schedule and preparation For each performance/game an itinerary will be published and posted both on CHARMS and in the Band Hall. Students are expected to be aware of that schedule and follow it exactly. Basic schedule: Run-through rehearsal Tailgate Uniforming Inspection Board buss/move to stadium Run Through Rehearsal Each event will involve a run-through rehearsal which will begin on the practice field. Students must be aware of! the start time for this rehearsal. Students will wear their marching shoes, black socks, dri-balance shirt, and shorts that are worn under the bibs. Guard will be in warm ups. Students are advised to bring their water jugs with them to this rehearsal. Tailgate Students will proceed to Tailgate in an orderly fashion. Students are NOT to have any part of the uniform on, other than rehearsal attire, for Tailgate. Students will need to eat quickly and pick up after themselves. Please do not encourage non-band members to hang around during Tailgate. The Boosters will only feed band members. Students must watch the time and proceed to the Uniform Room on schedule. Uniforming Students will follow the procedures and instructions of the Uniform Crew. Students will pick up their uniform from the Uniform Room and quickly dress for Inspection. For most events this will involve putting on the bibs and placing the jacket in the garment bag. Guard members will be in their warmup suits or full uniform. Inspection For inspection each student will line the hallway at the designated time. Correct socks, clean gloves, Dri-Balance shirt, polished Viper Band Shoes, clean mouthpiece, correctly taped sticks and mallets, flip folder, hat box, and all other uniform accessories. For contests, students will need to bring a change of clothes which includes their Show Shirt.

Students must have these items to be considered in uniform and eligible to proceed to the performance: Official AHS black marching shoes (Viper) Black gloves (except percussion) Black dress socks (must be at least mid-calf length; ankle socks are not acceptable) AHS Band Dri-Balance shirt Students who are not completely in uniform will not be allowed to board the bus or move to the stadium, and will be sent home. This will result in an unexcused absence from the performance. An unexcused performance absence may result dismissal from the band program. Personal Grooming Reminders No fingernail polish or make up is to be worn while in uniform. Guard will be in performance makeup. No facial hair --! gentlemen must be cleanly shaven for all performances. Remember that you are on stage and are a featured performer. More people see you up close than you imagine. Hair must be worn in a way that it is off the collar and can be tucked into shako hat for performance. A clean and neat appearance in addition to the full uniform is expected. Hair color must be natural. Any streaks or colored tips must be able to be hidden such as in a bun. No jewelry is to be worn with band/guard uniform. Expensive jewelry and other valuables should be left at home for safekeeping. Bus Conduct Students are to follow all AISD bus expectations and requirements. Further, students are expected to follow all directions from Band Staff Members, Band Chaperones, bus drivers, and AISD personnel traveling with the band. Students are to remain calm and dignified while on the bus, exiting the bus, and in the staging areas at games/contests. Transitioning When moving to warm up, contest staging areas, or the stadium, the band will be at attention so there is to be no talking, acknowledging bystanders, or falling out of rank. Transitioning is considered performing and all students are expected to maintain professional performance

etiquette. Traveling from the performance area is also considered performing and these expectations will be in place. Students will be given an official Band Dismissed from the Drum Majors after all performances. Stadium Procedures and conduct The Band will enter the stadium seating area single file and at attention. Students will be organized in a block. The band will do a short pre-game warm up in this block. The pre-game music - Fight Song, Alma Mater, and National Anthem - will also be performed in this block. A reasonable amount of order must be maintained at all times, however students are encouraged to participate in the flow of the game and with the cheerleaders. Students must pay attention to the Drum Majors/directors and be ready to play quickly. Students are to have the stand tunes numbered and in order in their flip folders. Tunes will be called up to play by number.! Reminder: Conduct while in uniform is to be calm, mature, and appropriate at all times. No profanity, inappropriate behavior, or public displays of affection will be tolerated at any time. All AHS Bands Uniform Guidelines will be in effect during the entirety of games and contests. Please refer to the Guidelines. Students may take restroom breaks when necessary, but must be in pairs and accompanied by a Band Chaperone. Conduct expectations while in uniform will be enforced at all times. Restroom breaks need to be kept to a minimum. The Band will remain in the stands as a group during all quarters. Students may not have cell phones out or in use while in uniform. Students are permitted to bring their water jugs into the stadium. Students will be given a bottle of water after each half time performance. Non-band members are not allowed in the Band s seating area at any time. Band members are not to encourage non-members to gather near the Band during the game. These spectators will be asked to leave by stadium personnel. Performance Preparation During Games During second quarter the Band will get their shakos and plumes, the Guard will collect their equipment, and all will proceed to the warm up area. The Band and Guard will do both a physical and musical warm up. Students will be considered in performance mode during this time.

Performances For both half time and contest performances, students are expected to exhibit the highest level of professionalism. You are on stage and in character. Students are performing to the crowd, but should never waive to, point to, or call out to the audience. The appropriate and professional response to the audience is to raise one s level of performance even more. Students who cannot follow these expectations or behave in any way that compromises the integrity of the AHS Band will forfeit their position. Contest participation At all times the AHS Band will compete with the highest level of integrity and honor. All members will follow all rules. UIL, TEA, AISD, AHS Band, and the contest host rules and procedures will be followed.! The Band will enter the stadium to view performances/awards as a group and in an organized manner. All students will wear their show shirt and will be considered in uniform, so all expectations for being in uniform will be in effect. Restroom break rules for games will apply during these performances. AHS Band members will demonstrate a high level of respect toward all competitors from other schools. When viewing other bands at contest AHS Band members will observe proper audience etiquette. Students will not enter or leave the seating area during a performance.
