I am a rodeo cowboy who loves Jesus and wants to bring others to know Him. I am a Lifetime Gold Card Member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. VISION: Reach rodeo cowboys and cowgirls with the Good News that Jesus loves them and Jesus Saves. Through this, their families, friends, and the many people they contact around the world, including ranchers and others in the horse and livestock industry will know God cares for them and Jesus is Lord. EXPECTATION: See people saved, set free, healed spiritually, physically, and emotionally, filled with the Holy Sprit, and living a life pleasing to God. Kathy Digging In And Turning Kathy Petska- Fighting the Good Fight of Faith When the move of God began in a mighty way during the mid 1970 s and 1980 s on the Rodeo Trail it changed a nationthe nation of Rodeo Cowboys and Cowgirls. People began stepping up to live for Jesus Christ. They began to let the love and light of God shine through to others. They began trusting in God and seeing salvations, signs, wonders, and miracles. Faith in the power of Jesus name began to grow. The power of the Holy Spirit was evident. Certain ones were noticeable as being solid and strong in their faith. Even if you did not spend much time together you knew they loved the Lord. They were Christians and you knew it by the Spirit living in them and by the way they handled life. Monty Joe and Kathy Petska were two of them. Are You A Follower of Jesus? This Month s Message by Ronnie Christian Are you a believer in Jesus? Are You A Disciple of Christ Jesus? Are You A Follower of Jesus? Are you being conformed into the image of Christ? Have you repented of your sins and does your lifestyle show it? Repent means to change your mind and direction. But you first must allow the Holy Spirit to change your heart. This happens when you make Jesus the Lord of your life. Many people want a Savior, but they do not want a Lord. Lord means Adonai, Master, the Boss, and the Leader. Remember, Jesus is the King of Kings, and Ruler of the earth. He is coming again for His own who love and trust Him, and follow Him. Lordship will change your desires, and will change your lifestyle. Being a disciple and follower of Jesus Christ will start by being a believer. Do you believe that Jesus is the Son of God? Jesus is Lord! Do you believe that? Do you believe that He was crucified and died for our sins, and that he rose again on the third day? That belief will bring you salvation. That belief will cause you to confess Jesus before men. That belief will give you eternal life in Heaven with God the Father. Romans 10:8-10, 13 8 But what does it say? The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, 9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. 13 for Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved. Bible belief in Jesus causes an action. Everyone who came to Jesus to follow Him came one way, and left another-better than when they came. Have you ever called on the name of the Lord? The disciples and followers of Jesus repented and were baptized. See Acts 2:38 Peter said to them, Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Some want to be baptized, but do not want to repent and change their lifestyle. Many will join a church, but never repent of their sinful lifestyle. Are You A Follower of Jesus? continued from page 1 I become a Christian? They act just like the rest of the world. But that is not what Jesus intended for you. He has a better plan for us. He gives abundant life to us. When we sin we block our blessings. When we live as Jesus taught we open ourselves for blessings-blessings of love, joy and the peace that only comes from God. Jesus is the Prince of Peace. The fruit of the Holy Spirit gives us peace. He gives direction and purpose in life. He gives us a good destiny and helps us reach our destiny. We can have peace of mind and peace of heart. When we invite Jesus into our heart and lives our body becomes a temple of the Holy Spirit. He will lead and guide you through life. The Holy Spirit will give you boldness to live for Christ Jesus, will give you power over the enemy. He will equip you to win in life. He will show you and help you to become a difference maker in the earth for the kingdom of God. The disciples were first called Christians at Antioch. Why do you suppose they called them Christians? Because they were Christ like. They loved God; they loved their neighbor. They were quick to repent when they sinned. They forgave when wronged. They sinned less. They walked in power over demons and cast them out. They resisted the devil s temptations. They helped the poor. They knew the power in the blood of Jesus. They prayed for the sick and they were healed. They grew to be more like Jesus. They honored the Son, Jesus Christ, and the Father in Heaven. They listened to the Holy Spirit and did what He said to do. They brought others to know Jesus as Savior and Lord. Being a Disciple and a Follower requires more effort than just saying, I believe. A disciple is more disciplined. A disciple is not attracted to sin and temptation as much as he once was. A disciple is not interested in sinning as he once was. A disciple will resist temptation more readily. A disciple will walk in the love of God and treat people kindly. A disciple will love God and love his neighbor. A disciple will be about the Father s will. A disciple will work the works of Jesus. A disciple will lead others to Jesus Christ. A disciple will promote the gospel to the world. A disciple will raise up a standard of righteousness. Disciples of Christ are good examples in the world. A disciple will be a follower of Jesus and not just sit by and watch others follow. Jesus did not say to go and make converts. Mark 16 17 These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover. 19 So then, when the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them, and confirmed the word by the signs that followed. Jesus will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and fire. He gave us authority and power to be witnesses of who He is. That power comes from the Holy Spirit. To be baptized is to be immersed, to be filled to overfilling. The fire will burn the junk and sin out, and fire you up to serve Him. Luke 3:16 John answered and said to them all, As for me, I baptize you with water; but One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to untie the thong of His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. Signs and wonders will follow when Jesus baptizes you in the Holy Spirit. See Acts 4:29-31 29 And now, Lord, take note of their threats, and grant that Your bondservants may speak Your word with all confidence, 30 while You extend Your hand to heal, and signs and wonders take place through the name of Your holy servant Jesus. 31 And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with boldness.. And this was the report in Acts 4:33 And with great power the apostles were giving testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and abundant grace was upon them all. Then they began to see many turn their hearts to Jesus and receive Him. They walked in the power of God. They saw God work miracles in peoples lives. He will do that for you also. Ask Him to. Several people asked Jesus about following Him, and then they would make excuses why they had something else to do first. Others dropped what they were doing and immediately followed Him. Those became true believers, true disciples, and true followers. They became agents of change for the kingdom of heaven. See the contrast in these people. Luke 9:57 57 As they were going along the road, someone said to Him, I will follow You wherever You go. 58 And Jesus said to him, The foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head. 59 And He said to another, Follow Me. But he said, Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father. 60 But He said to him, Allow the dead to bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim everywhere the kingdom of God. 61 Another also said, I will follow You, Lord; but first permit me to say good-bye to those at home. 62 But Jesus said to him, continued on page 3 2

continued from page 2 Are You A Follower of Jesus? No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. Look at Levi who was also called Matthew. Matthew 9:9 As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man called Matthew, sitting in the tax collector s booth; and He *said to him, Follow Me! And he got up and followed Him. Luke reports it this way. Luke 5:27-28 27 After that He went out and noticed a tax collector named Levi sitting in the tax booth, and He said to him, Follow Me. 28 And he left everything behind, and got up and began to follow Him. When you follow Jesus the Father will honor you. John 12:26 If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him ARE YOU READY TO FOLLOW JESUS? Sin keeps you from Heaven. Sin brings death. Jesus came to give life, abundant life and eternal life. Would you like to become a believer, a disciple, a follower of Jesus Christ. He is the way to heaven. He is the way to become a winner in life. Are you ready to follow Jesus Christ and receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord of your life. Are you ready to repent and change your heart, mind, and direction? Pray: Lord forgive my sins. I believe Jesus died on the cross to wash my sins away, and rose again on the third day. I receive Jesus now as my Savior and Lord. I receive eternal life. Help me to live a life pleasing to my Father in Heaven. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen (Read Romans 3:10; 3:23; 5:8-9; 6:23; 10:9-10, 13; John 3:16; Luke 11:13; Acts 1:8; Acts 2:38). Read the Bible daily, pray daily, get water baptized, ask Jesus to baptize you in the Holy Spirit, meet often with other believers. Live in the fruit of the Holy Spirit. See Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,23 gentleness, self-control; against such things The Baptism of Fire: Lord Jesus I know I need power to be an over comer in life and serve you with power. I ask You, Jesus, right now to baptize me in the Holy Spirit and Fire. Kathy Petskacontinued from page 1 Monty Joe grew up in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Kathy grew up in Turlock, California where they reside now, and they have lived there since 1989, when they were married. God knows Kathy put her together with Monty Joe. Here she was, working as a cement truck driver in California and she meets a rodeo cowboy from New Mexico. After they married her love for riding horses and opportunities to compete became real. She started barrel racing after she met Monty. And she also began team roping as a header. This story is mostly about Kathy and the trials God has brought her through and is still bringing her through. She had a horse accident and suffered a broken femur in 2008. Today she is competing at a high level in the Barrel Racing. First let s get a little rodeo history on them. Monty Joe is a 14 times Qualifier at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in the Team Roping Event as a Heeler in that event. He won the NFR Average with his brother, Paul Petska, in 1986. And he has won and placed at many large PRCA rodeos over the decades. He is a quiet man who let s his roping do the talking. Kathy Petska is a member of the Women s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA). She contested in the Barrel Racing at the Ram National Circuit Finals Rodeo (RNCFR) held in Kissimmee, Florida this year in April 2018 (a few weeks before we published this issue). She qualified from the California Circuit. Competing at the RNCFR are two contestants from each of the twelve PRCA Circuits across the USA, and Mexico will also send contestants. They were there when we did this interview. She has also roped and competed with Monty and others over the years as a Header in the Team Roping. Her main barrel horse is an 9 year old she raised and trained who she named Jeffrey. She says the way she acquired the horse included a lot of people, and he is a gift from God. Bugsy, her backup horse is just as nice she says. It is a blessing to own a good horse you can compete and win on, and it a double blessing to have two. Kathy grew up around horses and livestock. Her dad was part owner of a Livestock Sale Barn. Her mother was a Banker. She drew knowledge from both. She hung out and worked with her Dad and worked at the Sale Barn. Kathy grew up riding horses as she worked with Dad. She did not grow up going to rodeos very much. She went to a few junior rodeos and some High School Rodeos. Her mom taught her about investing. Kathy does her own stock market investing and has been successful with that business. God has blessed her with wisdom to see what is going on in the business world and when and what to invest in. It can be a fun life, a challenging life, and sometimes a dangerous life. Kathy is an accomplished cowgirl and horse trainer. However with animals things can go wrong very quickly. Kathy had an accident involving her horse in 2008. She broke the femur bone in her leg. The break was a very bad break. Not only did it break the bone, but it affected her nerves and the nerve endings in her foot. The doctors wanted to remove her foot. That is when Monty s faith in Jesus rose up. He said, No! God can remove that foot, but not the doctor. Monty and Kathy knew and believed that Jesus is the Healer. She had what is called RSD. The doctor said, People don t beat that! Another doctor they knew looked at her foot and said that he would not want to amputate. Jesus healed her RSD. The doctor knows he did heal her and he says, Prayer beat it. The healing would take some time. But she kept the foot and functions well today. She has very little feeling in the leg, but she is able to work, ride, and compete. Eventually she had to learn to use the leg and walk again. It has been a battle that has tested her faith, but she is strong in the Lord and the power of His might. Ephesians 4:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Kathy did not attend church very often growing up because on Saturdays and Sundays she was at the Sale Barn working with Dad. Kathy and Monty Joe settled it, that Jesus is Lord, and began to grow in their relationship and their faith in God and His Word through the ministry and Cowboy Church services at rodeos. Cowboy Preachers like Glenn Smith, Coy Huffman, Larry Smith and others helped them in their walk with Jesus. Other rodeo cowboys and cowgirls began to encourage them also such as Monty s brother, Paul and his wife, Gail Petska. Fight of Faith continued from page 4 Hebrews 10:23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. Monty Joe and Kathy confess the Word of God over her leg and trust Him to complete the healing. Earlier it was stated that Monty Joe let s his rope do the talking. But when it comes to trusting God he let s the Word of God come out of his mouth and do the talking. The Word is powerful and will change the circumstances. Some Scriptures that they stood on and confessed were: Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. And Matthew 19:26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. Plus Jeremiah 32:17 Ah, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You. Kathy has fought the good fight of faith. She knows Jesus is our Healer. 1 Peter 2:24 by His stripes we are healed. This healing has not come fast. She came back strong and did well enough in the California Circuit to make the RNCFR. They praise God for that! Their faith in Jesus is what gets them through the battles back to walking in victory. The Bible says in Hebrews 12:2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter (finisher) of our faith That is the plan Monty and Kathy are sticking with. Monty has been in prayer and in the battle with her. Jesus is the Healer. She is doing what she can in the natural, and has trusted God to do the Super Natural. Praise God, she has come a long way to compete and win again. They continue to praise God and let their light shine for Him. Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see our good works and glorify your Father in heaven. They understand their blessings come from above, from the Father in heaven through His Son, Jesus Christ. They are lead by the Holy Spirit. We have been busy On the Trail for Jesus at the winter rodeos in Texas. Each year at this time we meet new rodeo cowboys and cowgirls who come from all over the country and other countries to the PRCA winter and spring rodeos in Texas. For many this is their first year in the PRCA or first year to travel this far. Some we encourage in their walk with Jesus. Some we introduce to the real Jesus who can save their soul and spirit. Some we minister healing to, and also show the power of God in today s world. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. (Hebrews 13:8) - so we keep seeing signs, wonders, and miracles. We keep seeing people come one way to Jesus and leave a better way, just like we read about in the Bible. I have been going to Los Fresnos, Tx PRCA Rodeo for about 24 years, since Rudy Vela was the Stock Contractor in 1995. Stace Smith Pro Rodeos is the stock Contractor now. Over the years I have been the Rodeo Judge at that rodeo, the Arena Director and mostly the on site Cowboy Preacher. The committee there always welcomes us to hold Cowboy Church in the Grandstands. They give us the rodeo P.A system so the Word of God goes out all over the arena and out to the parking lot. Many souls have been reached for Jesus there. Goliad, TX PRCA Rodeo committee is another place we have been welcomed for over 15 years. They too give us the Rodeo P.A. system, and the message at Cowboy Church goes out all over and around the arena. We get a lot of comments from people who could not make it to the Grandstands to the Cowboy Church service, but they heard the Word. When we get people under the sound of the Word the Holy Spirit of truth will move on their hearts, and do a good work in them. Lately I have been ministering at the rodeos and at the Risin Sun Cowboy Church in Trinity, TX on being a disciple, not a just a convert, or just a believer without much fruit for the kingdom. Jesus said, Follow Me! We are to be believers and followers of Jesus and become disciples who live as He did. Disciples require more discipline. Disciples are not tempted as easily. Disciples are not attracted to sin as they once were. Disciples bring others to Jesus. Several people made a fresh commitment, or a first time commitment to receive Jesus as Savior and Lord at a Cowboy Church Service we held today in Concan, TX. Western Sonrise Ministries from Blanco, TX did a super job with Christian Country Music and worship music with a Country Western touch. The person dressed in the Easter bunny suit was clapping and raising hands in praise to God. I asked the person if he (or she) knew Jesus and they nodded yes. So I had a first; I met a saved Easter Bunny. Ha-ha LOL. Our thanks goes to Anna Belle, Devan and those at the Tourism Department who invited us. We held the church at Neal s Dining on the outdoor patio, with the beautiful Hill Country surroundings. Jesus is risen from the dead. The Bible tells those who confess Jesus as Savior that the same Spirit that raised Jesus will raise our mortal bodies to eternal life. (Romans 8:11) The blood of Jesus washes our sins away, and reconciles us to God. Praise God! We also spoke to pain to leave peoples bodies, in Jesus Name. And we encouraged people to say I Receive It when we say, Peace be with you. The peace of God through Jesus is ours when we receive it. You can also say, I receive it. and receive peace. You can say, I receive it! when you hear, or think of the joy the Holy Spirit gives, and the blessings He provides and has promised. The people do at rodeos and other places where we share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. You can right where you are.
