96 stakes winners Page 8

including our very good fillies Hijack Hussy and Huiskes. I was also the under bidder on the Stakes winning Hussonet filly Member s Joy. It is important to plan ahead. Hussonet s daughters are now well sought after broodmares with good results being achieved crossing them with the many sons and grandsons of Danehill we have standing at stud in Australia. Hussonet and his sons are also working in reverse with Danehill line mares. Hijack Hussy is the result of this potent cross. Hopefully this filly can follow the racetrack success of Hijack Hussy, Huiskes and Hussy s Glow and secure a future for herself at stud after her racing career is completed. Hussonet has jumped from 173 rd to 20 th in only his 3 rd season on the broodmare list in Australia. The best known of the runners out of his daughters is the Blue Diamond winner Extreme Choice. Hussonet came to Australia as a relatively old horse from a stud perspective but has had a remarkable impact here. Miss Piggy Bank Miss Piggy Bank is by the successful sire Secret Savings and was a nice racemare winning twice and being stakes placed. She comes from a very successful family with the first four dams producing 21 to race for 17 individual winners. I love buying out of families where there is a Champion mare on the page. This is the case here with the 4 th dam Par Excellance being the top filly on the 1979 Canadian 2YO Fre Handicap. Miss Piggy Bank has had one to foal to race with it winning 11 races. Hijack Hussy winning at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day!!! Page 9

OUTSTANDING TWO YEAR OLD TYPE BY CHAMPION TWO YEAR OLD DELAGO DE LUXE Delago Deluxe filly out of Miss Cacciatore 2014 $9,900 per 10% share (5% shares available) Patrick Payne to train The filly This filly was a real standout for me at the Inglis Classic Sale. She is a very strong well balanced filly with a powerful shoulder and great hindquarter. I was very impressed with the progeny of Delago Deluxe I inspected at the Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale but the ones I was on were simply too expensive. I am pleased I waited for the Classic Sale as this filly is what I was after. I m confident Delago Deluxe will be a big success at stud and I wouldn t be at all surprised if he is the Champion First Season Sire in 2016/17 Season. This filly reminds me a lot of the good Encosta de Lago fillies I have inspected over the years. Delago Deluxe Delago Deluxe has four vital ingredients that could well see him as a great success in Australia. Firstly he was a very fast two year old which has been a good pointer in the past for many of our great sires. Secondly, he comes from on of the very best female lines in the Australian Studbook. He is out of a Flying Spur mare who is a daughter of Champion broodmare Staging. A close look at his pedigree sees some outstanding horses high up on the pedigree page. Thirdly, he has been chosen to stand at Newhaven Park. The Kelly family have been very selective Page 10

over the years when choosing sires to stand at their famous nursery. Sires to have stood successfully at Newhaven include Wilkes, Luskin Star, Zeditave, Marauding and Agricola. Finally and probably most important he stamps his progeny which is a great asset for any sire. Miss Cacciatore Miss Cacciatore is by Snitzel who has established himself firstly as a great sire and more recently his contribution as a broodmare sire has been hard not to be impressed by. There have been just 8 horses race out of Snitzel mares with one being the Golden Slipper winner Mossfun. Miss Cacciatore comes from a very good female line which includes some very good two year old winners. There is also a lot of depth in this pedigree. Her 2 nd dam won the WA Oaks. I love buying out of families where an Oaks winner is on the page with many of our very best horses having this trait. Also on the pedigree page is Zero Drama one of Prime Thoroughbreds very best horses. I am really looking forward to this filly racing and feel I purchased her well under the odds. By Golly Molly as a yearling A $60,000 purchase for Prime Thoroughbreds Running in ATC $400,000 Provincial Final at Randwick Saturday Page 11
