Camp Philosophy The camp s primary objective is to provide a quality learning experience for its participants. Equal opportunity and instruction will be offered to each individual at a level appropriate to helping them realize their potential. The camp programs will focus on the development of fundamental skills, and on improvements of overall fitness and knowledge of the basic concepts of the sport through competitive situations. Instruction will be provided by experienced and talented varsity athletes, as well as the head coaches. The athletic therapy facility will be available in case of emergency. Each participant will receive a camp T-Shirt and a Lancers logo basketball. Appropriate athletic attire is recommended (shorts, t-shirt, court footwear, extra socks). Camp participants should also bring a nutritious lunch. The last day of camp will feature an awards ceremony based on various events throughout Campers will not be allowed to leave the premises until the end of the day. Program Outline -Camp runs daily 9:00 am - 3:30 pm with a half-hour lunch. -Camper supervision will be available for 45-minutes prior to and following these times. -Additional supervision must be requested in writing -Daily morning station work in the fundamentals. -Station work will include: ball-handling, dribbling, passing, shooting, rebounding & individual defence. -Team offensive and defensive concepts will be covered in a daily team practice preceding league play. -Rules and team concepts reinforced through daily organized team play (camp league). -Camp leagues are organized according to age, sex, and overall ability. -Instruction is provided by top Lancer athletes and coaches. -Each camper will receive a camp t-shirt and a Lancers logo basketball. Special guest instructor session will feature Walker D. Russell (Scout) & Brian James (Assistant Coach) from the Toronto Raptors NBA Basketball Club. HEAD COACHES GEORGIA RISNITA -Georgia is entering her second season as Head Coach of the Lancer Women s team MIKE HAVEY -Spent the 1998-99 season as an Assistant Coach with the University of Victoria Vikings Women s team under legendary coach Kathy Shields -CIAU Athlete - University of Windsor Lancers 1994-98 -Three time National Rebounding Champion in the CIAU - Masters Degree in Education (Victoria) -Fully certified NCCP Level 3 coach -A clinician at basketball camps in Ontario, Quebec and B. C. -Has spent the past 9 seasons as the Head Coach of the Lancer Men s Basketball team -Previously spent six seasons as Head Coach and Athletic Director at Medicine Hat College -Two time (87/88 & 89/90) Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference Coach of the Year -CCAA Coaching Excellence Award recipient for men s basketball in 1990 -Varsity player for the University of Ottawa Gee Gees from 1978-81 -BPE (Ottawa 81) and MPE in Sports Administration (Ottawa 84) -Former employee with Fitness and Amateur Sport Canada and National Sport and Recreation Centre -Former regional coach in Alberta and Ontario Player Development Programs -Clinician at basketball camps in Alberta, Ontario and British Columbia -Fully certified NCCP Level 3 coach
