Meeting on handheld portable technology for detection of new drugs and other illicit or dangerous substances. The focus of this meeting will be on the exchange and sharing of experience on the use of detection instruments, in particular Raman portable handheld devices. The potential and limitations of these portable devices will be discussed based on the experience of laboratories and Customs which have already implemented these tools for routine controls. The objectives of the discussions are to establish and share good practice for selection, training of Customs officers for the correct use of handheld devices for in-field controls. The conclusions of the meeting will be communicated to the Customs Detection Technology Project Group (CDTPG). Who should attend: Customs chemists with knowledge in spectroscopy and technology of handheld and/or involved in future projects of purchase/selection of such equipment for Customs. Please note that the meeting will take place at the JRC-Geel, Belgium, on 13 and 14 June 2018 (09:00-17:30 on 13 June and 08:30-16:30 on 14 June). It will be held in English. One delegate per invited Member State (in addition to the Dutch Action 5 Leader and the Italian Action 1 Leader) can be reimbursed from the Customs 2020 budget under the conditions specified in the financial guide. The financial code is CPG/004/007. The delegates and invited experts should confirm their participation by 25 May 2018 at the latest, to CLEN-TAS@eurofins.com and to Inge VERBIST (Inge.VERBIST@ec.europa.eu) at JRC-Geel. They are also invited to register their data and travel plan in the JRC application Meeting Management System (MMS) selecting the meeting 8 th PG meeting Customs 2020 CLEN designer drugs and other illicit products. The MMS application will propose the hotels where a number of rooms have been pre-booked for the participants to this meeting. Transportation with a taxi service from the airport/train station to the hotel will also be arranged on the basis of the information of the travel plans recorded by the participants in MMS.
