Pateman further explained that Chaparra then continued to hang out quite badly and proved difficult to ride rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight and that when making the final two obstacles Chaparra jumped them in a very high manner and lost momentum, and in his opinion Chaparra was slightly disappointing. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

S. Pateman explained that he eased Kingdom Of War out of the race prior to the last hurdle as Kingdom Of War was not responding to his riding and was a beaten horse. T. Ryan rider of Cuzzy Bro explained that he eased the gelding out of the race at the entrance to the straight prior to the second last hurdle as it was not handling the track conditions and was also a beaten horse.
