April Baronial Business Meeting Minutes, March 6, 2013 I. Experimental Conference call taking place during the meeting. Ii Saburou Katsumori s cell phone used and passed around to the different speakers. Conference service used through an online free conference calling service. II. Open Officer positions Chronicler, Lady Amy Sparrow has volunteered to do the newsletter at least for the next year. M Lady Esa has volunteered to be deputy and potentially take over the position or just take over the position. M Lady Esa needs to be followed up with. III. Post Event Reports Defending the Gate Wrap of the Event, wonderful to see so many newcomers. Autocrat, Lady Genefe would like to see MORE volunteers. Seems to be the same old people and we need to encourage more people to help!!! IV. Upcoming Events and Activities a. Baronial Birthday 2013 Main Positions filled, a Port-o-Potty has been secured. Need field coordinator, Need to get together to do a site visit. Need to do insurance, possibly see if Running of the Lemmings insurance can be transferred. b. Kingdom Rapier and Costumers Symposium, It was reminded that this is to be a donation only event. This decision was made on the conference call meeting for March. c. Pennsic encampment Lord Erich von Klienfeld is camp coordinator for the barony. Barony is considering Collagen water treatment for Pennsic camp this year. Water is drinkable, doesn t taste bad. Isn t take much more then buying the bottled water. There is money in the camp fund and money left over from last year. We will determine at a later time if this is the way we want to go. d. Holiday Faire 2013 Lady Gunnora and Lord Grimm are on it. Contract has been signed and initial check sent to them. e. No extra cost for being onsite Friday at 3:00pm f. Lady Gunnora will bring budget next month g. Most positions still need to be filled. V. Baronial Birthday 2014 a. Still need Autocrat and site. Spiking early is better as no events can conflict within 150 miles. VI. Holiday Faire 2014 If we want a new site, this is the time to look. Potential places mentioned. Building with giant roller skate on Route 17 in Sudentorre. Keeping same date is important!!! VII. Kingdom Event bids Fall Coronation Due May 1 2013 and Unevent 2014 July 1st 2013. Defending the Gate Thank-Yous by Genefe Wolflein I wish to thank the following members of our Canton, our Barony, and our neighbors for helping to make this year's Defending the Gate happen. In no particular order, they are: Lady Wynn and the Bright Hills Cook's Guild for a delectable feast. Lady Anastasia of Sudentorre and Lord Oswin the...(i forget) for putting together, serving, and cleaning up after lunch for 300 people. Baron Flaithrí Ó Cearnaigh as Marshal in Charge! Duke Logan, Sir Turgeis, and company who organized and supervised not only the defending of the gate but the attacking of it too. Lord Godai for making sure our combat archers and fighters were safe while engaging. Maestro Dante di Pietro for his creative and enjoyable rapier competitions. Lady Sanada Katsumi for an artistic and challenging archery shoot. Mistress Ceridwen ferch Rhys ap Michael and company for keeping our list in check. Baroness Cairistiona de Coueran for organizing the field and running a very successful silent auction. Lady Miriel de Nedham and family for an efficiently run troll. Sara Van Erde for her fabulous A&S competitions. Mistress Rhonwen verch Tuder as royal liaison and for providing their majesties and highnesses with food and welcome. Lord Wulff Nuremberger for giving up his day of fun to do a job that no one wanted to do and only a handful of people offered to help with! Ich danke dir mein Lieber. Lord Erich von Kleinfeld for dealing with any injuries incurred in the pursuit of fun. Mistress Blitha of Wolfhou as a warm and welcoming chatelaine. Lady Rosaleen Robertson and lord for keeping our younger members thoroughly entertained. Lord Otel Altunat for (once again!) combining artistry and frugality in the creation of the site tokens. Lord Wiglaf and his lady for always finding time to say What can I help you with? Mistress Ceridwen ferch Owain for keeping poetry alive. Jaspar for making a TON of delicious cookies and Penny for playing the role of Easter bunny before the much anticipated egg-hunt. The Mary Washington Ren Club for doing odd jobs throughout the day and auctioning themselves off in a very entertaining way at feast. Lord Allen for donning the robes and curly pointed shoes of our auctioneer after organizing an atalatal skirmish. My dear friends Lord Frederick and Meisterin Felicity for traveling so far south to spend a day doing odd jobs. Their Excellencies Mors and Esperanza for attending our little event and all the assistance they provided throughout the day on Friday and Saturday.

I m sure I am forgetting people here so I will sum it up with everyone else who attended, stopped to lend a hand, and enjoyed the thirteenth annual Defending the Gate! Hope to see you again next year and while your thinking about next year, I have some positions to fill let me know if you are interested. Upcoming A&S at Baronial Birthday, June 22, 2013 by Amie Sparrow This year at Baronial Birthday, there will be an open display for all those wishing to show their work without judgment. Please bring your best A&S and show the barony what you've been working on! Works in progress are welcome! Remember, the Baronial A&S Champion is chosen at Baronial Birthday. In addition, House Turniva proudly presents the First EVER House Turniva Pentathlon Challenge. In order to participate in the Turniva Pentathlon Challenge, individuals must compete in five categories: Armored Combat, Rapier Combat, Target Archery, Thrown Weapons and Arts and Science. Each of the five events will have a weighted score and will count equally toward the overall challenge. The Challenge shall be run in the following manner: 1. A&S phase: Drop off you A&S entry at the designated local after checking in and setting up. Be sure to let the A&S coordinator that your entry is for the Pentathlon along with any other competitions taking place. The Muse for this Challenge is Atlantian symbols in the medium of your choice. Be it elements for heraldry, awards or anything that makes you think Atlantia. Some level of documentation is required for the process and medium. 2. Combat Phase: The R and AC fields will be run in a progressive bear pit in 2 blocks of 45 minutes. Each participant will have the opportunity to compete in both as there will be a 15 minute break in between each 45 minute block. E.G. Joe fighter starts in the AC list and fights for the first 45 minutes. During the break, Joe then switches to his R kit and then fights in the second 45 minute block on the R list. 3. Missile Phase: Upon completion of Phase 2, the pentathlon entrants will make their way to the TA and TW ranges. There will be a specific course of fire for each range. Details the day of the event. Time limit to completing Phase 3 is close of range. At the conclusion, all of the points will be tallied and the entrant with the overall highest score will be announced as the winner of the First EVER House Turniva Pentathlon. The winner will receive a $100.00 Gift Certificate to the SCA merchant of his/her choice. So come fight, shoot, thrown and create. For questions please contact Sir Turgeis or Mistress Sunniva.
